    Thank you for this excellent review of a product that I will need to replace as well. I also am a fan of Bosch appliances and have had good results with all of the. Now it is time to update the hob and oven. Reading the Bosch website info makes all the products so alluring and the more money you spend the better the appliance sounds. This video and especially the follow-up are just so objective and provided all the information that I needed. Bosch is extremely costly here where I live and spending that amount of money on the oven that has some minor flaws, that might turn into major issues after the warranty has expired, is a big NO NO. Also love your accent, that if I have to guess is from the Midlands.

    I just had a new kitchen fitted and have the steam version of this oven. Have only just started to use it but first impressions are it's pretty amazing. Cant believe how cool it is on the outside. Haven't baked with it yet, used the steam function of home connect but from what I have seen it's really good. The steam version I have has rails on top and bottom and does have lights all the way down each side.

    • @djalil_YT
      @djalil_YT 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! I have ordered the version without steam and I have a few weeks to consider upgrading before delivery. The price difference is pretty steep for just steam and the rails. Is the steam function useful for you?

      @@djalil_YT I've never used the steam function. As an oven though it's great, everything comes out perfect. Only gripe is the dial, sometomes you need to take it off / on to keep it moving. It's only magnets though.

    Really informative review. The difference in temperature option for pizza is because what temperature you want actually depends on how thick your dough is and how much toppings you have on the pizza. To be able to adjust the temperature is great.

It's helped me to decide to go ahead and purchase it - although I think I will upgrade to steam one - as I looked and the lights are indeed on the side. Fantastic video (and the subsequent ones). I agree with others; there should be more videos like this for home appliances. I'm coming from the world of PCs, where there are thorough reviews and benchmarks for any modern hardware on the market; why does something like this not exist for home appliances? So thank you!
    And one question regarding controls: I'm split between this model and the one with only the circle in the middle and the screen inside, but the controls on the sides are single-touch buttons instead of a screen (e.g., model HBG675BB1). Did you have the chance/consider one of those, and have any experience with that kind of control? This wide (actually 3 part) touchscreen looks fancy and self-explanatory but seeing the issues you had with it, I'm wondering if, in day-to-day usage, the models with fixed touch buttons could be easier to use.

      Hi, I have found that if i really make sure the touch screen is as clean and grease free as possible, it works ok, I polish it with window cleaner and that seems to get it sparkling and working. However i still have issues sometimes even after cleaning, I think mine maybe slightly faulty?
      If cleaning does not solve your problem it sounds more serious, especially if the whole side has failed? When did you get it, Bosch should come and fix it if you contact them? I am tempted to get the to look at mine while it’s still under warranty.

    Thank you very much for the great review. I have just bought one and I read in the instructions that it is not possible to use silicone molds because it can damage the sensors. Do you have any information about that ? For me it's a pity for a such expensive oven !

    • @everythingandthekitchensink

      Hi yes this is correct, you should not use any silicon bakeware. Not sure exactly why, maybe it releases something that can Damage the moisture sensors ?
      Or perhaps it’s just because silicon cookware reacts differently to heat and means the auto programs won’t fully cook correctly?

      Hi, thanks. Siemens, Neff and Bosch are the same company and I have noticed their dishwashers are very similar (especially Bosch/Siemens). The ovens have similar technology but are more different than the other items. The Siemens brand tend to go for the more techie side, Bosch the middle ground and Neff the most practical and 'basic' of the brands. The top end Siemens ovens have full touch screens and not moving parts like the Bosch one I have.

    Thanks I bought one recently. I’m finding it’s not easy to use to technical for me. How do you know when the oven has reached the temperature you set? I’ve also bumped the control panel unknowingly when cooking on the cooktop and changed the setting.

    • @everythingandthekitchensink
      @everythingandthekitchensink  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I find its always best to turn on 'fast preheat', that way you hear a PING when its reached temperature. Otherwise, if you look inside the circle screen you will see red line that gradually increases until the oven has reached the set temp - ideally they should have a message on screen saying 'preheating' like other ovens I have seen, but on well, maybe with a software upgrade?
      You could always turn on the child lock once you have setup the cooking programme - if you think in the future there is a risk of you bumping the screen?

    Informative video, thanks for sharing. Question; the smart cook features are great if you are only cooking a singular dish, but say you want to start cooking your meat, add the roast vegetables and then finally your yorkshires, I assume you have to resume back to conventional settings such as 4D? I have probably answered my own question but keen to learn how you manage a similar situation. Thanks

    • @everythingandthekitchensink
      @everythingandthekitchensink  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I had the same thought as you before I brought the oven - the solution would be to get two! (I wish I had the space, and money!)
      I have only cooked a few things using the assist feature - fresh lasagna, pizza, cake, oven chips and roast chicken with meat probe - all turned out perfectly but they were all cooked individually.
      What I tend to do with a roast is use 4D hot air and cook it all together, remove the meat to rest and blast the heat higher to finish off roast potatoes - only cooked premade Yorkshires, I think it might be more difficult with the whole 'not opening the oven' bit if doing homemade Yorkshires. This method works but does not use any of the special features of the oven of course.
      I think if you were lucky enough to have two ovens you could easily use one for the assist feature to cook the meat and the other to do everything else using 4D hot air.
      Not tried it yet, but the assist feature to roast a top rump beef joint uses 4D hot air anyway and takes well over an hour - so technically you could bung in the roast potatoes around the joint and just blast it hotter at the end while the meat is resting to crisp up.
      THANKS FOR THE QUESTION :-)

    Hi there, great review, thanks for the details. Quick question for you now that you've lived with the oven for a while, how highly do you value the Bosch Assist/Perfect Bake/Perfect Roast features? The reason for asking is I'm deciding between this oven and an identical model with the exception of those features. I'm tempted by this one but am wary that I may be buying gadgets for the sake of it that I may not really use after I get over the novelty :)

    • @everythingandthekitchensink
      @everythingandthekitchensink  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      HI! I try and use the assist functions where I can, however I don't use them as much as I thought I would. Not because they are no good, but just because I tend to cook more than one thing at once and it can be difficult to cook with assist at the same time as something else. I would trust perfect bake, but I am regular baker so tend to use the oven as a normal oven. The meat probe is excellent and I use that lots.
      Honestly... it does not get used that much... so I would say go for the other model.

      @richardenever2739 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@everythingandthekitchensink That's funny, after the first paragraph I thought you were recommending it and then there was the plot twist at the end! Right now there's a special on the meat probe model that makes the price difference only $14. Given it's usually an $800 difference I think I'll go for the meat probe model. Thanks again for the advice.

    • @everythingandthekitchensink
      @everythingandthekitchensink  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi! Yes... Perfect Roast and Bake are part of Assist feature. If you select a cake from Assist it will most likely use the baking sensor to cook it automatically. Perfect roast is slightly different - there are assist options for different meats, but if you put the meat probe in the oven it activites the perfect roast - it will cook automatically again until the meat/fish is cooked. Hope that helps :-)

      Hi, yes I am still very happy with it. The touch menu can sometimes be an issue but more often it works fine - I have found that you just need to keep the screen very clean and make sure you do not have greasy or wet fingers when using the screen.

      Hello, as this is a totally independent oven from the hob I believe you can use whatever you like. I would double check the allowance if you intend to put the hob over the top of the oven, I think you are totally fine with gas, but I only have electric so you would need to check.

    Thank you for a great review of the product. I'm refitting my new kitchen and am leaning towards purchasing three ovens from the 8 series. 2 singles (one with the steam) and a combi. It would be really interesting to know how you feel about the oven a few months in. This was one of the reviews that o this oven out there so thank you ever so much for taking the time to one. Is there going to be a follow on review on this?

    • @everythingandthekitchensink
      @everythingandthekitchensink  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Thanks for your feedback! I am planning to do a follow up video soon. But overall I am still very much impressed with it. The cleaning function works pretty well, its a shame the oven shelves are not made out of the same metal as the ones you can keep in during the clean cycle. The bulb did go, a few days after cleaning, so I had to buy a new one, so far this is working. I baked a cake the other day using the bake feature, it displayed an error and I had to reset the oven, it then worked fine after. I had a software update a week ago that went fine, although I would like to have known what the update actually did. Apart from that its worked really well. I cooked some jacket potatoes using the assist feature and first time they were fine, second time they needed a little longer really. I cooked a sirloin of beef using the meat probe, cooked it to 48C and it was actually perfect! So impressed with that.
      I would have liked to get the steam version, but my microwave has built in steam too and I don't really use it that much, so not that bothered that I didn't get it. Would love to have at least 2 ovens! Good luck with your kitchen remodel!
      I will hopefully post a follow up video in a week or so!

      @@everythingandthekitchensink How do the software updates work?
      Thinking about buying the compact version of The Bosch or Siemens. Like the knob on the Siemens better but prefer the screens on the Bosch. You get a better overview. Only concern is the touch screen unresponsiveness.
      Thanks for the review btw. Not many real reviews out there.

      Snoopy hi! As far as I can tell updates just happen as long as you have it turned on using the app. You can have it update without telling you or make it ask if it’s ok, like I do. I can’t seem to find out anywhere what the update actually changes, which is a shame!

    • @d.s.5515
      @d.s.5515 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@everythingandthekitchensink Tfor the update. Am I guessing correctly that the software update is the home connect app, not the oven's firmware?
      And the app probably only works by creating an account with Bosh?
      Thinking about going for the biggest and baddest but I hate creating accounts to get functionality. Sounds like "yes you can buy our car", but you can't drive it unless you sell us your soul.

    • @everythingandthekitchensink
      @everythingandthekitchensink  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@d.s.5515 Hi, No, the update is the ovens firmware (however I can't seem to find out what it actually updates which which is a shame - I hoped it would add extra assist functions but so far I have not noticed anything different) The app does require an account to register warranty etc, but I think you don't actually need to register to make it work. I setup ages ago because of the home connect on my washing machine so can't quite remember.
      I plan to do a follow up soon, now I have had it a while. Thanks!
