    So much more helpful hearing this and seeing the annotated maps rather than trying to read it over and over and imagine the areas. Thanks a lot!

    Incredible winecast. I have to say, i stumbled on your page on accident a few weeks ago searching for an explanation on youtube for German wine law. The discovery of this channel was nothing short of amazing. This year I passed the CSW and most recently WSET Level 3. My knowledge on wine has increased substantially, but admittedly there are some areas that I dont still fully understand and just memorized what i needed to pass the exams. The videos you provide have helped me tremendously to connect the dots to help me understand what i have been studying. I cant thank you enough for what you do here. These are amazing. I will be doing the Certified Somm in the fall and these videos will be a great resource to supplement my study. Thank you again and keep them coming!

    Ok. Looking at the AOCs in a layered/flipping it horizontal really makes a lot of sense!!! Thank you.

    Just growing an interest in wine and have been sticking to California as the French system seemed incomprehensible to me but decided that one cannot be familiar with wine w/o being familiar with France and I've started with Bordeaux. It's not as complex as I thought but there is a great deal to learn. Thanks for the use of maps and diagrams and breaking it down as you did. Look forward to watching your channel.

    This is a great video - thank you. And this is an excellent example of why I would love someone to put out a book of maps of wine regions with transparent overlays for this and also for climate, soil types, etc. It would be soooo helpful.

    @theunkownwinecaster please post a picture of that wonderful graph of yours: "Layered Appellations". It is very simplified and easy to understand.

    Hi - your vids are extremely helpful and interesting. Thank you so much! As I research on Bordeaux wine, I came across with a (maybe dumb) question and hope you could help... I noticed that Lafite does no more use the Pauillac AOC on its recent year productions. Is this because the wine enjoys such a good reputation that they decided to get rid of the AOC all together just as they did for the Premier Cru designation? I noticed the same situation with some cheaper but good quality wines such as Moulin De Duhart, Chateau Duhart-Milon's second wine (also a DBR production). If wine makers can decide whether to print the AOC designation on the labels, then is there a reliable way to tell a wine's AOC if it is not shown on its label? Thanks!

    • @winexploration2718
      @winexploration2718 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      To celebrate its 150 years Lafite has changed the design of its labels, and not the mention of his AOC.

    Thank you for another great winecast. Have you thought of doing a video on the differences between organic, biodynamic and holistic wine?

    • @TheUnknownWinecaster
      @TheUnknownWinecaster  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I have quite a bit, actually, but I've avoided doing one because i'm not neutral on the subject. I don't think the claims made by most biodynamists are well supported. So, it's mostly a matter of my finding an even-handed way to approach the issue while being honest about my assessment of biodynamics. That said, I had a lot of the same reservations about doing a cast on glassware and that turned out fine; so, I should probably just bite the bullet and do one on organic/biodynamic wines, etc. Thanks again for the compliment and for the question. Cheers!

    I have a suggestion. It would be great if you can speak at a slower pace. It's hard to keep up with what you're saying if you rattle it off at high speed. Have a glass of good Pinot while making the recording. Cheers
