    About 8 years ago I got one of these in carbine length, been my favorite ever since. As luck would have it, the Leupold scope I put on it messed up twice, so I found a spare in .270 and put 2-7 Bushnell Elite's on both of them. Been using them almost exclusively ever since. The .270 has a recoil pad and is much nicer to shoot, with the 06' I just wear a heavy denim jacket at the range. Neither one is terribly picky about loads, and both will shoot right around 1" groups with favored ammo.

    Enjoyed your video. I own a Husqvarna rifle just like yours had it for over 40 years never let me down It has Mauser claw extractor. Mine mine is chambered in 30 Ott six. You need to get a little 2 to 7 Leopold compact scope to put on it. It will shoot half inch groups at 100 yards. Mine does with 150 grain. It’s very lightweight to carry. Take care. God bless every day above. Ground is a good day.

    Really good, i've been intrigued by these, they are for sale commonly in my parts. Classic lines and if you were decent with reshaping and finishing you could make that thing look even better. Nothing beats a Mauser action, eh? Never been improved upon for rifle out there going through its paces in real world scenarios. Nicely done vid, subscribed. Love the the delivery, the atmosphere, cicadas as background. Your southern cicadas sound so much nicer than the northern ones i grew up with which sounded apocalyptic. ;)

    Beautiful rifle! Nothing like a classic Mauser. I have a Mauser action Mannlicher-Schoenaeur 1908 model carbine. 20” barrel, double set-triggers, full stock, iron sight’s adjustable for elevation, can be drift-punched for windage .
    It has a detachable rotary magazine that holds 6 rounds of 30-‘06. When the rear trigger is “set” the front trigger has a 8 oz pull. Loaded, the rifle weighs 6 pounds
    All that is to say that masterpiece has the hardest kick of almost any rifle I’ve fired.
    I have a Merkel 140A double rifle in .416 Rigby that doesn’t kick as hard.

      The M-S 1908 is not a Mauser action. It is a fine bolt action but not a Mauser design. The M-S has a split rear bridge. It's one of the slickest bolt action made but not a Mauser.

  • @MikeSiemens88
    @MikeSiemens88 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Fine piece of hardware. I have 2 Mauser action rifles, a vintage FN in 30-06 & a Zastava in .270. The FN is heavier than your Swede at 9 lbs but it bruises my skinny shoulder too after a few rounds at the range. It has the 'wing' safety on the bolt vs the slider beside the action. Didn't get a good look at your iron sights but my FN has a fixed 100 yd sight with flip up leaves for 200 & 300. It's scoped with a period correct Weaver KV on a flip away Pachmayr mount so I can use either the iron sights or scope.
    The .270 is newer with the side safety, also very smooth action but not quite the overall quality of the FN. The rear iron sight on it flips up & is adjustable but I have it scoped so not sure how it shoots with irons. Very accurate with the scope.
    A tip for Mauser actions you may not be aware of. The action cocks on opening. If you hold the trigger while closing the action it will close in the 'fired' position relieving spring tension. Although it shouldn't fire a round that way, best to do this with an empty chamber.
    Did I mention I have a Browning BLR in 30-06?? Being a lever guy I thought you might appreciate that. It kicks pretty good too weighing in at just over 8 lbs.... ;)

    • @leverBoyluke
      @leverBoyluke  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you friend! I really like how you have your FN setup, I wish this one had some adjustable windage sights on it. Oh thank you for that information, I was very curious if cocked on open or closing. Love that Browning! They make some excellent quality lever guns.

    • @MikeSiemens88
      @MikeSiemens88 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@leverBoyluke I really like the BLR. Unique lever action in that the trigger moves with the lever. Some complain about a heavy trigger, perhaps a result of this design but I find it a non-issue. And it allows the use of a normal trigger guard vs a cable to lock the lever. Box magazine makes it quick & easy to change up ammo, I purchased a couple spares. ;)

    • @MikeSiemens88
      @MikeSiemens88 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@leverBoyluke I had to correct my original comment as I incorrectly said the action cocks on closing & that is wrong. It cocks on opening. The info on holding the trigger while closing does still relieve firing pin tension but I should stress to do this only with an empty chamber.

    I do like the weight and balance of this rifle. Mine, also in '06, like yours is utterly brutal in the recoil department, and my stock had quite a few "character marks", AKA scratches on both the wood and the metal. Traded it at a gun show for a mint No4 Mk2 British Enfield. Am thinking to build one in something more sedate, such as 6.5x55 on an quite clean, but lonely, M98 G.I. action.

  • @redmorse4321
    @redmorse4321 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had one of these. They really kick you hard. I could only do 40 rounds through mine before it was too much. Standing up is a lot better.
    Id recommended bedding the rear tang and around the recoil lug, and free float the barrel. It really makes a difference. Stops the stock from cracking as well which is common on these. Mine shot very tight groups after that.
    You might also try a different stock to help the recoil. They fit into a large ring m98 stock, but will require bedding around the front receiver ring for a proper fit as the 1640 is a small ring 98.
    The trigger sucks too. You can have a gunsmith work it over or drop a timney adjustable in. The one for the mauser 98 fits and works good but needs some wood taken out of the stock to fit.
