For someone like me that split my time btw Queensland and Kl, there are +/- in both countries. Granted for comfy day 2 day life routine,malaysia is better.
However medical assistance is slightly lower standard (compared to aus, not taking cost into consideration, public health care system).
Malaysia also is not a migration country unlike aus.
Human right and maturity of politicians and its policies are much left to be desired.
And Malaysia is perhaps the only country that practising negative apartheid policy....
There are more advantages and monetary benefits awarded to majority race than the minority.😮

@@themothfamily Malay Negative Apartheid Policy = Government granted Politics Party and Vernacular School for Chinese and Indian. At the end, most of them just living with their own group, build un permission temple and not assimilate with the majority population. Most of them also not fluent speaking in our National Language (Bahasa Melayu). I bet this is not happen in other world even Singapore.

After you travel to other countries, and you arrive KL to compare, you will notice KL is the best place in the world. It just feels right and comfy.

@@themothfamily it is fun, my best friend is Indian, i am Malay, my next door neighbour is Chinese, during our Eid, everyone come, when Deepavali, we go to my Indian friend house, eat Tosai, when Chinese New year we celebrate with them, watch lion dance, diversity make unity and we are like one big family😁🇲🇾♥️
There is not many countries in the world where that happens
We are not 'honking culture' country...its considered rude here to honking without no reason...we just use it for emergency case...most tourist also notice this when they travel in other South East Asian countries...

I'm Malaysian currently working in Sydney. To be honest :
Australia = Better job opportunities, Better education system
Malaysia = Multicultural living, World Halal Hub, Cheap healthcare system, Better transportation system

On safety, just because no one touched your luggages at the arcade, does not mean it cannot happen. Crime is related to opportunity we give to criminals. I do agree places with cctvs tend to be better than a lonely street with no lights (do not take risk)

Want to try different foods in KL?
1. Malay food - Kampung Bharu
2. Chinese - Chinatown
3. Indian - Brickfields
Then, get out of KL and head to Ipoh, Penang to the north. Spend sometime in Sabah too.
Go hiking, swimming, stroll by the beach and in between.... eat. Eat, chat, sleep and repeat.
Bring with u an umbrella and a big bottle of water. It either rains or it's hot.
Have an enjoyable and safe holidays. If u ever in need of help, chat with a Malaysian.

If you met a person couldn't speak English, very likely they are non- Malaysians. We have a lot of foreign workers minding the streets and cleaning garbage and toilets , construction laborers, non-governmental counters etc. Basically the unskilled manual workers. Many came from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Philippines. One thing so obvious are the Security guards. Nearly 100% of them are foreign. You find they not able to speak English well.

Malaysia as a whole has the 2nd best english proficiency in Asia now imagine on a city level for KL. Probably 1st in Asia or in worst case, 2nd.

Are you sure they can speak english? The present generation especially those from the majority cannot speak. Maybe know certain words such durian,bas, ketchup,computer etc.

We find honking offensive when near schools, places of worship, hospitals and business centres...we only honk when there's an actual obstruction on the road, a matter of life or death .

Love your commentary on MY! Most are spot-on! :) Yes, we are a diverse, friendly, humble and patriotic people. We don't claim to be the best and there are still many areas for improvement. The politicians here are just like elsewhere - very often using race/religion/culture topics to gain support for their own agenda and raise tension between the diverse races. However, we're like sibbling - we may squabble at times but we'd usually unite against 'external' threats. I just hope that as we progress and become more developed and prosperous, we Malaysians will stay grounded, tolerant and stick to our collectivistic culture instead of becoming very individualistic.

I think the reason the walkway/roads crack is mostly because it rains heavily down here. You'll notice after rainy season, there will be potholes everywhere. No matter what the cause, it will cause damage on our wheels.

1. Whilst in general it is safe to leave your luggage around careful with your computer/cameras bags. Especially where's its easy getaway with motobikes 2. Malaysia's property is very highly driven by property development so malls, shophouses and accomodation. 3. Local food breakfast places opens early but the mid range and high end opens late cause of low demand for early food due to the prices. However, certain office building has the kind of breakfast you want catering for the the high level executives.

You are absolutely right about the shopping centers and shopping malls. They are everywhere, so many of them compared to Australia, so much so when I went to Melbourne, I find it boring by comparison. Another attraction is the shopping malls are not just for shopping but for entertainment and great food places as well. The variety of food, restaurants and prices are very appealing.
Definitely depends on location. Some places you can have breakfast as early as 6 am. Pre pandemic there were many 24/7 food places

@@themothfamily yeah we lost a lot of local business during the pandemic and some still cutting their operation hours including restaurants, shops and factories. My buzzing small town is quite quieter these days after 9pm compared to before the pandemic where there's a lot of 24/7 or diners that opened till 3am 😅

as a malaysian, i would say : KL is rather (very! actually~ 😆) family friendly. and, malaysia would be a boring destination for party people. but thailand is just a short flight away..😁but when you are tired of partying and the noises in other SEA countries, come to Malaysia to have a bit of tranquility and some peace of mind.
btw, i would not say that KL/Malaysia is a safe country where you can leave your belongings without supervision. you are lucky this time round. 😁

There are research/statistics data available online. But if you still want to ask for my personal encounters, then.... I have never seen any violent crime happened around me since... day 1? 😁🤭
Ok, on a more serious note, these crimes do make it to the news on and off, some happened between our beloved foreign workers, but I would say it is still not as often as some of our neighbouring countries'.
Breakfast places open at 6 a.m (or earlier) because people start their shifts at 7 a.m or 8 a.m. Mostly small tables on pavements or stalls or hawkers at certain food courts. Depends on the neighborhood and the proximity to offices & factories. They close for the day around 10 a.m or 11 a.m 🌅 It's hard for non locals to understand this 'system'. The small operators have no presence beyond their operating hours (no signage, no footprint, no food truck) 😂

Hi Jimmy, Pauline.. Just stumbled into this video. Glad you're having a good time here. If you have the time, explore the islands in the east coast and as well some of the other states for more local/rural vibe. The food there are worth trying. Also for safety sake, be wary of your surroundings on the road especially around motorbikes. We used to have high level of snatch theft on bikes., but now its rare. But, do keep on being alert.

I'm not a morning person but I do know there are shops open for early breakfast too (7-8am onwards).
Also there's side stalls that's open to cater for workers to pack some breakfast as well on their way to office.
We have ended up eating breakfast at home

Did you know that the world's largest Milo manufacturing plant is in Malaysia? Lol I know right. Oh you definitely gotta try the milo here..we love milo (psst it's better than yours aussies hehe) It's literally everywhere. Also, available in most fast food restaurants like McDonald's. Or we called it Mekdi/mcd. Have fun.

Disabled friendly buildings are work in progress. Old heritage buildings are not included. However, I can see our mrt, lrt stations are reasonable as they have lifts. Some newer shoplots in towns do have ramps.

Some people eat breakfast at home like me, thus going to a stall to eat breakfast so early is not common. So owners may not be able to justify the cost if they open 8am and close at 9pm. If they open at 11am to prepare for lunch crowd and ends at 12am or 11.30pm, those who wants supper can buy them. Those working graveyard shift at the port or at the hospital can grab a bite too. I know many tourists especially in islands like tioman and langkawi do complaint they cannot eat in the morning as shops are not open. It depends on locations too if they want to open early. Malaysians may drive past a nasi lemak stall at the roadside to take away and eat at the office too.

ever since my mother started having to move around in a wheelchair, I really have to say Malaysia needs a lot of improvement in this aspect to make things easier for the disabled. I was just recently in Hatyai and one of the first things I noticed was that the sidewalks pretty much all have ramps. you'll hardly see that in KL, let alone other smaller towns in Malaysia. heck, it's even hard for able-bodied people to move around in the city safely, what with having to manoeuvre around traffic and finding your own pathways because there wasn't any pedestrian path.
So sorry to hear about the difficulties moving around with your mum :(. I believe that freedom of movement for all should be a right, not a privilege
The best thing about KL is it is cheap. Cheap food n accommodation. Everybody can travel to KL which is also a nice modern city.

1. As you both mentioned, KL is much more than KLCC, so my advice to any Visitor coming to KL for the 1st time is, get away from the tourist traps of KL city, get out into the suburbs, where food is cheaper and as tasty if not better!
2. Penang is a good place to visit if you are looking for a combo of good food and if you want to be near beaches, Batu Ferringhi is a good place to stay. East Coast the beaches are probably better but communication in English will be a bit of a challenge. Down south, Johor Baru is a good place to be if you wish to pop over to Singapore for a Day trip cause Singapore is just over the Causeway from JB. For Pristine blue water Beaches, Sabah is a good destination.
3. Genting Highlands is a place that I would suggest you take your family to, you'll be surprise by what they have up there

There are actually plenty of food stalls or restaurants open early in the morning even as early as 7am in the morning. Some restaurants such as dim sum restaurants and road side stalls that cater to the working crowd would be open for business already. Not sure where you went, by around 7.30am - 8am, most Chinese coffee shops (non-air-conditioning shops with individual stalls) would also be opened for business. There are also 24 hours mamak restaurants. Do look around a little more or at some other places, you might find them.

I dont really trust youtuber as their view might be exaggerated a bit. However i remember back in 2012-2014 where social media is still a baby, I witness an elderly aussie guy with his daughter at jaya grocer subang jaya talking to the staff how beautiful and nice malaysia is and how lucky we are being a malaysian etc.(Its done off the camera btw). So to me malaysia isnt all that bad btw.

Thank you for the most honest comments. Malaysia do have some shortcomings when it comes to disabled friendly (talking from experience having disabled relatives). In Kuala Lumpur, it paints a different picture (I think many have great comments on their very own Vlogs) but outside of the metro, it's a totally different story - or rather the painful truth.
We do have disabled parking - usually at important establishments like banks or department stores or government offices - unfortunately you may see that "non-disabled" drivers parking at "disabled parking space". (rarely the enforcement officers are nearby) True, that most pedestrian paths and roads are not disabled friendly - the only way is to drive or to ensure their seatings in public transport are secured. The typical excuses when asked why did they blatantly parked at the disabled parking space - "I'm on some urgent matters to settle", "I've put the hazard light on" and all other crappy things. (I've seen disabled drivers road-bullied as well - like impatient drivers honking them)
On the other hand, generally speaking, most Malaysians respects the disabled, for example, if you have to park near to shops or grocery stores (outside KL) or even by the roadside - where the zone was not meant for the disabled, the vehicles will stop or try to maneuver in the safest way possible in order not to disturb disabled alighting from the vehicle or public transport. They will even stop to let the disabled cross the road - even sometimes park by the roadside, stopping the traffic to help them. (I know as I have experienced the kindness (and some ugly parts) of Malaysian motorists too many times when ferrying disabled relatives or elderly)
Again, I think the authorities should seriously look into this matter and give more "rooms" for the disabled in future town plannings. And I sure hope that this video is an eye opener.

Cities in Malaysia would be best if sidewalks were prioritized. Unfortunately the authorities often ignore it and instead build more roads which result in worse congestion and quite difficult to walk.

Actually there are few breakfast place open as early as 8am.. Look for LOKL Coffee and Kafe Kleptokrat. You can also try few nice cafe at Empire Subang also open as early as 8am like Jibby & Co and Lisette's Cafe. Hope it helps..

It is my husband in our family case. To buy one bag for him we go to all malls from Kulai to JB but end up buy at JPO in Kulai after 2 days of searching. 🤦🏻♀️
