The Grimm Bros did not write this or and fairytale stories. They discovered them preserved in Old German and they copied it.

Not quite the case, as they spent many years collecting manuscripts during their time working as librarians. Later on they even invited storytellers to their house and transcribed the tales told to them, often with their own Germanic and religious embellishments. Thanks for listening!
