Though I hate to post negative comments, I do agree that they deserve the criticism. They are supposed to be the top GG of the year and yet all they give us are lackluster performances. They are more concerned of their visuals or getting their hair messed up than performing well. Kpop idols are professional performers, at least they have to do the bare minimum of their job. I pity the other members of the group who couldn’t show their talents because of the obvious favoritism.

@@preciousxiong5313 at this point, it's clear they lipsync because they can't sing and that is unacceptable. the company isn't restricting them, they're protecting them for the even worse hate they'd get for actually singing live. to clarify, wonyoung and leeseo can definitely kind of sing and they can hold a tune, but they're definitely not good enough to give their company a reason to trust that they're capable of delivering a full live performance that sounds good throughout and doesn't have too many mistakes. ik kpop idols nowadays are predominantly performers and dancers but not being able to sing your own songs is a bit too far (if said songs aren't ridiculously hard)

Yes, actually that is way more interesting because we can feel more of their effort, passion and emotion way better. Especially when they add some add-libs or impromptu. Honestly i lost interest in expecting 'big stage' performance nowadays, because most of them are repetitive and too scripted with the same audio, mixed a bit for the intro part, sometimes added breakdance in between but still feel hollow because in the end it feels like the same performance with different fancy outfits and stages. It's like they're on stage to just follow the script, show pretty angles to the camera then call it a day, not because they genuinely enjoy to be present and perform on stage
well the audience nowadays eat that shits up anyway, the "market" is the one who put the standard bar too low that idols can't even do the bare minimum
They used to have groups that could actually sing like Sistar, Boyfriend as well as the current groups like Monsta X and Cravity. They have K.will too but what happened now? Are starship more concerned in visuals than talent nowadays? No hate to IVE but it's really disappointing to me.
I love their songs they are bop. I even put after like as my ringtone but performance wise they don't give as much as a "best group" or a "best performing group" gives

Nah, Liz is a strong vocalist but Yujin is stronger. She would’ve been able to hold the pre-Chorus note and the high note but Liz probably would’ve fitted the parts more

I'm sure if it was liz, half of the article mostly will talk about her physical appearance more than appreciating her vocal just like the usual articles about her. That's the sad reality.
No such thing as a live sit down performance in kpop. Even when they sing for the radio it's lip syncing. Kpop agencies treats these sit down performances as a luxury and they believe they must be perfect performances with perfect vocals, so they always make them lip synced or autotuned.

This group trains to looks pretty and cute. Singing live, especially high notes, requires you to move their face muscles that interfers with that cutesy face their making. They aren't idols, they're just dolls that move around
Periodt. They have weak to average skills. Their catchy songs and pretty faces are carrying them. Starship should have actually trained and educate them before debuting, cause this is frustrating.

They are an industry plant. Starship is a subsidiary of Kakao which is a major music distributor. Of course their labels wont make them flop, they will give huge budget for every comeback and push their songs in playlist and radios
Sort of related but man, I can't be the only one that is concerned for wonyoung. She puts more effort into fixing her hair multiple times during the performance, where she's not moving, instead of just singing. This wouldn't have been weird if I didn't notice how she's always heavily focused on her appearance during all her performances. Once you see it you can't unsee it. I don't like to comment on wonyoung because she gets enough hate and she’s young but it's so hard to watch her fancams and performances because when she dances she never gets into it and is so rigid because she's trying so hard to not accidentally make an ugly face, maintain her appearance, not move her hair instead of just having fun. She doesn't let a hair get out of place for a single second even while she dances which causes her to not do certain moves. It's like she's trying to make sure that she poses right for the best thumbnail. All idols do this but with wonyoung it's more severe. As a dancer, sure you may fix your appearance but if you're enjoying the performance than you don't really remember to and it's often not that serious. This isn't hate but I'm certain some of you guys will go crazy. Hope she improves and gets to be an artist before a model. The pressure of being a visual and center from such a young age has done something to her, and I'm sure starship is breathing down her neck.

As a fan of IU I felt disrespected when I watched their performance like Wonyoung didn't even move a single muscle when she hit the high note. Leeseo has so much potential she has a sweet voice but seeing them doing lipsync while sitting is nothing but pure dissapointment. I think what people fail to realize in these kind of situations is that critics are valid because of the position some groups hold in the industry. There are many groups out there who have great vocalists, insane dancers and crazy rappers who doesn't get 10% of the attention these famous groups nowadays have - those which NONE of them cares to sing live. Imagine dedicating yourself to be a great singer and performer for years, doing your best on stage, and then the groups who gain recognition, awards and brand deals are a bunch of people who aren't even barely good in singing. But this isn't even the idols fault imo, I just blame the public in general that would rather make anyone with a pretty face famous than to actually support people who are competent.

i've watched weeekly covered the song thrice one with the whole group, one with the main vocalist and one with a lead vocal with haewon (?) from nmixx and chaehyun from kep1er and girlie's were singing like their rents are due. starship should've made liz and yujin do this since they're the best vocalist in the group. it's disappointing since i've watched wonyoung since pd48 and look where we are right now.
Wonyoung’s vanity and self-obsession will be her downfall. Being conscious of your looks is not a bad thing, but when you keep looking at the side camera to check your face and hair WHILE performing, there’s seriously something you should work on. She’s had a ton of surgeries at such a young age, which doesn’t help her self-esteem at all. Wonyoung needs to learn that there’s nothing wrong with being her genuine self

@@Xaaaftee they can. they're just weak when it comes to overall support which limits their abilities. range, agility etc. but they can literally use their voices. and can do so decently. the issue is that they don't choose whether they lip or not and vocal training takes years for proper growth especially when you're that young and your body is still growing and changing. the voice is also affected by illness, anxiety, stress, the weather etc. so many singers will lip or not do their best because they can't. because their body is a unit and if they're worked too hard or have a bout of stage anxiety it all goes to shit. it's easy to hate but if you want to see improvements and receive a good product then you have to look at what's actually going on. not being funny but fans and labels create so much pressure for these young people. think about how much hate wony gets for example. she's only 18 and she sees alot of that. she knows people will be watching and picking at her every breath. do you not think that would cause discomfort with being on stage and in public? a smile can hide alot. lmao ik this was alot but i think it's important that we're careful because these are real human beings and we've already lost many.

The difference between the two is Wonyoung literally went through Produce 48 (even ranked #1 in that fraud of a show), Iz*one, and IVE and somehow her looks are the only thing that was enhanced. Leeseo obviously got more potential to improve.

Lip syncing is a norm in the K-pop industry and it's no wonder we are seeing so many idol bands. You can fake not being able to sing with the help of lip syncing but you can't fake not knowing how to dance. Hence why looks, dancing skills and stage presence are being prioritised over vocal abilities. It's mostly about visuals for them.
Looks like after the selfie lessons, winking lessons, makeup lessons, and visual lessons, starship didn't have the budget to give them singing lessons💀
I could NEVER Stan Ive. They have amazing songs but that's it. Performance nothing. Live singing nothing. Personality nothing. This is what happens when all you care about is visuals. And we the fans (especially the international fans) are getting tired of it. They deserve the backlash. Wonyoung needs to hold herself to a higher standard . There are many idols who have insane visuals but take their craft seriously. She isn't just a pretty face but I think that's what she's been made to believe.
So, this is an odd situation. I definitely agree that sitting down and STILL lip syncing is extremely embarrassing, but at the same time, they may not have had the choice. Their company or the stage most likely had the final say in whether or not they would lip sync. I haven't seen Ive perform live like ... at all, but they have some strong vocalists so I really wish they would. That’s the issue with the K-pop industry. They would rather put the more attractive, less talented members on stage over the “less attractive”, more talented members because they know it will get more attention. Sad thing is that, despite the criticism, it works.
At the end of the year the schedule is just insane so no wonder they're extremely exhausted... I'd say the same thing about other idols. I wanna defend them so much but I have to admit that they should've given at least 40% of effort to this "sitting-on-chairs" performance. The disrespect to the original artist is insane. Iu is someone known for her songs and vocals in SK and lip syncing to her song WHILE sitting is unacceptable. There are groups like Stayc, le sserafim, New jeans who literally almost never lip sync while performing bone cracking choreographies. So idk what starship was thinking while telling these girls to lip sync while literally sitting on a chair.
I'm tired of people thinking up excuses for Wonyoung and Leeseo... They're not even dancing. Other groups are busy too, but they gave us cool performances with intense choreographies. For God's sake, they even used a cover from TH-cam instead of recording a new version! The amount of effort put into this performance = 0. Starship even made things worse when choosing wrong vocalists for this cover. Leesoo has the weakest vocal technique in Ive, Wonyoung is slightly better but anyway...
When youre singing and doing choreo at the same time i think its acceptable to use the backtrack or lipsync a little cause you get tired and out of breath. But you're literally seated not doing shit and still want to lipsync bffr

Starship is blatantly disregarding Liz's vocals. She worked hard to be able to do her main vocal role while dancing that's why she's the most stable out of all of them. Then you get this. You know the point about "on" made me think about how bts get hate for their vocals during live performances for being not stable. Meanwhile bts have some of the hardest choreographies out there. The choreographies are enough to make them breathless. But still they sing..ofc it's gonna be shaky. In fact, their level of stability is damn impressive for such choreos. But people are so used to lipsyncing. They don't understand how it actually sounds when u dance while singing

i have been following ive's music since they debuted and i might stop supporting them because of how many things are wrong about the group. starship's favoritism, starship starving wy, members being pushed around just so others can shine, the lack of effort put into their performances from some members (wonyoung). i hate to stop being a dive because i like the members and the music for the most part, but now i might be a solo stan or otwhatever because some of the members behaviors really piss me off and the fact that all of this stuff gets pushed to the side. i am sick and tired of some of the members' mistreatment and therfore, i am resigning as a full-on dive and just sticking with my biases.

Honestly i lost interest in expecting 'big stage' performance nowadays, because most of them are repetitive and too scripted with the same audio, mixed a bit for the intro part, sometimes added breakdance in between but still feel hollow because in the end it feels like the same performance with different fancy outfits and stages. It's like they're on stage to just follow the script, show pretty angles to the camera then call it a day, not because they genuinely enjoy to be present and perform on stage

Sort of related but man, I can't be the only one that is concerned for wonyoung. She puts more effort into fixing her hair multiple times during the performance, where she's not moving, instead of just singing. This wouldn't have been weird if I didn't notice how she's always heavily focused on her appearance during all her performances. Once you see it you can't unsee it. I don't like to comment on wonyoung because she gets enough hate and she’s young but it's so hard to watch her fancams and performances because when she dances she never gets into it and is so rigid because she's trying so hard to not accidentally make an ugly face, maintain her appearance, not move her hair instead of just having fun. She doesn't let a hair get out of place for a single second even while she dances which causes her to not do certain moves. It's like she's trying to make sure that she poses right for the best thumbnail. All idols do this but with wonyoung it's more severe. As a dancer, sure you may fix your appearance but if you're enjoying the performance than you don't really remember to and it's often not that serious.
This isn't hate but I'm certain some of you guys will go crazy. Hope she improves and gets to be an artist before a model. The pressure of being a visual and center from such a young age has done something to her, and I'm sure starship is breathing down her neck.

I think what people fail to realize in these kind of situations is that critics are valid because of the position some groups hold in the industry. There are many groups out there who have great vocalists, insane dancers and crazy rappers who doesn't get 10% of the attention these famous groups nowadays have - those which NONE of them cares to sing live. Imagine dedicating yourself to be a great singer and performer for years, doing your best on stage, and then the groups who gain recognition, awards and brand deals are a bunch of people who aren't even barely good in singing. But this isn't even the idols fault imo, I just blame the public in general that would rather make anyone with a pretty face famous than to actually support people who are competent.

@@Xaaaftee they can. they're just weak when it comes to overall support which limits their abilities. range, agility etc. but they can literally use their voices. and can do so decently. the issue is that they don't choose whether they lip or not and vocal training takes years for proper growth especially when you're that young and your body is still growing and changing. the voice is also affected by illness, anxiety, stress, the weather etc. so many singers will lip or not do their best because they can't. because their body is a unit and if they're worked too hard or have a bout of stage anxiety it all goes to shit. it's easy to hate but if you want to see improvements and receive a good product then you have to look at what's actually going on. not being funny but fans and labels create so much pressure for these young people. think about how much hate wony gets for example. she's only 18 and she sees alot of that. she knows people will be watching and picking at her every breath. do you not think that would cause discomfort with being on stage and in public? a smile can hide alot. lmao ik this was alot but i think it's important that we're careful because these are real human beings and we've already lost many.

The difference between the two is Wonyoung literally went through Produce 48 (even ranked #1 in that fraud of a show), Iz*one, and IVE and somehow her looks are the only thing that was enhanced. Leeseo obviously got more potential to improve.

FYI that song is not hard to sing at all (for professional singers). The mix goes up to C#5 and the head voice goes up to Eb5. That should be really easy for trained sopranos. Lip syncing is a norm in the K-pop industry and it's no wonder we are seeing so many idol bands. You can fake not being able to sing with the help of lip syncing but you can't fake not knowing how to dance. Hence why looks, dancing skills and stage presence are being prioritised over vocal abilities. It's mostly about visuals for them.
Looks like after the selfie lessons, winking lessons, makeup lessons, and visual lessons, starship didn't have the budget to give them singing lessons💀
I could NEVER Stan Ive. They have amazing songs but that's it. Performance nothing. Live singing nothing. Personality nothing. This is what happens when all you care about is visuals. And we the fans (especially the international fans) are getting tired of it. They deserve the backlash. Wonyoung needs to hold herself to a higher standard . There are many idols who have insane visuals but take their craft seriously. She isn't just a pretty face but I think that's what she's been made to believe.

So, this is an odd situation. I definitely agree that sitting down and STILL lip syncing is extremely embarrassing, but at the same time, they may not have had the choice. Their company or the stage most likely had the final say in whether or not they would lip sync. I haven't seen Ive perform live like ... at all, but they have some strong vocalists so I really wish they would.
All that being said, I'm not sure the girls should be the ones getting criticism if they didn't have a choice. I'm not even a stan but these poor girls get so much hate already

That’s the issue with the K-pop industry. They would rather put the more attractive, less talented members on stage over the “less attractive”, more talented members because they know it will get more attention. Sad thing is that, despite the criticism, it works.
At the end of the year the schedule is just insane so no wonder they're extremely exhausted... I'd say the same thing about other idols. I wanna defend them so much but I have to admit that they should've given at least 40% of effort to this "sitting-on-chairs" performance. There are groups like Stayc, le sserafim, New jeans who literally almost never lip sync while performing bone cracking choreographies. I'm tired of people thinking up excuses for Wonyoung and Leeseo... They're not even dancing. Other groups are busy too, but they gave us cool performances with intense choreographies. For God's sake, they even used a cover from TH-cam instead of recording a new version! The amount of effort put into this performance = 0. Starship even made things worse when choosing wrong vocalists for this cover. Leesoo has the weakest vocal technique in Ive, Wonyoung is slightly better but anyway...
When youre singing and doing choreo at the same time i think its acceptable to use the backtrack or lipsync a little cause you get tired and out of breath. But you're literally seated not doing shit and still want to lipsync bffr

I don't care for MV as much as performances. Some groups may have the highest production for their MVs, but if they lack in their performances and live I am not supporting.

You know the point about "on" made me think about how bts get hate for their vocals during live performances for being not stable. Meanwhile bts have some of the hardest choreographies out there. The choreographies are enough to make them breathless. But still they sing..ofc it's gonna be shaky. In fact, their level of stability is damn impressive for such choreos.
