I was fortunate enough to buy a Chronometre Bleu at auction in 2014 at a below-retail price of $18K (before auction premium). I love my "entry-level" FP Journe and I doubt I'll ever sell it. I just wish people like Kevin O'Leary didn't sound so douchey when talking about FP Journe watches.
He is not a great ambassador for the brand, I think his “love” or “virus” comes from his love of ROI vs the horological aspects but I could be wrong 🤷🏻 I don’t know the guy, just the impression he gives off.
Ugh Mr. Wonderful is one of my least favourite “watch enthusiasts” if one could even call him that. Ugh! But man! WHAT A FANTASGIC AUCTION FIND! 😱 and just in the nick of time!
@@watchpapi while he does talk about a love of dials, I feel like he mainly talks about investment potential whenever I see a video of him talking about watches and it’s off-putting to me.
To F.P. Journes credit he did develop and manufacture a tourbillion by himself in 5 years. That takes companies millions of dollars, a designteam and a lot of years to create and release. Not to mention all the other weird horological problems he sometimes solves seemingly for his own enjoyment. You can't deny how good of a watchmaker he is.
This entry commentary was brilliant. So obvious but also so unique. You never hear watch enthusiasts daring to be honest about their obsession like that. Well done!
I love Journe’s work. It started four years ago. It makes sense, Britt. Seeing this watch made me appreciate other watches. As much as I think acquiring this watch, another part of my brain that likes art is disinterested and sees that we all can experience these beautiful objets d’artes even without purchase. It already lives in my head rent free in the East Wing Gallery of my brain along with Monet’s series, Impression: Sunrise. Well done, Britt!

This may not be a watch for me but I'm very pleased that these watches are made to such a standard that I can appreciate from a distance. We need people like FPJ and others to move forward with new creations even if they may be out of reach or cannot justify. With Journe there is such an an immediate realization of “Oh Boy This Is Special.” No need to research history or specs to quantify its significance. You just know the moment your eyes make contact. That is how I felt about 15 years ago when I first saw an image of one. I had no idea how much they cost or where they stood in the market. They are just so intrinsically interesting and gorgeous. There are many watches I love but at the end of the day F.P. Journe is the epitome of what I want a watch to be. Pure Magic.
Love the art and craft of F.P. Journe. Is it worth it? Sure, if you can afford that luxury without dumping yourself into deep doo doo. I find there are too many watches to love; so why not just love them all from afar? That distant allure makes it even more enticing and enjoyable. Cheers!

WTG Britt, adding more new subs this month than any of the grey market dealer channels. Roman, Eric, Spencer, PT or Watchbox. New subs made you bigger than Anthony Farrers channel.
It's all in the marketing - I would guess the actual cost of manufacture is about a tenth of the asking price with a large part of the profit spent in convincing everyone that it's worth ten times more...That's how it all works.
How about a review of the drinky bird in the background? (Hodinkee guy has one too...must be a watch geek thing). Anyway, love the Journe, definitely worth it! Thanks.

Hi Britney, do not apologize for your french accent. I’m french (Jérôme with o circonflexe!) and your accent is cute and exact, your videos delightful ! Keep on going, please ! And I realy Hope your husband can one day afford a fp journe !! Sincerly yours
I love your vibe. Think it is a Mixtur of Art, technik and history that makes it so interesting when you get infected by watches. Also the interaction with other watch enthusiasts and the numberless amount of stories and people it brings into your life. Keep it up girl, your doing just fine 👌😏
Whaaaat! Thank you so so much! And you’re so right. Watches are the meeting places of so many fantastic disciplines! I always say it is art, engineering, fashion and history. But the social aspect is such an important aspect that I always forget about!
I used to be a spec guy too. I used look into Lume, water resistant, and toughness. My daily driver turned out to be a dress watch. They are more comfortable and elegant. Unless I have only one watch, I will need all the specs. I have Gshock, Divers, and Field watches for those tough things.
Yeah, I do that sometimes, too. My current daily driver is a Garmin, for purely practical reasons. Today I wore a dive watch on a matte leather strap with a suit. Not exactly conventional, but the green of the dial almost exactly matched my shirt.
You said it perfectly - dress watches are so dang comfortable and elegant! My every day generally calls for a dress watch. :) An unusual day for me needs 200m water resistance and to be exceptionally tough ;)
@@BrittPearceWatches I would love to have a dress watch but for me WR matters as I commute to work on a bike in a town & country with very shitty weather :) Maybe I should just get something vintage and see if it survives.
I went to the journe Boutique in Toronto. They told me it's basically impossible to ever get one even if they were super nice about it. Like basically the dude was ashamed to even so no. Like he was guilty or something.
I have to remember not to have a mouth full of coffee when watching your videos. It almost came out of my noise when you showed a young F.P. and called him a stud muffin. lol.
This is a great one because you talk about the one thing most people don't: money. Its a very good thing to self-reflect and have gratitude for what you have. Myself, I do not feel blessed. I worked hard for what I have and I started with nothing. And I have a LONG way to go still. I pray that when I have kids, they are the blessed ones and that I can teach them gratitude.
The funny thing about the hobby is, and I understand it, that watch would never be my entry to that price bracket. Not because I don't see the value in it or think it's ridiculous, but personally, it doesn't give my heart a flutter or send my salivary glands into overdrive. If it does it for you, great, but I found a watch I couldn't just buy on a whim, and started saving my money for it. It will be months before I can buy it, but I will love it all the more when I get it, and it was love at first sight. All for a watch that costs maybe 1/15th the price of that FP Journe. And I still know it's silly, but the heart wants what the heart wants. Watch people understand. Other people really don't. That's OK. It doesn't have to make sense to everyone.
Stunning watch James and your story of how it became yours is great too. Most of all I like how the numerals reduce in size to accomodate the sub dial. I like the Lange crono too but some of the numerals are cut in half! Journe accomadate the sub dial in a much better way, to my eye at least.
Also on the subject of wanting to own one. I can theoretically afford one, but I really shouldn’t for a year or so. Self restraint is hard so hell. Also lols at this being a $30,000 watch. Back in the days when you could buy them eh.
Sarcasm on my side, I’m an obvious GS fan. I originally hated how GS put the PR on the dial. Over time I came to love it after seeing Breguets and Journes with the PR on the dial, not to mention GS’s execution. It’s watch nerd stuff. I hate the power reserve double standard complaint that GS gets. So many options and choices for people out there. Love what you love. Be original.
Wow that's one beautiful watch! Papi should let you wear it sometimes, it is just a bit too big for you. Making that a fashion statement. Well as it's been said... A dream is a wish your heart makes... I truly hope that your dream to have one will one day come true!
I'm willing to be that before Journe leaves the house to attend a cocktail party, he pauses in front of a full length mirror, adjusts his cravat, and says to his reflection "My God, mon ami, you are still such a stud muffin"!
I can imagine James with this watch, Panama hat on top, linen shirt (at least 2 buttons open), a big cigar in his hand, a nice scotch or rum in the other 😊👍 Don't worry Gringa, we'll get you a Philippe Dufour 😉😄
Bahahah! Now THAT IS A LOOK! And a loot I could totally see the papi in! Riding in a classy boat! He’s a classy guy! Oh I would DIE for a Philippe Dufour! 😱
Gorgeous watch. I’m super jelly. And I’d have chosen that colour too. Brown and gold go so well. What would maybe bug me tho, as much as the movement, case and dial finish are super impressive, is that the register track and numerals are painted and not applied. It would have been better if that was the case, imo. Plus, 30m! J/k, lol. Also, why did you feature a snippet of O’Leary? Ugh!
There is a white dialed CS without the guilloché that has applied numerals, they are equally beautiful and very clean looking, the platinum especially; a great watch to play with colourful straps with.
I came within a heartbeat of buying a Chronomètre Souvrain with a Havana dial - they even had one in stock when Pragnell stated carrying FPJ a couple of years back. But.... Journe....Patek.... I just felt like you gotta pick a side - and in my case I guess that was always going to be Patek. (Obviously, if you're Kevin O'Leary, you can collect both - and much more besides. But the more humble variety of plutocrat needs to pick a team, really. Otherwise things get a little bit crazy😬)
@@watchpapi I've owned three - but currently the only one in the collection is a 5212A. I'm down on the list for a couple of others too, but we'll have to see how business is doing if and when I get the call. (It's literally this bad when it comes to Patek/Journe/Lange, etc. It's more like buying freaking car than a wrist watch!😵💫)
Nice video, Brittany, thank you. Watch is beautiful. To my taste, less is more when it comes to dress watches. Hours, minutes, and seconds. Far as being silly buying expensive things like watches: yeah, well, people spend millions on a painting, just paint and a piece of canvas. Is it right to do so with so many problems in the world? Can't answer that.
All round production really good on this video, particularly sound. Regarding how does a man spend that much money on a watch…because he has an understanding wife that’s why!
the statement on how being a hobby and the way it skews what you think is so expensive is so true. 😂 i remember the days where i thought paying over $200 for a watch was nuts. those days are long gone ☠️
I look at FPJ and think "if Tim Burton started a watch brand". FPJ is reserved for the elite, or the investor convinced that when FPJ eventually pops his clogs, the watches made during his lifetime will disappear into the stratosphere. I appreciate FPJ's artistry, but I also find this segment of horology not a part of the watch industry I look to or particularly admire (agnostic of the money). There are plenty of other brands pushing the envelope far more than FPJ when it comes to artistry, engineering and design. I find this particular example quite ugly (sorry, just my stupid opinion), but I've always been a fan of the industrial design of the hour and minute hands. Great video as always, thanks Brittany 😊
Ahhh see, this is where we differ 😜 I love a good industrial design, but I also love sometjing like this! I probably love loopy dress watches even more! 🙈 Idk! I disagree! I think this is completely a part of the watch industry and a really important part…. Indies who do sometjing different! And sure… it’s not Grubel Forsey different or MB&F. But I think sometjing between very classical Breguet and modern is important! Don’t forget, FPJ’s mentor was Daniels! I think he’s an insanely important modern watchmaker and just because his watches are expensive & “hype” doesn’t lose him his position!
@@BrittPearceWatches I agree FPJ is an important person in watch making, for many reasons. I try to put the brand, hype, money, any associations, who they trained with, who their daddy was etc. to one side when looking at a watch. Or say to myself "if this was made by a different brand, would I still enjoy it"? Pretty hard to do sometimes with these brands. FPJ doesn't leave me feeling very much of anything really... It's all subjective and I've never held one in the hand. Maybe one day I will and I'll change my mind 🤗
There is something really sexy about that beating heart in gold. Great review Brit. Your passion for watches from a female perspective is always a breath of fresh air. Surely James will let you have a sneaky wear every now and then. ❤️
"...single barrel watch nears the end of the power reserve it starts losing more time.". Isn't it the other way around? At the end of the power reserve the main spring cannot push the balance wheel to its full amplitude, and the watch gains time, not loses it. And of course it's not really the end of the power reserve, but that's another story.

To think I just bought a new very fancy OLED TV and thought gosh that's a lot, it's about a quarter the price of my last watch...Perspective - nah, we're all just mad and we need some madness in our lives.
Hi Britney, do not apologize for your french accent. I’m french (Jérôme with o circonflexe!) and your accent is cute and exact, your videos delightful !
Keep on going, please !
And I realy Hope your husband can one day afford a fp journe !!
Sincerly yours
Huh!?
This is my FP Journe 🤷🏻
I love your vibe. Think it is a Mixtur of Art,
technik and history that makes it so interesting when you get infected by watches.
If you come to Frankfurt Germany, we,ll go on a watchshop trip😉
Good god I want a Souverain Chron’.
It’s just the hands. There’s magic in the hands.
Great to have a video on Journe, he really is the new Breguet.
Right?!?! And this is something so many people don’t appreciate! Mentee of Daniels. Lover of Breguet! Journe really is someone special.
…. I’m worried by calling him a Breguet lover, people will think he was Breguet’s lover. 😂 HE WAS NOT IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH ABE BREGUET hahaha
I have to remember not to have a mouth full of coffee when watching your videos. It almost came out of my noise when you showed a young F.P. and called him a stud muffin. lol.
Nice video ---- Pope Tier Rules !!! --- I am BINGE WATCHING all your video this weekend (AND ALL THE ADDS) !!!!!
You're the best!🙌🏽
This is a great one because you talk about the one thing most people don't: money. Its a very good thing to self-reflect and have gratitude for what you have. Myself, I do not feel blessed. I worked hard for what I have and I started with nothing. And I have a LONG way to go still. I pray that when I have kids, they are the blessed ones and that I can teach them gratitude.
I think my cup more than runs over! I've been blessed with far more than I deserve
Superb summary at the end...you had me feeling a little guilty up to that..
Hi Britt, love your energy (and your thoughts on watches but that goes without saying)
Yes!! It does exactly that! Soooo on point 👌🏻. It does the weirdest things to our brains 😄
This is perfectly said! And it takes all kinds of kinds in this crazy watch hobby!
Stunning watch James and your story of how it became yours is great too. Most of all I like how the numerals reduce in size to accomodate the sub dial. I like the Lange crono too but some of the numerals are cut in half! Journe accomadate the sub dial in a much better way, to my eye at least.
Thanks Steven 🙏🏼
I have a lot to say about this but it would be an incredibly rambling missive. So you were perfect.
F P Journe are awesome 👌🏼 unlike that F in microphone stand 🤦🏻♂️ that’s got to go woman 👩
You need to make a video on his watch collection! So far what we’ve seen is fire
There is one somewhere.
This is a lot of it…. th-cam.com/video/gjDjoz7RGSk/w-d-xo.html
Also on the subject of wanting to own one.
I can theoretically afford one, but I really shouldn’t for a year or so. Self restraint is hard so hell.
Also lols at this being a $30,000 watch.
Back in the days when you could buy them eh.
That’s just what we paid for it…. Well, I think $38k or 39.
Gringles, great review! Nice to hear a bit aboot Journe.
JAY GEE LICIOUS
I wish Journe put the power reserve on the back of the watch, ruins the dial.
It’s a fair one! I kinda love it! :)
😂
LOLLL! I’d be willing to bet some SERIOUS $$$ that you are absolutely right! 😂
How long did your husband have to wait to receive his CS Havana? It is a fantastic watch !
It was around 18 months after we started talking to the boutique about it that they messaged to say it was ready.
@@watchpapi Thank you so much for your reply! Hoping to get a Platinum CS for an important milestone in 2024
I can imagine James with this watch, Panama hat on top, linen shirt (at least 2 buttons open), a big cigar in his hand, a nice scotch or rum in the other 😊👍
Don't worry Gringa, we'll get you a Philippe Dufour 😉😄
Which Patek did you go for?
@@watchpapi I've owned three - but currently the only one in the collection is a 5212A. I'm down on the list for a couple of others too, but we'll have to see how business is doing if and when I get the call. (It's literally this bad when it comes to Patek/Journe/Lange, etc. It's more like buying freaking car than a wrist watch!😵💫)
@@j.burgess4459 true! I have a real soft spot for the weekly, quirky and cool, new school Patek 👌🏽
what's the price for the same model in platinum?
Couple of grand more.
@@watchpapi It seems the price is 43.000usd
@@juanpablo046 yeah, sounds about right. This was 39k USD and I think there’s been a price increase since then.
Excellent review!
All round production really good on this video, particularly sound. Regarding how does a man spend that much money on a watch…because he has an understanding wife that’s why!
You’re right there! 😜😂
Oh thank you so so much! I really have been trying to up production and improve on things like sound. So this makes me so happy to hear!
@@BrittPearceWatches and it shows 👏🏻💪🏻
@@watchpapi wish I had the same 🙄
the statement on how being a hobby and the way it skews what you think is so expensive is so true. 😂 i remember the days where i thought paying over $200 for a watch was nuts. those days are long gone ☠️
Ooohhhh!! How I enjoyed this one. Thanks 🤗
Idk!
Y'know I don't want one as it happens but the mans a sodding genius
@@BrittPearceWatches I agree FPJ is an important person in watch making, for many reasons. I try to put the brand, hype, money, any associations, who they trained with, who their daddy was etc. to one side when looking at a watch. Or say to myself "if this was made by a different brand, would I still enjoy it"? Pretty hard to do sometimes with these brands. FPJ doesn't leave me feeling very much of anything really... It's all subjective and I've never held one in the hand. Maybe one day I will and I'll change my mind 🤗
Wait, what salary are we talking about here? Cause i may be wrong but I did see a black Daytona in that watch roll.
There is something really sexy about that beating heart in gold. Great review Brit. Your passion for watches from a female perspective is always a breath of fresh air. Surely James will let you have a sneaky wear every now and then. ❤️
Of course!
Britt please show us yoir state of collection!
UwhHh, ALL that money, and you CAN'T EVEN GO SWIMMING WITH IT?!!
The dial looks like it is made of chocolate. I think that is a compliment...
But why doesn't it have a helium escape valve? I heard they are super useful.
It does…….. the helium escapes through the crown, it’s the same way the weather gets in 😜
A watch like this is a work of art ... and the price of a work of art is whatever somebody will pay for it.
Beautiful watch
Right?! 💕✨
