Fun facts from a drummer. Those 3 notes that Alec had to play repeatedly from 6:02 was actually something that's there in a majority of the song, but it's not transcribed in the first half. Not only that, but while the drummer does that independently with his right hand alone, he also has to solo with his left hand around the kit. While that's already tough, he ALSO has to maintain the kick with his right foot in a constant pace. Reaching the level of independence amongst your 4 limbs is fucking godly, and it's why the piece actually sounds so fucking sick to all the drummers out there. That, and also the fucking speed of that solo is beastly. Crazy job on hitting that roll from 8:41 too man, for a guy who isn't a drummer, that's some insane stick control.

As a percussionist my whole life, I gotta give you props. This song took me a year to learn for jazz band in college. Awesome work. I know this is three years ago now, but still super impressed.
Yo I'm a sophomore in highschool and I've been playing the drum set for maybe a week (I saved up enough money just now) and I was wondering if you have any advice on how I could progress to maybe this level one day?
@@loginprinter508 honetly, just practice as much as you can. In high school I was playing every day nearly as often as I could. I eventually even went and bought rubber silencer pads for my cymbals and drums so I could play alter at night too. I also listened to a lot of drummers whose play styles I liked. Buddy Rich was my biggest idol and inspiration when it came to how I wanted to play. I would watch his fills, how he set up his set, how he held his sticks, and I'd try to not just mimic what he did, but let it influence my style and how I played and thought about how I would interpret the music on the sheet. I know that probably wasn't what you were looking for, but I hope it still helps in some way. Good luck on your journey!!
@@heavyq Nah your advice is completely valid lol. Its just that for me at least I started drumming because i watched the movie Whiplash when I was little and I just really like alt and nu metal music. So i don't really have an idol. "This song just isn't FC-able." But Alec, just imagine. Imagine.... the nerves. (just kidding everyone. That's a brutal drum track. These jazz drums put some of the tech-death on my playlist to shame)
6:17 to 6:30 is technically possible, the issue is is that a lot of it is double-strokes, meaning that youd have to rebound each one, and likely have only one hand on the green pad the entire time playing very fast swing. One gigantic issue with the chart though is that I think it tries too accurately to chart the literal performance including minor variations in a pattern that wouldn't exist in real sheet music/drum transcriptions. If this were recharted a bit it would be much more realistic and feasible. As of now, it is possible but overkill af
it would also probably helped if he played it on something that was more like a cymbal and in a cymbal position. Those triple strokes are a lot harder the way he has the drums set up.
@Michael Persico dude swing patterns would still be charted in sheet music as dotted notes or triplets (depending on if triplets are used) I hate charts like this anyway because for rhythm games swing rarely works unless you have impeccable timing plus these jazz drum solos disguised as a song are annoying as fuck to learn anyway even on a real kit
Coming from a jazz performance major(drums obviously) those are definitely not double strokes lol i think theyre triple strokes or something, hard to tell with the pads lol
This reminds me so much of DDR. You pick a slightly harder song than usual, but half way through, you get too tired and you're out of breath...but you step when you can and try to get back into it cause you don't want to fail, but you already lost your groove and want to give up 😂
