Amazing! Prof. Nussbaum has a clear interest in compassion and empathy. I want to see more of that in the capabilities approach so that there is a clearer connection between the current developmment discourse and the relational aspects of human beings. Bravo Prof. Nussbaum. I was abit hard on you for the core capabilities' list... but watching numerous videos of your work and reflecting on your thought process, I see that there is some unfinished work on the pursuit of compassion and wellbeing. I am interested in following that up.

"...What do people need if they are to have a life of human dignity?". Interesting explanation of how the list of 10 capabilities is derived!

A country, the founding-"fathers" of which were slave-holders themselves has to engage in very deep psychological self-study and self-evaluation before embarking on lecturing the world on culture understanding and tolerance. When Hernán Cortés and his 1500 men and some women arrived in Aztec-dominated actual Mexico, the first thing they did was to marry local women, including Hernán Cortés, daughters of local caciques. I can´t imagine the travelers of the Mayflower marrying local women en masse. The fact that the blonde and attractive Martha Nussbaum, educated in white Harvard, has so much academic resonance nowadays against the black Angela Davis, educated in LA, persecuted and placed in prison, speaks volumes of how the canon, even the female canon is forged in the USA. Also, a person that does not study a foreign language nowadays is not the best person to lecture on human understanding and opening up to other cultures, even if she knows death Latin and death old Greek. If she wants to lecture on this subject, then I would strongly recommend her to study a modern foreign language, so that she can attempt to think and speak in another language other than her mother-tongue, and then she would speak with more authority on the subject. Since she does not want to speak Spanish, possibly because of biased and arrogant cultural prejudice, although great North-Americans have sung in Spanish, from Nat King Cole, to Joan Baez, The Carpenters, Eydie Gorme and even Johnny Cash, then I would advice her to study Italian, French or German. However, she has native languages in her own country like Arapahoe and others that sound beautiful, and she could try of of those too, why not? . Why not studying these languages to gain respectability among the native American community in the USA?. th-cam.com/video/0agwy7FrMDM/w-d-xo.html

Focusing on the USA History, not only the study of the slavery but also the study of the Hispanic tradition, as 1/4 of the actual USA was originally Spanish and Mexican territory, from Florida to California. Where did the Americans take the American dollar idea?, from the Spanish Caribbean dólar. What does California mean?. Well, study Hernán Cortés in the XVI century and you will learn it.

Acceptance of old Greek homosexuality (not so much lesbianism if we think of Sappho in the VII century BC only) was probably due to one of the oldest laws of human societies in all times and zones, that is, that if a man wants to perpetuate himself and access a fertile woman, he has to "buy" his way into marriage with a solid economic situation. Obviously, a destitute young male has little access to sexuality in all cultures because he can´t support the female and the subsequent children. Therefore, young males were directed towards homosexuality in old Greece in attendance to getting richer and more marriable. Even nowadays applies this law everywhere, especially in Muslim countries, where a male can only hope to access to a female by way of presenting a good economic visit card to her family. This is why young female babies are sold by their parents in Sub-Saharan African countries and this is why young girls and women are used as an economic token by their families everywhere, so is the Human Species, one that sells its daughters for sex and social respectability.

So. Islam has nothing to do with the oppression of women. Aha. -Is that a statistical or a feel-good approach?

Literally, "Islam" means "submission". Of men to women? Perhaps that's your experience, madam. But you don't seem to know the meaning of "masochistic", so who knows.

The struggles of women?. Do you mean by that poor women?. Because you are not talking about the struggles of rich and powerful women. What about the struggles of poor men?. There have always been rich and powerful women, shake off these false idea that the struggle was and is and will be between women and men. Go and speak with the queen or the spouse of any dictator of any country and she will laugh at your gender struggles.
