Just received this lens about a month ago and love it. Paired with a X-T50 and has produced excellent images. Excited to use on an upcoming Europe trip as my walk around lens.
This lens paired with the XT50 and its IBIS is a great shout! It'll serve you more than well I'm sure around Europe :))
It’s a good lens for sure. I use it pretty much just in single shooting mode rather than continuous, and it definitely increases my keepers.
@@HaiTomVlog Yeah I’d be the same, most using AF-S, it definitely helps with the photo auto focusing for sure!
The voigtländer 40mm 1.2 is like a Fujifilm 27mm 0.8 in terms of depth of field. Simply amazing
@@stayuntilforever I’d say it’s lovely to have that depth of field, it a a big lens though right?
@ronan_duff it's my smallest fullframe lens. Manual focus only. But it's built like a tank and feels like a Leica. If Leica would have done a similar lens the price would be 10 times the price
@ ohhh apologies I was thinking of a completely different lens, the Viltrox 40mm 1.2 - my bad!
@ I’ll have a look into this lens for sure, even the Voigtlander 40mm f2 would really intrigue me.
One of my favourites.
Its a great optic, becoming one of my favourites too.
Stellar photo at 4:18!
@@philippfulg thanks very much Phillip, very nice of you to say!
One of favourite lenses and I own over 15 lenses. I sold my X100V because this lens on my Xpro3 is that good. Wonderful travel lens.
I'd love to give an XPro3 a go someday, they'd make a lovely combination! Thanks for watching!
I would say there are no bad lenses today but I do not agree with the video title: the 27mm f/2.8 WR is not definitely the lens everybody wants. I find it strange actually that in the last few days that’s not the first video of TH-camrs sort of promoting this lens and when this lens came out the reviews were pretty severe about it. Lack of sharpness and noisy focus, expensive and hard to find. To the point that cheaper options such as TTArtisan were suggested as a good option. Personally, I’m not a fan of the aperture f/2.8 for apsc if there are not other selling points. Rather keep any Fujicron f/2.0 and those behave nice, are light and compact (and cheaper at least in 2nd hand). My opinion and choices: for primes, f/1.4 minimum, for zooms f/2.8 (sacrificing IQ). When I want to play around with lightweight primes, I use the TTArtisan 25mm f/2.0 but I’m using manual focus and I consider it a cheap and artistic lens as probably I would consider this Fujifilm 27mm f/2.8 but for me does not justifies de price. Maybe I respect if somebody wants a weather sealed pancake but again, from what I’ve seen on my research about this lens, the glass is not on par with the price and the high ISOs at f/2.8 on low light also do not help getting images that would impress me to the point of leaving other better lenses in my bag. I go out lightweight on my Xt5 or xpro3 with the Fujicron 23mmf2 on primes, I go out heavyweight uwith the Fujifilm 18mmf1.4 wr or Viltrox 27mmj f/1.2, I travel with the Tamron 17-70 f/2.8 and Fujifilm 70-300 but I change to primes when light goes away so I’m used to f/2.8 to the point of not buying any lens with this aperture expecting “versatility” when for daylight usage there are certainly lenses that are IMO better options.
The primary reason I bought a Fujifilm camera was to gain access to the great, small, light, Fujifilm f/2 lenses (and I group f/2.8 in with them).
@@homecareful it’s very much a selling point of Fuji gear for sure, pack such a punch in a small package!
Hey Ronan! Thanks for the info! I really liked the video and hope to buy this lens once I have some extra money, hehe. I wanted to ask, which 1/8 Black Pro-Mist filter do you use? I’m new to photography, and there are so many brands for this filter that I’m not sure which one to choose.
@@LeandroChaman hi Leandro, thanks for watching and the kind words!
Tiffen make the “industry standard” BPM filters, but they’re expensive enough. I’ve been using K&F filters as they’re a good but cheaper and still very good. If you want to try out and see if you like the effect then maybe have a look at their options, I’ve not compared the two brands but I’m happy with the K&F ones so far!
I love using the 27mm f2.8 together with 18mm f2, both are really nice for everyday carry I usually have one on the camera and the other in my backpack. If I'm in the city centre with more action I go wider and if I notice I need a bit more reach I switch to the 27mm f2.8. I am shooting both lenses stopped down to around f8, I like how both have a similar vibe but are definitely not the same.
@@CrnaInBela I’ve heard good things about the 18mm, and I’d love to give it a go! Aside from the autofocus, I like the size, width and the fact it’s f2 as well sounds great. Sounds like a great minimal street kit you’ve got there!
Hey Ronan, does this lens make sense if the 23mm and 35mm are owned already, do you think ?
@@mc5869 hi MC, if you’re happy with both of these lenses already, then you probably don’t need this lens.
If you find that 23mm is always slightly too wide and the 35mm is always slightly too tight then this could be answer, and you could have just one lens instead of both!
Honestly you’ve probably got all your bases covered with those two lenses anyway, but it’s a preference thing!
@@ronan_duff I hear ya ! It was more for its compact size but the 23/35 are small enough I guess with the caps removed.
@ yeah the compact size is really great, for me it’s worth it having it live in a small bag and traveling so much but for most the 23mm is probably small enough I’d imagine!
It's more about the form factor and the image character.
@@houghwhite411 I love the size of the 27mm. Not sure about the 40mm focal length, for me, as I have 35mm and 50mm covered with the Fujicrons.
I love this lens for photography, picked it up in Singapore for half the price it goes for in the UK. As for video, this is so true, I used it in my last youtube video and you can totally see the hunting, couldn't be bothered to reshoot it tho, haha. But for some reasons, I had enough of it and I want to sell it and pick up the original 35mm f1.4... decisions, decisions
@@marlenecaptures I hadn’t even thought of to look for some lenses out in Singapore.. great shout!
Fully understand not wanting to reshoot.. I’ve been curious about the 35mm 1.4 too not gonna lie, heard great things about the character + again it’s so small!
@ wow Singapore is HEAVEN for second hand stuffs, even cheaper than Japan. The Leica store there has sales as well every year in April around Easter, I mean it’s still expensive tho but quite rare.
@ this is great to know, thanks Marlene. Probably best for my wallet I didn’t know at the time lol
@@ronan_duff 🤣
Would you recommend this for hiking-photography? I have a Fujifilm X-T4 camera with a 16-80mm lens, but I’m looking for a lens that is much lighter and more compact
@@HanneBakkenWatne hey! Yes absolutely I would, lightweight, sharp, weather resistant - it’s a solid hiking lens. I’ve a video from Achill Island where I take it hiking/exploring in all weathers and it worked a treat.
Hope that helps!
What is the make of your filter and size please? Thanks 😊
@@Jack44297 it’s a K&F filter and the filter thread on this lens is 39mm I believe!
@ thanks a ton 👍
The TT Artisans 27mm f2.8 AF is about 90% of the Fuji at fraction of the cost
I'd love to try the TT Artisan copy for sure, have you tried them side-by-side? Seems that they're fairly soft wide open, but like you said the value for money is phenomenal.
@ronan_duff I don't have both of them to compare but I have looked at comparison videos. The TT does have a definite vignette at wide appentures but it's easy to remove in post. It also tends to flare when shot into direct light. Apart from those two things it is definitely the match for the Fujifilm 27mm. I think it's probably a bit shaper.
I would take the TTArtisans over this, quieter focusing, more "artistic," a bit worse optically, but at 1/3 lf a price.
It's truly a steal at that price - I'd love to try it and see the difference. Like you said, not all imperfections optically are bad!
Wish they made it in silver 😮
@@nevvanclarke9225 I’m really surprised they don’t!
The fujicrons for similar price outperform this pancake by a mile. They only lose in terms of form factor. And the minimum focus distance of the 27mm is so long it gets annoying.
@@ayim01 I wouldn’t disagree, the fujichrons are definitely better optically, for sure. But yeah the small size is for sure the selling point of this!
Naahhh, the 35mm 1.4 is much better
@@noyo1444 apparently a common opinion, I’ve got to try it out someday!
Don’t worry. I don’t want it. Got a better lens, Nikkor 24mm f1.7
@@Cracker9876 have you adapted this or is this just a small Nikkor lens??
I got a better lens to Leica 28mm ❤
I don’t want one.
@@streetwalkerphoto fair enough.
