Fabulous! Many many thanks for this. Loved this film back in the days when it was aired frequently on TV. As I matured I came to see the inaccuracies etc. but still now as an old man, I'm choked up by those same sentimental emotions of my youth.
I'm sorry, but at 42:40 that scene is just sick, like not cool. Tho the rest of the movie is solid acting and music and overall, it is a film of its times.
That's alot of blackface in 90 minutes. Most disturbing are the two scenes of Al Jolsen in his dressing room where he doesn't bother to remove the blackface after the show.
Would watching him take off the blackface help to un-disturb you? I don't get why you even watched the movie knowing that Jolson sang in blackface in almost all of his movies ( that's what's even more disturbing)!!
It's honestly hard to enjoy those segments, I view the blackface as a novel unfortunate relic of a bygone era, that should be remembered and understood but not forgiven.
@@guystudios I disagree, Blackface was the reason behind why every single African-American is allowed to be in the entertainment industry and also show business, without Al Jolson and minstrels, the world would still be segregated. No way were Jolson and the other blackface performers racist, in-fact, the reason why they painted their face black is because they wanted to entertain white audiences by singing African-American music and that way they let them get involved with the business. And fun fact: Al Jolson was good friends two black musicians who were kicked out from a restaurant because of the color of their skin which made Jolson so pissed off that he threatened whoever tries to kick them again, he’ll punch them in the nose! Which made a lot of black Americans praise him and he even fought for the civil rights and stuff! That’s why without him, this world would’ve been prejudiced.

The funeral scene hit me in the feels.
Me toooo
This film may star Don Ameche, but as always, Al Jolson steals the show!
This film made me want to be a professional tambourine player.
Thanks for the part 2
Great film
15:40 I'm not a musician or anything but they don't look like they know how to play 😄
This is Gwen Berry's favorite movie.
What’s the name of the song that starts at 36:11?
Check out duet with Elvis Presley, Criterion to get Jolson movies on blu ray and www.jolson.org

I understand but it's part of history and it's not meant to be racist! it's just acting!
You can call it racist but it is history. I think it is important to show something that makes you cringe.
You either learn from it, or run from it.
