A shame that you weren’t at the Journe New York boutique event two weeks ago, I was invited there to showcase watch artworks and really wanted to meet you. Next time hopefully!
TB’s word smithing is top rate but in this case not correct. To describe the double barrel as an isochronism enhancement is a bit of a stretch. Isochronism is not the correct term to what mainspring torque can offer against gravitational issues. The amplitude arc differences from full, half, and 1/4 winding countermeasure for gravitational issues are all confined to the escapement. See my earlier comment if you’re curious. BTW, my sense too about you’re correct about the “why” in the ownership of this watch. Great pick. Great reason to own a handmade watch of this substance.
As long as I have been watching, you guys still manage to keep taking it up a notch. What an amazing display of this watch. Thanks for all you do for us Teddy and company!
Hi Teddy, the Chronometre Bleu is probably the most aesthetically beautiful watch I certainly have ever seen. It cannot be mistaken for anything else, it is unquestionably an F. P. Journe. It is to watchmaking what Beethoven's 9th symphony is to music; a one off masterpiece. I'll never own one but I can appreciate it non the less
Nice review Teddy. I first saw the CB at a RedBar NYC meetup in 2012, and I was struck by how beautiful the dial was and the gorgeous movement. On the wrist it has a very similar weight to Platinum, but with a blue grey luster that I hadn't seen in horology up until that time. I played with buying one, back when they were relatvely easily found at the boutique and even a few second hand pieces were available. I was fortunate to obtain one in late 2018 and it remains one of my favorite pieces in my collection. I attended a dinner right before the pandemic and met FP Journe's brother, he saw the CB on my wrist, grabbed my wrist and looked at the watch and leaned in to say to me, "Beautiful, never sell it!" I hear that the waitlist is over 12 years now. Cheers, Dr Jeff
Hey Jeff--I'm wondering if that CB you saw at RedBar NYC in '12 happened to be mine! I believe that's when I got mine and I took it to the old RedBar hangout at that time. I hope you and the family are well.
Absolutely gorgeous watch. I have to say that, if I could afford a 20k - 100k watch (which I can't and probably never will) I'd buy one of these over a Rolex any day.
I am not a watch aficionado but watching your videos has certainly raised my interest. Your videos are engaging, informative and with terrific visuals. If I am ever fortunate to buy a high end watch, I will use your channel as the reference point.
Your explanation of the mainspring torque affecting timekeeping made this video so valuable. Probably explains why watches keep better time when on wrist, as the power reserve/mainspring torque is continuously at its peak.
One of the best reviews I’ve seen on the brand. 👏🏽 I really appreciate your breakdown of the dial and movement components. I dream to own a F.P. Journe one day! 🤞🏽
Fantastic Much much better than nautilus or royal With Journe the price is merited and right I meet FP Journe this year at Geneva watch days, he is incredible and his art of watchmaking is amazing Just love his work and passion Hi from Saint Tropez Jeremy
The movement is mainly MACHINE-FINISHED, with a few hand-finishing touches. Any Journe expert will tell you that, and close examination under a loupe will reveal the machining marks. Still doesn’t stop it from being the most sought after independent watch though
$80-100k sounds inexpensive when compared to mass produced, truly hype watches from the likes of Patek, AP, and Rolex. As the masses begin to fully appreciate how special Journe is, this watch will become increasingly sought after. With such a low supply, there is only one way prices can go…and that’s up. Thanks for the review.
Just discovered the channel recently teddy, truly great stuff. The videos with you and Kevin have are tremendous as well. This Blue watch absolutely breathtaking. It’s a shame I likely will ever see one much less own one, but wow they are beautiful. Keep up the great work
I think Journe makes fantastic watches, don't want to take anything away from them but an industry insider basically told me a huge proportion of the hype comes from market manipulation from watchbox.
I am a huge fan of Francois Paul. First time I ever paid over msrp for a watch. Now have Elegante 48, and can’t believe I just got your Blue Souveraine Teddy!
Tremendous review and really enjoyed the coverage. So amazing to demystify a great work like this that most of us will never get to see or handle in person.
You do such great videos, Teddy! Absolutely floored I found this channel. I’m pretty new into watches and you have been instrumental. Just bought my first watch through your website so thank you!
This watch is a coveted FP Journe item. Rumor has it Journe won’t sell to some people, Vladimir Putin is rumored to be one, yet I saw a picture of him wearing this exact model. Fantastic review Teddy, mentioning the dial dial creation is poignant as the scrap level to get one perfect dial is very high. In general, dial making is often the highest in scrap rate, depending on the nature of construction and manufacture. It is a mesmerizing watch and the dial, while looking simple, is part of this models hallmark making it mesmerizing, even with the solid gold movement bridges, and design in tantalum case. Bravo
Love learning about these kinds of pieces. Can't say I wish there were more videos though. As much as I love seeing these watches, there's something less interesting about learning about watches that I and 99.999% of other people will never be able to acquire. Always cool info though.
This watch and the crazy ups it has had in the market (difficult for me to say for and against as well as it is just that wonderful of a piece) have made me realize that I need to be more diligent with "entry" level pieces that just make me say "One day" whenever I lay eyes on it.
Great video. I live a few blocks up the street from the FP Journe boutique in NYC and have been a frequent visitor inquiring about purchasing one of the watches only to have my name taken and to be told vaguely that I may be contacted at some point on the future. More recently, I finally met one of the sales agents (shout out to the lovely Danielle) who seemed prepared to let me sign up for a watch - I have two on my list - and I am told that somewhere in the latter half of 2023 I have a shot at getting a watch. Believe it or not, this thrilled me. (By the way, neither is the CB, which is impossible for ordinary folk to get.) I regularly attend the soirées thrown at the store and recently got to shake the hand of FP Journe himself. For someone used to acquiring material objects seamlessly (and generally immediately), this waiting game is an entirely new experience - something of a torture yet enjoyable nonetheless. All I ask, FP, is that you keep going - long enough for me to get my hands on one of these!
Keep the faith and stay in touch regularly. I wanted an Elegante called three boutiques got on a list ….. I emailed or called ( my salesperson )once a month with casual and pleasant inquiries. Almost 2 years later I had it on my wrist. Paying retail for an FPJ is a great value. Good luck!
The CB is my favourite F. P. Journe model, and the best looking model from the brand. I understand that the retail price is similar to a Calatrava, but the second hand prices have gone crazy. Fortunately there are other independents worth considering. How is the quality and finishing of the CB (and other F. P. Journe models) compared to watches from Lang & Heyne? A CB and a L&H Georg with white dial and blue hands would make a killer two piece collection!
This might be the first video that actually captures the beauty of that blue dial. Nice work. Now if you could please do the blue VC Overseas next ;) Actually Teddy and Co., you guys nailed this from top to bottom.
The blue in both watches are not the same, the Overseas’ blue is more electric, stronger blue, while the CB has much more reflection with the light, many more shades from dark almost black blue to light blue , plus floating numerals effect that is unique. The CB is clearly a superior watch.
IMO… This is a watch you buy to appreciate : 1. Its movement finishing 2. Exquisite case It is not the one to buy however for: 1. Dial quality 2. Extreme accuracy GS SBGY007, Omiwatari offers both which CB simply doesn’t. If it were up to me and I had that much fund, I would rather buy SBGY007 and Gronefeld 1941. Shall we look forward for Teddy to review Gronefeld models next then..? :)
Another great video teddy! I wanted to know your opinion on the meisterstuck from Montblanc. I fell in love with a few, but i don't see a lot of people's input on them. Are they worth the money? Thx and keep up the great work!
After getting my Elegante 48 found out (by the video) Karim Ojjeh inspired FP to make the 48! And you won’t believe I went to Menlo College with Karim who is a close friend of FP! And he podiumed at Le Mans!
Hi Teddy, I may be in a minority here but I noticed of all the videos you have made, none dedicated to large face watches say 50mm or larger? For some reason, I have always love large watches. My favorite company is Greubel Forsey. I feel it would be a cool video to see what the industry offers in very large faces covering various budgets. Thank you! PS Love your videos!
Have a look at Horage please. Their Multiply line starts at 2.100 CHF and boasts hand made, swiss made, in house movement, 65 hour power reserve, small seconds complication, bracelet, tungsten rotor. The Autark line also has some great value! 3.500 CHF for a titanium watch, integrated bracelet, smalls seconds, power reserve indicator and big date.
@@mattstringer5828 I honestly haven't seen anything that competes with them in terms of value. Their work appears to be in line with what you'll get from top tier heritage brands.
Super cool watch. But would be remiss if I didn’t report that incorporating a lossier inner terminal, an overcoil hairspring, and dynamic poising are three known ways to enhance isochronism. I am not aware that the JP Journe CB has any of these engineering feats built into this model. Incorporating a double barrel mainspring is news to me (in terms of how it can better defeat the effects of gravity through the X2 torque) that I’d like to learn more about. I really have my doubts..
I passed up an opportunity to purchase one of these years ago for $19,500 because at the time that was more than I typically would spend on a watch... I'm now considering picking one up in the $90k+ range because its simply that incredible and I just can't let my past mistake go.
Teddy, any pull with AnOrdain? Tried to purchase a watch this morning. As you know I am a true collector. All models were sold out within a minute. I am sure they will appear on the Grey market as soon as they are delivered. Thanks
Waited 2 years for this watch and then F.P Journe pulled the contracts of all the A.D's in favor of the boutiques. Thankfully, I had purchased two others. Is the dial made by the same company that provides the blue dial to the Vacheron Overseas? Long time rumor. On another note, I will be attempting to purchase a plumb dial AnOrdain tomorrow. Wish me luck. LOL
The more I learn about these stunning watches I always get the hope I can afford it and then the price tag stabs me in the heart with every google search...
Very good review, you delivered on the F.P. Journe story
A shame that you weren’t at the Journe New York boutique event two weeks ago, I was invited there to showcase watch artworks and really wanted to meet you. Next time hopefully!
Kev…. Teddy always delivers

Says the guy that just care about Journe appreciation prices 😅
This channel has greatly helped me develop an appreciation for so many different watch brands and watch history. Keep up the great work!
Terrific to see F.P. Journe on this channel! The two spheres of my watch passion unite!
As long as I have been watching, you guys still manage to keep taking it up a notch. What an amazing display of this watch. Thanks for all you do for us Teddy and company!
I think I speak for the entire team when I say we appreciate your constant support, my friend.

I was fortunate to meet his brother at the LA boutique. I agree with him, don’t sell. Thanks for the comment and enjoy this wonderful watch, Jeff.
Hey Jeff--I'm wondering if that CB you saw at RedBar NYC in '12 happened to be mine! I believe that's when I got mine and I took it to the old RedBar hangout at that time. I hope you and the family are well.
Probably the most beautiful blue I’ve ever seen in my life.
A beautiful watch for sure.

This one is manual winding, but you’re right. Leaving your automatic watch sits in a drawer for weeks is not making any good. They are built to run.
Ahh if it isnt my Favorite TH-camr , Teddy Balbasaur !! Learnt so much about watches through your channel and I'm greatful for that !
OK Ciao!

The more I look at that dial, the more I love it!
I have been trying watch every video Teddy has release in the last 3 days. I have to say Teddy does a great job. Thanks for your time

That’s not what the boutique manager says, it is hand finished, not sure from where you got this info.

Teddy has come so far!

Great commentary on a great watch and watch maker.

Always interesting and nicely created videos. It is a nice looking time piece, but I’d prefer an IWC Portugieser over the Chronometer Bleu.
Didn’t want this watch before, but now I do. Damn.
Exquisite. So much to like about this FPJ timepiece
This Christmas season, I would like to loop a F.P. Journe Chronomètre Bleu movement video in place of the Yule Log..
The Chronometre Bleu is beautiful.
Same dial maker as the VC blue. Best blue dials on the market!
Journey owns the dial factory

Nice video. I thought isochronism was always the reason for a double barrel.
I had a chance to buy one from a boutique when they first came out and didn’t do it. So sad because I love it

Loving the channel! F.P. is an incredible watchmaker, honored to have learned more about the movement and history. Keep up the great work!
phenomenal watch. but man look at the bend on that strap - FPJ should put this on a deployant
You can buy one…
