So, here's the plan. We all join the Screen Actor's Guild. We then ALL apply for the role, claiming that we "identify" as lesbian women. When they show us the door, claiming that we are female (or lesbian), the we file a class-action lawsuit against them for discrimination.
Here's the thing; while all of this may technically be true, I think that it's different in the world of acting. When a casting director is searching for an actor, they are looking for someone who embodies, or is able to embody, the best. And unfortunately, there are a lot of characteristics that people cannot change about themselves to fit a role. For example, while technically a man could audtion for the role of Sleeping Beauty, it's most likely going to go to a woman unless that man can somehow pull off appearing as a woman convincingly. It's why in movies, unless it's for a specific reason, on-screen family members have to look similar. Luke couldn't have been played by Sam L Jackson for him to fit into the white family tree that fit properly with Leia. I'd never say that things are impossible; certainly straight actors can play gay and vice versa, as much as these creators may disagree, there is definitely reasoning as to why a white man can't fill the role that is written to be a black woman unless he can do so convincingly.
What about for a historical movie or show? Or for a pre existing character? Cause wouldn’t casting someone to Play George Washington, Martin Luther King Jr., Queen Elizabeth require a bit of elimination since they would want to hire someone who is the same sex or race or right age of that character. This doesn’t really apply to religion, sexuality, heritage, or genetics. But you did mention race, sex, and age as well.
GabethyRubenstein Sexuality doesn’t count though. Your skin color is an obvious physical trait that you can’t change. Gender(unless that person has had surgery to the point where you could believe that they are the gender they wish to portray), is also an obvious physical characteristic. But you can’t just walk up to someone and say you look gay, or strait, etc. Because how is a straight or gay person supposed to look. We have had many gay characters play straight characters and vice versa.

You mean... right now? The 2010s and beyond? Because it sure as fuck wasn't in the 80s, 90s, or 2000s (anything prior to that is hilariously out of the question, gay people were afraid of being fucking murdered). Sure, we started making strides in changing discriminatory attitudes at the time, but society was still very much against gay people for most of those decades. There was most certainly not a powerful call throughout society for casting more gay actors like there is today.

I believe omitting actresses from applying based on sexual orientation is against the Worker's Discrimination Act, which is supposed to protect workers from being rejected/hired based on age, race, or sexuality alone. If any straight women apply, they'd need to make up another reason why they got rejected, like they "didn't fit their vision".
Berlanti and others are too stubborn to learn from this and make the correct decisions for season 2. Thinking the season was a success is their first problem.

I've seen a lot of criticism of this show by many youtubers. Strangely enough, there's a consensus that are suggesting how to fix the show more so than cancellation. I'm leaning towards cancellation. The CW doesn't need anymore trash fires.
How about they use creative writing to incorporate Rose's departure in to the show? Kill off Kate, have someone like Sarah Lance adopt the mantle of Batwoman to find out who killed Kate and resolve the whole thing with Batman coming back.
Anyone else hearing about the horror theory that Rose quit around when Lucusfilms announce an all female Star Wars project. Bets that Rose will appear in some way or paranoia just at full altitude?
The timing is the only reason people are thinking that but really Rose quit as soon as the final episode aired so that seems like it had more to do with it than another opportunity she's trying to jump into.

It's not about "only a gay actor can portray a gay character". It's about putting a LGBT actor into a main role in an action-oriented series, playing an LGBT character. The only one I can think of is Sara from Legends of Tomorrow, which does a far better job than Batwoman, which is undoubtedly a bad show, but not because of the decision to have an LGBT actor in the role. You're free to dismiss this whole idea as pure novelty, and to a certain extent it is (but no more or less than literally any other role that's meant to get people watching), but I'd bet money that's because you've never really had to imagine what it'd be like to feel represented on such a basis.

There is an aspect to this problem that you have left out: generally, when adapting a comic book for television or film, you want to cast an actor who bears some resemblance to the character. So that already puts a limit on your casting options: you have to find the best available actor who looks the part, not just the best available actor. The more additional qualifications you add, the fewer options you have, until you find that you have no good option. When they cast Ruby Rose, they already did not cast someone who did not look the part: Kate Kane in the comics is a very fair-skinned long-haired natural redhead (that is not a wig in the comics). Heres a scenario for the new season (if it actually airs) How about, BatWahman left and stopped caring about the city and it’s people or she went (no pun intended) bat shit crazy for a few months and that she finally realized the errors of her way after the death of Batman. We can have more villains and corrupt cops running the town until a new vigilante comes through, Batman which is played by David Mazouz from a different universe or whatever. He takes over the Wayne enterprises, and reclaims the Mansion. Now, he could be from this earth and got kidnapped to another universe to be Batman and save Gotham somewhere else growing up or just another Bruce Wayne all together but it is better than what these hacks were doing in this series. So, here's the plan. We all join the Screen Actor's Guild. We then ALL apply for the role, claiming that we "identify" as lesbian women. When they show us the door, claiming that we are female (or lesbian), the we file a class-action lawsuit against them for discrimination.
Here's the thing; while all of this may technically be true, I think that it's different in the world of acting. When a casting director is searching for an actor, they are looking for someone who embodies, or is able to embody, the best. And unfortunately, there are a lot of characteristics that people cannot change about themselves to fit a role. For example, while technically a man could audtion for the role of Sleeping Beauty, it's most likely going to go to a woman unless that man can somehow pull off appearing as a woman convincingly. It's why in movies, unless it's for a specific reason, on-screen family members have to look similar. Luke couldn't have been played by Sam L Jackson for him to fit into the white family tree that fit properly with Leia. I'd never say that things are impossible; certainly straight actors can play gay and vice versa, as much as these creators may disagree, there is definitely reasoning as to why a white man can't fill the role that is written to be a black woman unless he can do so convincingly.
What about for a historical movie or show? Or for a pre existing character? Cause wouldn’t casting someone to Play George Washington, Martin Luther King Jr., Queen Elizabeth require a bit of elimination since they would want to hire someone who is the same sex or race or right age of that character. This doesn’t really apply to religion, sexuality, heritage, or genetics. But you did mention race, sex, and age as well.
GabethyRubenstein Sexuality doesn’t count though. Your skin color is an obvious physical trait that you can’t change. Gender(unless that person has had surgery to the point where you could believe that they are the gender they wish to portray), is also an obvious physical characteristic. But you can’t just walk up to someone and say you look gay, or strait, etc. Because how is a straight or gay person supposed to look. We have had many gay characters play straight characters and vice versa.

You mean... right now? The 2010s and beyond? Because it sure as fuck wasn't in the 80s, 90s, or 2000s (anything prior to that is hilariously out of the question, gay people were afraid of being fucking murdered). Sure, we started making strides in changing discriminatory attitudes at the time, but society was still very much against gay people for most of those decades. There was most certainly not a powerful call throughout society for casting more gay actors like there is today.
Setting the politics aside the run down on why she left is easy.
1: Almost maimed for life.
2: Massively demanding schedule requiring huge resources of physicality.
3: Shit ratings.
4: Linked to a divisive show.
5: No benefit for her career.
The only reason she’d stay is money, and for a show with these ratings there ain’t enough in the pot.

I believe omitting actresses from applying based on sexual orientation is against the Worker's Discrimination Act, which is supposed to protect workers from being rejected/hired based on age, race, or sexuality alone.

You have saved me hours of my life I would have lost had I watched Batwoman myself.
I've seen a lot of criticism of this show by many youtubers. Strangely enough, there's a consensus that are suggesting how to fix the show more so than cancellation. I'm leaning towards cancellation. The CW doesn't need anymore trash fires.
How about they use creative writing to incorporate Rose's departure in to the show? Kill off Kate, have someone like Sarah Lance adopt the mantle of Batwoman to find out who killed Kate and resolve the whole thing with Batman coming back.
Anyone else hearing about the horror theory that Rose quit around when Lucusfilms announce an all female Star Wars project. Bets that Rose will appear in some way or paranoia just at full altitude?
The timing is the only reason people are thinking that but really Rose quit as soon as the final episode aired so that seems like it had more to do with it than another opportunity she's trying to jump into.

If a show openly stated that they were only considering straight actors to play in straight roles, people would lose their damn minds. There would be boycotts, protests, and petitions started to cancel the show. So why is it ok to openly state that you're only considering homosexual actors for a homosexual role?
Hmm... maybe because of the whole centuries of oppression thing that only really began to die down in the last decade? The same oppression that most certainly manifested in the acting world for generations? Maybe? Perhaps? Sorry if that's "unfair", but I'm sure the poor disenfranchised straights will get over it. God knows everyone's gunning for the Batwoman role.
There's also another level to this whole thing that I don't really expect Thorias or his audience to get. It's not about "only a gay actor can portray a gay character". It's about putting a LGBT actor into a main role in an action-oriented series, playing an LGBT character. You know how often that happens? Oh yeah, pretty much never. The only one I can think of is Sara from Legends of Tomorrow, which does a far better job than Batwoman, which is undoubtedly a bad show, but not because of the decision to have an LGBT actor in the role.
You're free to dismiss this whole idea as pure novelty, and to a certain extent it is (but no more or less than literally any other role that's meant to get people watching), but I'd bet money that's because you've never really had to imagine what it'd be like to feel represented on such a basis.

There is an aspect to this problem that you have left out: generally, when adapting a comic book for television or film, you want to cast an actor who bears some resemblance to the character. So that already puts a limit on your casting options: you have to find the best available actor who looks the part, not just the best available actor. The more additional qualifications you add, the fewer options you have, until you find that you have no good option. When they cast Ruby Rose, they already did not cast someone who did not look the part: Kate Kane in the comics is a very fair-skinned long-haired natural redhead (that is not a wig in the comics). Ruby Rose is a relatively swarthy short-haired brunette. You can see how bad the resemblance is: blogdesuperheroes.es/wp-content/plugins/BdSGallery/BdSGaleria/70008_big.jpg. (Incidentally, she is also not the same ethno-religious background as Kate Kane; I don't think that should matter, but they are certainly being hypocritical.) Above all, she cannot act. They simply cannot afford to narrow their options this much.

I also heard from some Sacramento news site she also hated spending so much time in Vancouver and was not a happy camper on set. It sounds about right as Rachel Skarsten and her other costars seemed to be making little promo videos and interveiws and I dont recall seeing Ruby in one since the show premiered
The reason so many crippling injuries keep happening on set is because there's no fight choreographer or stunt coordinator present to ensure actors and crew don't get hurt. But I concur that there's much more to her departure than we're being told.

For 20 episodes I was thrown off as to who the scrawny boy with the 90s haircut was only to realize that was supposed to be the actress playing the character who in the comics was nearly as tall as Bruce and physically impressive. Ruby Rose would be a better stand in for Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic than a stand in for Kate Kane. Thank goodness she gone, now go cast someone like Gina Carano.
Heres a scenario for the new season (if it actually airs) How about, BatWahman left and stopped caring about the city and it’s people or she went (no pun intended) bat shit crazy for a few months and that she finally realized the errors of her way after the death of Batman. We can have more villains and corrupt cops running the town until a new vigilante comes through, Batman which is played by David Mazouz from a different universe or whatever. He takes over the Wayne enterprises, and reclaims the Mansion. Now, he could be from this earth and got kidnapped to another universe to be Batman and save Gotham somewhere else growing up or just another Bruce Wayne all together but it is better than what these hacks were doing in this series. Make it happen CW!
