Coming from California I find roads like Rt 9 a bit weird. They almost look like interstates but they have traffic lights and have access to shopping centers and other businesses. Where I used to live in LA it's either freeways or side streets. They have state routes in the city (i.e. Santa Monica Blvd which is CA State Route 2 or Lakewood Blvd which is CA State Route 39) but they look like main thoroughfares and never have highway signage.
