Legend has it the Jessie James 35 Conquest was clocked at 147 mph in Grand Haven in the summer of 1986, outrunning all Super and Open Class boats by miles before winning the race.
I watched the jessie James boat make a comeback race in 2005. It got smoked by the newer boats but ended up coming 4th which is fantastic outcome for an older boat.
came here for Apache 54:55 (only tied up, StarChaser) but got to see Marc Lavin interview (Jesse James) . Amazing racer and team, rarely the best die . Such a tough ending . Thanks to channel, for saving this footage !
I was a navigator for Mad MAc in the last race in Freeport NY ran against Fountain, great memories, I was a kid, the 80s were the best following NPBA through the NE
clips from the Northport 200 .. very cool.. i grew up in traverse city, mi where that race was held . i even got a ride in the 40+ foot , quad engine ,Popeye boat . They stopped hosting that race and many people in Traverse City still talk about it and wanting them to bring races back there

cool vid those were the days
P24 Insanity of Chuck Neu’s became 2x national and world champions beating out several 32 skaters.
watching again I know I am old because I know all the boats in the vid and many of the people.

Great video!
Love hearing about Rich Luhrs' history in the sport also. Does anyone know though, if the Lavin Bros crash was captured on video?
I met Mark in CT he was a nice dude, I always loved that boat, I was with MAD MAC a 32 Scorpion in C class
There is video of it. But not floating around.
The 80's sure were a bushy time. Grow and show as much hair as possible
Men were comfortable being men, and not emasculated like they are today.
@@djscott9207 absolutely right women as well bushy clamshells were the rage
