Sanbao is a real one...he was so loyal to Ruyi. I get that Ruyi was tired and drained but after the boat incident, she became too passive and the Consort Ling walk all over her. She kept waiting for the emperor to be the one to admit wrong and be how he was when they were younger but he wasn't. She really did put love over being the empress. I get it but in the end, she didn't preserve herself well. Empress Dowager and her Aunt tried to warn her to preserve herself but she didn't listen.
I don't think she had it in her to do so. She was just kind and loving down to the bone and having to put up with the conniving and the hurt just left her with no reserves.
@@Kat19760 I get that, I just keep thinking about her son and Prince yongi. She was the Empress and could've had consort ling punished or killed in regards to the boat incident but she had to go to the boat and confront the emperor. Even after, she could've pretended to apologize and take care of business, if the emperor would've gotten mad or deposed her, at least the prince yongi would've been spared and maybe the Empire wouldn't have fallen like it did under Consort ling's son.
No, she's already tired since long time ago and the only thing that kept her alive was basically her son. Just because it's not in her to suicide so she can only abandon herself to die slowly in order to set her own soul free. She's tired and that's why she cut her hair because in their culture it's basically the path of no return.
It's the end of her faith with the emperor, it's like telling everyone that the emperor is already dead for her.
So she surely doesn't need to care about him anymore let alone her seat.
The only thing she would arrange is only to keep her son alive because she's not gonna be able to save everyone around her anyway. Her loyal maid would most likely choose to die with her, because without her around, they won't have future anyway.
They might even suffer instead, so to follow to her death is the best thing they could have to start with.
They're slave, bought, their life belong to the master.
They have no family to go back to afterall and no other consort would ever feel secure having people who is not personally trained by them.

Ruyi never wished her son to be an emperor I think, because she doesn't want him to suffer nor she wants him to turn into a heartless man like Qianlong.
That's why she didn't try to fight for his status. That's why she only asked for help from Zhenhuan to settle things, basically just for the sake of keeping him alive.
