Hats off to you for including League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Steve! Watched it as a kid and its greatest service was making me curious of the source material, which made me devour all the 19th century books that introduced the fantastic characters. Awesome choices. Also, enjoyed Rise of Planet of Apes a lot.
Truffaut a dude bro hero? I don’t think so. Most of his movies are female centered and his reputation today is basically just The 400 Blows, although he made some other good films for sure. Steve’s movie criticism is many, many rungs lower than his book criticisms (which are great). The next time the urge to discuss movies arises tell yourself “DON’T DO IT!! “ he.. he….he “JUST DON’T DO IT”.
@@michaelk.vaughan8617 Hah! Oh come on! In the library scene, when the bad guy says "Draw your pistol" and Nemo responds "I walk a different path," tell me a little part of you doesn't cheer!
Excellent video Steve! Love it! And I'm glad I drew you in and yes I do need accountability! ("All the little Grammatical errors" I almost fell out of my chair laughing) And Challenge Accepted Sir! Let's define the field of battle - Best 10 SciFi movies NOT adapted from books. (may take me a week or two to publish). Excellent video and choices! (accept maybe for that League of Extraordinary Gentlemen!)
The Boys from Brazil YES ! love this movie. My mom was the one that put me onto this movie. Watched it a few times and have it on DVD. I had a feeling you were talking about the Dam scene.
The Iron Giant is one of the best movies of all time! The TTT have nothing in common other than the first letter on their names and their often unpleasant adepts!
Truffaut’s films are loaded with women! They are very sensitive and not pretentious at all. Trivia: Franklin Schaffner also directed the original Planet of the Apes
You might guess from my name, and I’ve been watching you’re channel from the start. I’m a film fan or cineaste that you mention. I’ve watched fins for over 40 years and I’m 47. Let’s discuss this!
Love how much joy Frieda brings you ❤️ I’m late to this conversation but have either of you talked about The Martian yet? I havent read or watched it but I just read Project Hail Mary and didn’t like it at all. I think Ryan Reynolds would be the perfect Ryland Grace and that makes me hate it even more.
I am not much for his 10-6 but I do like that classic version of the Time Machine (I paid money to own it). Sir, The League of Extraordinary Gentleman movie is an insult to Alan Moore and what it is doing on a list next to Blade Runner 🙈. The 80s may be the greatest decade for movies but it was a streak that continued until the mid 90s.
I don't hate the new dune, unfinished as it is, but i dont get how anyone can think about "best scifi adaptations" and then think about Denis Villeneuve, and think of Dune instead of the much superior Arrival. Oh well, i guess it is subjective after all.

The Time Machine is a masterpiece! A MASTERPIECE!!!!
Sure thing, grandpa!
@@saintdonoghue Well, I guess it’s no League of Extraordinarily Stupid Gentlemen…Thank Goodness!
Though Nemo did have a cool car in that movie.

@@saintdonoghue I can’t believe I’m going to watch that movie again and it’s all your fault!
I'm supposed to be taking it easy, Steve, but I'm not sure I can leave these videos unanswered.

I feel vindicated. Tried to watch metropolis recently and couldn't finish it haha.

Oh i love the expanse!

Did I mention that I love Truffaut;s Farenheit 451? Oskar Werner was the best.
Steve talking about sci-fi movies reminded me of Peter Rosenthal's Onion review of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
:)

The Martian is my Number-3 pick Miranda. But Steve feels otherwise!
I wonder what a Tarkovsy version of Book of the New Sun would be like? 😉

Hee - the fact that it's an insult to Alan Moore is just an added bonus!
Why are so many commenters downing The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen!! Par Excllance!! I Totally agree Steve!!!!
Thank you kindly!
is there such a thing as a great movie that you never want to see again?
Metropolis is one of the movies you only see if you're forced to in a film class.
Do you think that about all silent films?
Still waiting on the fantasy adaptations videos go for it it I DARE you
ach - I cannot resist : T T T
The silliness of your premise is showing here, Steve. "Directors don't matter" unless their name starts with a T?
