Hailan had no one other than Ruyi and her son. As important as her son was to her, Ruyi was more important. In that respect she was just like Jia and her obsession with her Lordship.
Halain knew that the emperor would never be able to see there was nothing physical between Ruyi and Ling Yunche. The only way to eliminate the problem was to eliminate Ling Yunche.

If there was any scrap of love Ruyi had for the emperor, it died when he admitted that Yawan had planeted the seed of doubt/distrust. Wei Yanwan was so delusional to feel aggrieved about Ling Yunche's death yet she never considered herself was the cause of all his sufferings. So sick personality.

Hailan was always a loyal 妹妹 to her 姐姐. Sometimes, 如意 was so hurt she couldn't see from those around her.
Ruyi, was an expendable commodity for the Emperor, knowing fully well her innocence he dared to allow her to go to the Cold Palace, Suoxin be tortured, Ling Yuche tortured. She doesn't get it that at this point Hailan did what he Ling himself requested out of mercy and Ruyi's safety & dignity's sake. The Dowager Empress was right about the context of an Emperor's fickle heart. Never gets it, to the point of being buried in with Chun and her Ulanara Clan removed from access of being concubines, let alone relevance in the court. At that time the harems were like breeding farms.

The more I watch the Emperor, the more I hate him for being such a paranoid psychopath. He is so undeserving of love.
No he isnt, we're just use to wanting husbands as slaves. Also as an Emperor he had ample reason to be cautious of those around him. In this case however him "seeing" Ling touching Ruyi that one time is what never left his mind......what gets me is an actual guard touching her would have been appropriate. However Him protecting Ruyi and seeing them staring at each other so close, filled his brain with images he couldn't comprehend prior. His son saying he saw them hugging, was the nail in the coffin.

Ruyi was such a fool. In private with Suoxin or Hailan or Rongpei she could have been honest and said she loved Ling Yunche. The Emperor stopped being her love the moment he threw her in the Cold Palace she just refused to acknowledge it, so many times I wanted to throw my arms into the screen and shake her hard. She's so incredibly intelligent surely she must have realised that the Emperor was going to become how he was just from living in the Palace all the time before she married Hongli. Like wake up and smell the horses honey, that's the smell of all the manure he would throw at her 🙄
Hailan was absolutely right to grant Ling Yunche his end but the Empress is too stubborn to see it. Grow up woman! Yanwan would have hounded them until both were dead, yet Ruyi's obsession with justice in a time that was by definition unjust in every way is tiresome. That's really the only criticism about the show, Ruyi was _too good_ her affection for those she loved in whatever form meant she dragged many innocents into an impossible situation when it was what she wanted to be true versus what the Emperor believed was true. They are two very different things. Ruyi *wanted* to find out about the mushrooms to lift the veil of death and suspicion around Sir Ling, whereas the Emperor *believed* that the pair were lovers purely because Ruyi constantly insisted on proving Sir Ling and she were innocent. The moment that seed was sewn and sprouted repetitively by the gossips it was over for Ling Yunche and the marriage of 'love' she stupidly idolised. She'd be more believable had she seen what Hailan did, never mentioned it again and carried on like normal. Hell, she could have spent 2 or 3 nights cloistered in Anhua Hall for 'guidance' then continued on. That the Emperor reacted with such a head whip when Chunchan mentioned framing the Empress and Yunche told me he really, deeply believed it so much he couldn't stand to be around the woman he once loved is telling and he only realised what he lost after being told that. Karma indeed for the Emperor, once dished out he becomes a shell, knowing he had the same 'loving' wife for 40+ years and lost her. But Ruyi too was kind of getting Karma sent her way in the form of death as she was so passive at times she may as well have been a watercolour hanging on the wall!
