    I have the Light Phone 2, I really HATE what "smartphones" and Social media has done to people. I extra hate the "hold on I just have to replay to so and so" excuse when you have a visitor over. People can't hold their attention span for longer that 30 seconds anymore, I thought that was a joke OR exaggeration till I noticed my family members zoning out on me. Forget about intermediate to deep conversations, that seems to break brains so I have to keep to superficial conversations. I only get deep conversations when I am at my Fellowship group (Christian circle). I guess I never got bit with the social media apps cause I hate taking pictures (that knocks out IG) life is too boring for Facebook post, I don't understand snap chat, and ticktok content is way too short for me to learn on. I can say I am weaning myself off of TH-cam, I let myself get on during lunch.

    • @LauraMalvoyante
      @LauraMalvoyante  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I understand this all too well. I really miss deep conversations and I honestly can't remember the last time I had one without someone picking up their phone while I was talking to them. I use TH-cam as a replacement for my TV time and only watch it at lunch or after dinner. I stopped using streaming services because I feel like most newer TV shows are designed for people with bad attention spans. Too many jump cuts and flashing lights to keep the attention of viewers (this hapens on TH-cam too).

    Switching to a "dumb" phone has one huge stipulation: make sure your phone works with the active digital cellular network of your carrier. Reason: many cellphone carriers phased out 2G and even sometimes 3G digital cellular service, and that could make your phone effectively useless. I'd recommend checking to see if your phone supports Voice over LTE (VoLTE), because that means it will work with the LTE networks used by current cellphone carriers.

    In some countries, those BlackBerry OS/BB10 and most of older dumbphones are still usable, even in some countries like in my country where they kept their 2G network running but only the 3G being shut down, and both Nokia (HMD) and Samsung (with its only basic phone from 2015 that they still being sold) are still selling those 2G dumbphones.

    • @LauraMalvoyante
      @LauraMalvoyante  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes in France the 2g network is still up and is scheduled to end at the end of 2025. But like most plans it will probably get pushed since many people see it as an environmental disaster to render perfectly working phones as trash. I still use my 2g devices (BlackBerry included). I think shutting 3g would be a better decision too.

    I made a conscious effort a few years ago to step away from smart phones for a few years. I had found that I would be paying attention to it instead of the person that is in front of me, and that wasn't acceptable to me. Now I have a smart phone, but I keep no social media on it at all, and refrain from checking texts unless it is a scheduled downtime
    Also good to note never take a phone not matter the reason into the bedroom. Don't keep a charger there, don't bring it in for a nap, don't use it for an alarm. Don't allow it into the bedroom. It is a trap. That will ruin your sleep and feed media addictions and remove boundaries of when people should contact you.

    • @LauraMalvoyante
      @LauraMalvoyante  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is great advice. I need to get an alarm clock because I do have my phone in the bedroom. I am struggling to cut out social media but I am really trying. I never thought my smartphone was such a problem but after switching to a dumb phone I still struggle to stay away from it.

      As for 2g, I am based in France and they plan on phasing out 2g by the end of 2026. By then I will hopefully be able to manage my addiction but who knows. I think in the states most people use T-mobile with Punkt but I don’t know how long 2g will be supported. When I go back to visit my family in the states I will take my Nokia 6300 since it is 4g but it is still too smart for my liking. I’m also looking to try the Light Phone 2.

    • @arthurwhittle7106
      @arthurwhittle7106 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I reached out to Punkt about using the 01 in the USA. They let me know that 2G is being discontinued here in April, and that there will be no carrier for it. (Some further digging told me this is correct; T-mobile is the last 2G carrier, and their 2G service ends on April 2nd.) Punkt referred me to their 02 model, and I will look at it, along with the other you mentioned. This is not as easy as I thought. I may end up getting the Gabb phone 3.

    • @LauraMalvoyante
      @LauraMalvoyante  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That sucks for the 2g. The punkt mp02 is a bit expensive in my opinion but it is a good dumb phone. There are a lot of kosher phones that fall in the dumb phone spectrum like the Mindful phone.

  • @orangeyellow-me1pz
    @orangeyellow-me1pz 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I don't think You're thinking about these phones correctly. A lot of the phones you mentioned are feature phones. What you've discovered is not everyone needs a smartphone. This is something ive been saying since 2005. I definitely could've told you not to get the Blackberry 😂. There's a reason those were called crack erries.
    You have to make the decision to control yourself because as you said yourself, you need to have a smartphone today. Then again, I don't have the same problem that you have in that I do not like facebook or Twitter or instagram. I only use whatsapp to message someone when they message me. My picture of myself is from 2016 on there. I care that little for social media.

    • @LauraMalvoyante
      @LauraMalvoyante  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When I did this video I was not looking as classifying feature phones from minimalist phones. I was a crackberry addict back in the day and I would be today if blackberry was still putting out devices. As for social media I am learning to have willpower but undoing years of bad habits takes time. I live far away from my family and friends and the only way I could feel connected was watching them on social media. No that I’m older and have friends locally I find I no longer need this. I currently only use Messenger and WhatsApp. I am late but I am realizing that you are right, we don’t need smartphones. I just feel like a bit of a loser since nobody calls or texts me and the human contact is lacking. This is a genuine societal problem though.

    • @orangeyellow-me1pz
      @orangeyellow-me1pz 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LauraMalvoyante you definitely shouldn't feel like a loser just because of a lack of a huge group of people though. All you need is one or 2 good friends. I understand if you feel as though you're addicted to social media though. They have a whole army of psychologists and maybe even sociologists just to ensure that their products are addictive. I'm just a weirdo that doesn't get it.

      I'm in this picture and I don't like it... Screen time average 6h with Galaxy fold. I decided to try the smart watch lte route. I get a work calendar, whatsapp, calls, text messages, music, audiobooks. Speech to text is great.
      Small screen, so web browser is too painful except in real need. Games are useless. All health trackings and activity alerts off.
      I removed half of the strap and carry it in pocket.
      When calling, I have the volume at lowest and hold it next to my ear like a tiny phone.

    Have you looked at Hisense phones? Some of their models offer monochromatic e-ink displays. I saw you mention the Boox Palma non-phone e-ink reader in another video.
