You are correct. Going for a vacation & living in a place for a longer period are two different things. You see the true colours when you stay in a place or with certain people.
If your an adventurer and risk taker, you can do Italy on a budget by backpacking and staying at hostels for cheaper! I just can’t! We chose hotels and stayed with family on another trip!
People are racist everywhere. Unfortunately everyone is going to have a different experience. But unless it puts you in harm’s way just go and travel wherever you want
