It's Friday evening. I just opened a bottle of wine for me and my husband. And I just found this. So nice.

The drummer is really swinging. The sound of the ride cymbal is fantastic. Just a beautiful groove!

A talented, experienced jazz guitarist hooked up with one of the great pianists. Eddie says they recorded this in 6 hours! He is at the peak of his game throughout. So glad we have this.

They did a gig that I caught at Fat Cat Billiards in NY. They did two sets. I can't remember if they had one night or two (Hank had a week with different guests added to the trio). So I guess that was the rehearsal.

This evening I started off listening to reggae and having a joint. Followed by some underground 90s hip hop. Then this popped up on the side and I clicked it. Glad I did, absolutely loving this.
To anyone who might happen to read this, check out some jazz infused hip hop instrumentals. You might be pleasantly surprised.

This was recorded in 2003, not released until 2006. Outstanding. Eddie Diehl is a new name to me, as of last night. I came across a mention of him on a jazz guitar forum where I was looking for more info re: another lesser-known guitarist, Sam Brown. I then looked into Eddie, and watched the film about him. Very interesting that his main career was as a guitar repairman.

Now I have listened to this recording twice. What bugs me is the sound production. The huge fakey EQ on the bass & drums masks the beautiful natural sound of the guitar & piano. What is the point of that? This was not meant to be a release for a dance club, was it??? Great music though. My comment to sound "engineers" doing jazz recordings: Keep the sound real, as if the instruments were right there in a room where you are sitting. That is THE way to do it. Don't boost bass & treble etc. to cater to dance club fans.

@@charlesduckettjr.800 If you have the cd (I do) you'll see that the record was recorded live analog to 2 track and produced by the bassist, John Webber. I think you are way off in your assessment of the sound of the recording. It's very natural. Maybe you like your bass to be felt, not heard. This recording does sound like a club to me, a jazz club. John Webber is an exacting bassist of the highest caliber and wanted it to sound as it is. I think that makes it right.

Eddie Diehl was indeed a brilliant 50+ year master luthier and master jazz guitarist. he lived in my hometown for decades and was living there when he passed. there will never be another like him.

@@lgoler I agree with Charles that bass has a tad over boost in the recording that can make it fuzzy especially if the sound reproduction system adds some bass boost too, which is comon nowadays.

imho you are wrong - I just looked at it in audacity and the two stereo tracks are very similar but definitely not equal, and that is what my ears tell me as well. BTW, Blue Born channel has this marvel as well and it sounds *exactly* the same.

@@wehe64 No, I'm not wrong. This album can be sampled elsewhere in stereo on other sites. This is the third reply I've posted to you here, but they all got bumped off by YT because I provided links. I think what happened is that a mono version of this album is what was made available for YT posters. So now, let's this if this reply gets posted.
