Downplaying your life here is pointless. If they do not care enough to say thank you when you help them out and they do not care enough to check on you to see if you’re OK, they are not going to care about you “struggling” when you downplay your lifestyle here. They will only think you are a fool for struggling as much far from home as you did back home. No, no, no. You earned it, you might as well flaunt it if it brings you joy. It is your reward for having the courage to venture out of your comfort zone and go to work far away in a foreign land surrounded by strangers with only God, your brain and your hands to move you forward. Just say no. They will get over it. And if they don’t, they will save you money by getting out of your life.

If you have a bit of taste and a restrained budget, and you are house hunting in Cameroon, I swear you will feel like you are about to have a heart attack. 20 to 30 years ago, landlords would build with the tenant's comfort in mind + functionality. These days they build apartment complexes and try to cramp in as many units as possible. And so you end up with tiny toilets and tiny kitchens. And i don't understand why they always put tiny windows in the toilets. The toilet is one area of the house that needs the most ventilation. It is craaaazy!! Not to mention, it is like Cameroonian artisans have the same mindset when it comes to aesthetics. You will find the same ugly tiles in the kitchen and toilets. Ugly choice of paint colour in the other rooms, misaligned tiling, visible, cheap rubber tiles passing around in the toilets. Landlords do not care. And the prices are so high in a city like Douala. Even new budget hotels are built with the same mindset. All the hotels that cost 15,000 to 20,000 CFA per night seem to have been built by the same persons. If you want to have a very decent and functional apartment with a touch of aesthetics, you have to put down at the very least 230,000 CFA (about $400) for a two-bedroom apartment per month. Which is out of reach for most Cameroonians. We need more affordable housing built with the customer's comfort in mind. BUt you cannot count on the government to do that

You are such an inspiration Jenny ✨ 😇. Investing in one's country is totally different from investing in someone else's country. Though you will definitely need more than ten times the energy to invest in Cameroon, than you will need in a more developed world....But think about this: you are making an impact in your community; providing jobs to your people; putting food on the tables of many; building a legacy for your family and community. You are telling the women in your community that: "see, you too can do this". I mean, there's a lot of fulfillment in what you are doing. Don't ever, ever pull out 😊!

Les salles de bains/douches sont vraiment le point des appartements au cameroun. Je suis étonnée de voir que même les nouvelles constructions ne font pas d'efforts sur ce point. Nous sommes en 2024. Il suffit d'un clic sur internet pour avoir accès à des milliers de modèles

I have a four bedroom house with each bedroom with their bathroom very modern in Akwa nord if interested! ❤😊 it’s my own family home! Fridge included! I also have modern apartment in a 4 story building in Makepe. Let me know if may be in the future you may be interested!

Whew, thanks for sharing your experience. I won't complain about Nigeria again....the pricing is actually cheaper in Lagos but you get newer properties. We pay annually though

The real estate market in Cameroon is a disaster, and Douala is becoming a dump every day. NONE of the so-called apartments shown in the video looked vaguely decent. We MUST and NEED TO DO BETTER to provide affordable and decent housing to people in Cameroon

I am only 5 min in, and I am having PTSD...that apartment search in Cameroon almost had me fighting with agents, loooolllll... Some apartments are straight down nasty. Even in the so called "new constructions", the living room will be ok, but then the kitchen and the bathroom will be horrible. That's how I ended in a shoebox in Bonanjo for 2 years. I just had to manage it until I left the country again.
