On the one hand it’s a stunning valley and on the other hand you have these ugly, falling apart hotel towers which really do look lieb they came straight out of the apocalypse. These two things clash in a way I honestly haven’t seen yet. Also they had Baumkuchen and a steam locomotive, so they won anyway.

I absolutely love The Journey Across Japan series! I wish the episodes could be longer but I get that there’s an absurd amount of work that goes into them so it’s nearly impossible to keep the same quality if they were longer.

4:24 Hall of the Mountain King is usually used when someone descends into madness, so it's a very fitting BGM for Natsuki xD Okay, well, technically Natsuki doesn't _descend_ into madness... he's been there for decades 😄

The JAJ videos always remind me of a Channel 4 style documentary on Japan, but way better, so it was awesome to actually see some of the crew who make these kinds of videos possible. I always wondered how Chris is able to produce so much high-quality content so quickly, so getting an insight into that was much appreciated

Great start of the journey even if you mostly failed on your plans hahahaha!
It would have been nice to see more of what made Kitagawa an onsen town too.
Glad to see new faces as well as the familiar presence of Ian and Ellen! To think Ian was one of the driving crew in the original JAJ I think, now he’s calling the shots behind the scenes? And I hope to see glimpses of Ellen throughout the series too, her travel with Chris from Hiroshima to Hakata was one of my favorite parts.
