That's true. An additional angle though that I thought about every time one of these gut-wrenching scenes played out was "okay, now the bad guys are in for an even worse beating before Reacher takes them out". Like when Franz tells Langston he's smiling because he's thinking about what the big guy is going to do to him.
I think he knew that reacher wasn’t getting a big head. But he said it anyways as a kind of comedic comment to bring some levity to the situation as he knew reacher was feeling down inside.
I'm pretty sure nearly knew that, that's why she threw him the line.

After the most recent episode, O'Donnell is kinda sus to me, but I kinda hate the trope of the close friend betraying the group lol. Is he working for the other side in the book? Or since he is the only one with a family, Langston got to his?

Really shows how much Calvin respected Reacher, even though Reacher felt like he didn’t need it, he was loyal to the 110th and cared for others, even when he didn’t show it especially during the officers club scene really showed why Calvin and the others had Reacher’s back

I love the look and feel of sadness in Reacher he didn't know he was a hero to anyone now hes feeling extreme guilt.

In the novel there was a long mail chain of out of date backup drives the guy mailed to himself. They spent a lot longer guessing passwords because they could burn through the old drives before trying to new one.
Also Reacher's response when he learns the code was his name "Ah, man, that aint fair. Now I can't let him down" Already committed to the cause, but now he knew he couldn't afford to fail.
If they were going to make this Go exactly like the novel. Then you're probably talking about over 20 hours of video content per season, and that is just not going to work

I always thought password guessing was a dumb plot point for this reason as well as many others.
Catching the bad guy few weeks later:
- WTF was the password?
- "Reacher" and a dollar sign afterwards.
My exact thought when they said password protected. Better hope dude felt like being basic with his password.

@@flyingdics1But think about it... just my humble opinion, but most folks would either use or think up a Password that's related to something connected to their personality or a life experience, not just some random alphanumerical combination like a Computer would. Pets, a memorable place or event, maybe a phrase from a book, movie, play or TV show... sometimes the least probable choice IS the right choice.
Man, the 110th sound like they would've made a perfect action prequel.
Password only seven characters, no numbers, no special characters. For a guy who wanted to be secure, he really wasn't 😆
3 guesses in 2 minutes. His password could've been 0000004 and you'd never be able to brute-force it even if you had used AI and the most powerful cryptography software. So, yeah, it's pretty secure.

(One of my best friends loved the books and hated that Tom Cruise was cast as Reacher. My friend, Richard, died before Covid and when I came across these clips they made me smile because he would have loved the current actor. Anyway, since Richard knew the books before Covid, it’s possible that the scene was written years before the current requirements were implemented. Just a thought )
@@lseward21 pretty sure the adaptation meant to fit with the present world since they are all using current techs (smartphones and all).
That makes it more secure. Any guess would include a special character, and/or a number. As well as an upper case. So even if 10k guesses. It would never be guessed. By anyone who did not know him. I test wife monthly. Skip two months she forgets. Only 5 simple items/locations.
Thought so too initially but realized that the time and input limits made security redundant, sort of. Like sure, you can brute force it in theory with today's algorithms, but in 2 minutes, good luck scrambling for the tools.

O'Donnell is an awesome character.!
I didn't think he was a good actor, but I love the subtlety in his facial expressions. You can see the pain, and responsibility, he feels over this whole thing. Simply because he saw someone do something good, and recruited him for his team. Without that, the kid would still be alive...
I think it's him realizing how his detachment from the world is affecting him and his team. He missed out on a lot of things and now he wasn't there to help them when they needed him. Especially this one who idolizes him so much.
I think Alan is doing a great job of portraying that stoic but empathetic personality of Jack Reacher

Unless you have a face unlock it's not stupidity, definitely safer than what this guy had. There's exactly 0% chance that a guy like him would have as simple a password, not unless he'd literally want them to guess it. But he'd have to rely on luck, and 110th doesn't believe in luck

Exactly. Why not use something like a`831$5Z and get Reacher suck his own dick? Even if he makes a clever decision to extract the SSD and give it to a specialist to brute force the password, an 8-character lower ASCII password would require to walk through 6 quadrillion combinations. Brute forcing it would take 100 thousand years on average if they make 1 try per nanosecond.

I ❤ the book Bad luck and trouble. I would have preferred the did a tv show with Reacher in the 110; and saved the books for the big screen. 61 hours, worth dying for are Oscar worthy material.

As a programmer, my passwords are randomly generated. Absolutely zero personal attachment, only way to guess them is to know which generator and what its alphanumeric seed was.

In reality, hard drives don't erase instantly without a magnet, they simply lose the location of the data. To erase, they'd have to find an internet connection and instantly download enough data to "type over" all the 1's and 0's. Deny the computer the ability to do that, and then go in as "admin" and search for the data you needed. tedious, but....
O'Donnell character is kinda sus to me 4 episodes in. But he's funny and entertaining, I hope it doesn't turn out he's one of the bad guys.

All password-cracking scenes are pure nonsense. Nobody just uses a word or a name. They use combinations of letters, numbers, and special characters.
With the way this was setup (2 minutes, 3 guesses) you can basically use any password you want as a bruteforcer would just instantly kill the device. Its also likely he used this password so that a person he wants to be able to access the data could still reasonably crack it. A really secure password is only necessary given infinite attempts with an infinite amount of time.
I'm not expecting anyone to hack my Gmail account, but my password is still a 10-character mix of letters, numbers, and punctuation, because that's what a password is supposed to be.
