I believe a big problem for many of us is our obssesive-thinking tendencies. So we switch from one obsession to another one. When I "master" one thing, another one takes its place.
Salut 👋 I switched to a dumbphone based on S30+ as well (Nokia 3210) It's a relief but I sometimes also feel like an alien from Mars. Seeing everyone in trams and busses being glued to their screens, doomscrolling rapidly... It's kinda strange to observe this You're so right, money isn't everything. Health, both mental and physical, is much more important. Je te souhaite beaucoup de bonheur Viele Grüße aus Deutschland ☺️
I feel like an alien too! I also feel like I've awoken from the Matrix and everyone else is still plugged in. A lot of people are critical of the S30+ operating system but as someone who is an addict, I find it perfect. I enjoy having just the basics but still having 4G call quality. My goal is to help inform fellow addicts as well as educate younger people that there are alternative lifestyles besides living behind a screen. It's not easy but life is meant to be lived.
I've recently started attempting this journey myself. I factory reset my 14 pro max and only keep WhatsApp, banking, emails, Google Maps and Spotify. I average 20 minutes a day on my phone, and that's the lowest I can go without removing Spotify. However, I do often relapse my doomscrolling social media, either on my iPad or laptop. However, 2 hours a day is a lot better than the 17+ hours I was investing before, so I consider that a small win. One of the things I also bought was a Sony PSP and a Steam Deck for on the go distractions, so now I can actually do something I enjoy
That's really good. I never got below 20 minutes a day unless I used a really dumbphone like my Barbie Phone. The PSP is a great companion device. I use my Boox Palma which greatly reduces the temptation to doom scroll or waste time on TH-cam.
I can relate to a lot of things you said . I have become very frustrated by how much time I stare at my phone (I have various chronic illnesses) it also affects my mental health (I’ve a history of depression anyway ) I bought the new Barbie phone(which I mentioned on that video ) I want to achieve more , read proper books again and do arts and crafts and things and not just stare at my phone . I am in my forties so I remember life before phones took such a hold over people . I miss the 90s with great fondness and sadness that life isn’t that simple anymore . I know there were Nokias and other phones in the 90s but we were still in the moment . We didn’t always need to be contactable . I find it so hard that everything in life seems to need to be done online now . Shopping , banking , people want emails not old fashioned letters . It’s just reached a point for me where it’s all too much . Here’s hoping my new HMD Barbie phone will help me .Good luck with your digital minimalism 😊
Thanks for leaving another lovely comment. Yes i agree with being overwhelmed about always having to be connected. People expect you to reply right away to every message or notification. I miss sending letters and postcards. I should really pick up this habit again when traveling. The Barbie phone has been great for me to learn to disconnect. I know life will never be like it was but I believe there sould be a more livable balance. I'm really sad being in a room where all my relatives are on their phones rather than talking to each other.
Hey Laura, I love the level of your videos and the productivity inspiration you generate. Please don't stop making content, the quality and effort you put into it is highly valued!
I've been wanting to get a dumb phone and off social media for awhile. Recently I made a big step with my Google Pixel 8 and used the accessibility feature to turn the phone to black and white. Now I have it set to color blind mode so I can still watch TH-cam without too much of an annoyance for skin color haha. And then i actually made some progress and uninstalled Instagram! Wild how much extra time feels to be creeping in throughout the day. I still use Snapchat to talk with some friends but I try to limit my time there. I am very much looking forward to getting to the light phone 3 in my hands. Hopefully they integrate Spotify and WhatsApp.
@@Contra7311 that's great. It is a step by step process. I deactivated my Instagram and Facebook a couple months ago and it felt amazing not to be stuck on them anymore. I am using my Boox Palma instead of a smartphone for the moment and it has really curved my TH-cam and Reddit usage. I am also looking forward to the LP3 release. For now I am using the Barbie phone 😊
Your video resonated with me on such a deep level. Your battle with visual impairment truly struck a chord and reflected my own experiences and feelings. Thank you for sharing such a powerful and relatable message. Moments like these remind me of the profound impact that genuine content can have.
I have been following your journey for quite a while and I just want to say CONGRATULATIONS on going this far ! Being a digital minimalism is definitely not easy in this modern world and your videos are very inspiring to those who want to pursue the goal of being more present offline. Please keep making these types of videos 🙏🏻
Thank you for sharing your journey. It's really inspiring. I deactivated my FB a few months ago and feel so much better! Thankfully I don't have Twitter or TikTok.
First step is to try to find a device you could be comforatbel using. Also check for phones that they have good accessibility features to enlarge text or activate text to speech. I like phones with physical buttons but everyone is different.

Definitely. I am someone who obsessively over thinks many things 😂

Thank you. I'm glad others can relate. I am here to be honest and true to myself.
I'm so stoked that someday I'll get to say "I remember when she was just starting out!"
That's so kind. I hope you're right. Otherwise it will be "I wonder what happened to her" 🤔

Thank you for this I'm thinking of starting my own digital minimalistic journey knowing that the both of us are visually impaired. How do I start
