I really like the mad fientists story where he realized he had to notch down his savings rate in order to be happier in the present. I think we are all trying to find that sweet spot.

I love this! I’m a Financial Coach and actually teach this important principal of not giving up your happiness now. You can still pay off debt, save and later invest... but never forget the now. Money is a tool, but our happiness is apart of our health that we must not neglect. Great video!!!

So true. When I first started investing my approach was to put away more than the average person but still make sure I had a comfortable salary left over. Then any time I got a pay increase, 80-90% of it would go towards my investments, so I still got to feel a slight increase in comfort but since I already had a good baseline to live off of, I never felt burdened by not getting to enjoy that other 80-90%.
It’s win win because your investment rate keeps growing and you still get to enjoy life today. At this stage I’m putting away over 50% of my take home without ever really knowing the feeling of having my income cut in half.

Thats honestly the best way it sounds similar to my investment strategy. I've learnt to live off 30% comfortably

What you Focus on Expands! Focusing on FI can change your life! Money gives you options not happiness. Great interview.

I don't like having to work period. If I quit I'd have to live off of welfare eventually, which would suck even worse. I'm setting up my future self by doing something that I don't want to, but sort of have to right now, so I'm sacrificing present happiness for future happiness to some level.
So this is really a load of horseshit and is for the birds. I'm not really complaining that much. I go on trips though not nearly as many as I want and don't take time with loved ones for granted etc. Just saying that often times the best path is to push forward even if it sucks.

Work makes me so miserable I cannot be happy during it. I've been chasing this idea for 10 years and nothing makes any sense. I hated work even before 10 years ago but was working crappy jobs and just surviving so didn't have time to think about retirement. It's not about my savings rate; as long as I am trapped at work I'm going to hate it.

I hope up find what makes you happy, it doesn't have to be much. Start small for example spending time with family and knowing they're healthy is comforting for me
