  • Choosing a marine head can be intimidating! There are so many different types, and sometimes it isn’t clear which one is best for your boat. In this episode, I break down the differences between my top 5 toilets.

Gonna be buying a new head by the end of the year, this really helped showcase the different toilets! Thanks for the insights!

I have a Lavac on my boat for 20 years. It's a little different than the one in the video as i think it's an older or first design. never clogs!

Yes, heads are intimidating but this video has change my mind about pump style heads which I kept hearing were so problematic. I’m also happy to know that I don’t have to completely give up on having a bidet to be a liveaboard.
I love your connection to the marine supply industry and your willingness to explain these deep in the weeds topics. This Interior Designer and future sailor thanks you 🙏🏽

I swapped out the stock Jabsco toilet on my Catalina 30 for a Raritan PH2. The difference was amazing...I swear I could flush a pair of jeans down the PH2 (slight exaggeration). I only flush with fresh water. Sea water flushing makes your boat stink. Installation was super easy and never a problem. 👍

Very well presented information! You should mention that Fisheries Supply can ship to almost anywhere.

Nicely done. We have two Jabsco toilets on our boat. Not a fan of that brand, so thank you showing alternatives. I would appreciate knowing if any of these toilets use a joker valve (similar to Jabsco). The Joker valve has been the most troublesome part. I have added new Joker valves to my maintenance routine on the same schedule as the raw water impeller. Keep up the good work. - a fan

I have had a Dometic Santi Potti for over 20 years. I have the MSD version so can use a pump out. But I take the toilet on deck and have short adapter to hook to the pump out. Cool huh? I have the toilet vented thru the cabin and there is minimal smell. Of course I dont use it only for pee since I am a guy but wife uses it for pee. We put the paper in a garbage can. But here is the deal: I will compare my 6 gallon waste tank to a 20 gallon tank with a standard marine head like the PH2. With the Dometic I use a coupe squirts of water to flush. With a standard head you use a heck of a lot more water so you need a bigger waste tank. I can take the 6 gallon waste tank home or to any bathroom or to a pump out. It is the best method!! I am considering a composting toilet because it looks even easier. Thanks for the great video. I have used the Lavac many times on a friends boat. It works well. Sometimes the vacuum lasts too long so I would plumb in an air valve.

Nice video! You have a great perspective as someone who works in a boat store and so has seen all the different system :) Have you done any work on your drinking water system too? I'm planning to install inspection hatches and a carbon filter on my HR Rasmus to help manage cleanliness of the built-in tank.
