This performance is absolutely classic and important. The Gods were present in this performance. John Lennon, Yoko Ono (singing one of her most beautiful songs, ‘’Now or Never’’), Wayne ‘’Tex’’ Gabriel (one of the greatest guitarists on planet Earth), and Stan Bronstein (sax), both from Elephant's Memory Band. By the way, this was the last time the Elephant's Memory Band played with John & Yoko! And surprisingly, we still have at the end, the great Jerry Lewis singing and playing ‘’Give Peace a Chance”, with John, Yoko, and the band! Many thanks to you who posted this golden video. Much health and peace to you, friend! Peace in the world! Goodbye to all wars! Goodbye to fascism!!
Marathon? No, he never did a marathon of any sort. The marathon is a run of 26.2 miles or 42.195kms. He did however, to the telethon. Never a running race. He would have collapsed and barfed his brains out if he tried running more than a few hundred metres.
Fascinating to me because Jerry was no hippie. A very conservative guy singing "give peace a chance" quite enthusiastically. Maybe just showbiz instincts. Or maybe because his son was sent to Vietnam.
John and Yoko were two peas in a pod. Their message was clear. They communicated it in simple terms. Yoko’s line in her song “ are we going to keep shooting those fighting for change” (paraphrasing) was quite foreboding about John’s future.
I missed all this. I was 17 at the time. As soon as the Beatles broke up and started fighting I lost interest. I didn’t like seeing them on American talk shows. They seemed out of place and awkward. It’s like your parents divorced and you turn a deaf ear. I came back to them after getting tickets to a McCarney concert in 2016. I fell in love with them all over again. I love the old footage and most all of their discography. They are amazing. You never saw them in the U. S. media when they were together. But now I realize that them being all over US talk shows was Klein’s work. John Lennon had a huge U.S. media following. I am seeing that now.
Easy to miss... I was having a discussion on a site with a guy who said that "Paul McCartney has done a LOT more shouting and screaming than Van Morrison has"... and it struck me as strange. So went to look it up and Van Morrison has done more than 2500 performances with McCartney just reaching 942 as a solo in 2023. So I looked up the other Beatles and I think George did about 3 dozen and Lennon about a dozen performances post Beatles. So yes this is a RARE moment indeed.. and it kind of makes you chasten a bit when we hold our great rock eminences up as somehow the real rock ribbed denizens of music and performance but many people look at Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift or Demi Lovato as kind of amateur hour singing sprites when they have logged hundreds of full fledged concerts on the road. To watch here as Yoko Ono struggles through some half scribbled idea for a song she had.. taking up VALUABLE time during the last hour of live time Lennon spent on stage in his LIFE.. the mind just boggles. Life is short people. There are people who took fans money and spent 45 minutes tuning their guitars on stage giving no thought to the people in the bleachers and many of those people are gone now.... never to sing another note. And the time wasted on the way is just mind boggling. Funny how some of these guys who were around and in their 20s or 30s back then and couldn't be BOTHERED to get out there and perform when they were young can't be gotten off the stage when they can barely sing in their 70s & 80s. Youth is wasted on the young. Get out there and do it people! NOW!
What year was this made? Did Jerry hate all rock bands? He gave the same "Why did you book this god damn act for my show?" Expression to KISS in 79 just like he did Lennon.
Watched the clip,so embarrassing. Lennon never had the nerve to tell Yoko she could not sing and was talentless. She was his substitute mother. He even referred to her as mother. He wanted her to be mummy .She knew this and used it to her advantage. She was clever, like all good mums she never left him out of her sight.
Have you listened to her song "Mrs Lennon"? You should really listen to her lyrics! She may not be Celine Dion, but her lyrics is what's important to her!

I guess they were trying to help, but this modern culture where spoiled, out of touch celebrities tell us how to live (while they live otherwise) is sickening. I don't need a fat-headed snob in a protected world to tell me how to live. How about a little humility first? Lennon and the Beatles started talking about things when it wasn't cool. So I respect them for that. I think "Imagine" and "Give Peace a Chance" get a lot more attention than they deserve. Lennon had much better songs on "Double Fantasy". I'm a huge Beatles fan and in my 5000+ songs, I don't even have Give Peace a Chance. It's an annoying song. I thought "Jealous Guy" was a particularly touching song.
unfortunately, most people today feel like you do; that there is no room in our world today for somebody like Lennon, and that he should have kept his feelings to himself, kept his mouth shut. Thats probably why he gets killed in the 80s (the Reagan era). And now, The world today is filled with these slack jawed yokels who belive in Donald Trump, and who believe that the WWF is real fights, and who follow that kind of stuff blindly, and who hate anything different from their view of how things should be. Thats why there will never be anything like the Beatles again. This is why entertainment is so shallow now, because of "fat headed snobs" like youself. By the way, for many people of those times, Lennon was more "in touch" than almost anybody in history, and thats one of the reasons for the Beatles phenomenal success. PS....am I annoying you too? Yes, goodbye to fascism and communism-two sides of the same totalitarian coin of tyranny.

John praying for Ringo to appear
It's gotta Sexual Chocolate feel too it
Never heard Yoko actually try singing. I've only heard her banshee thing. Better than I expected.
I must've seen this live. I was conscious of him and remember watching him on Mike Douglas that year.
I must've scurried out of the living room when yoko started singing.
Haven’t seen it before and I thought that I’d seen it all
The only Beatle, the only icon of his time (McCartney, Dylan, Elvis, Sinatra, whoever) who tried to stop the Vietnam War. Makes him#1
A song that can put mankind & humanity at a equal life of everyday living on this earth.
Ageless song of love & peace.

George Harrison deserves credit for barring Joko from the Concert for Bagledesh. Jerry should have barred her from the Telethon.
John looks a bit rough here

They did the MDA TELETHON not a "marathon" Joseph Consoli
I have to wonder how many hit songs we missed because some crazy fan silenced his musical genius

The only time people ever called Jerry for a refund.
