@exodus21v20 LOL, You obviously have no clue. Listen to Sweet Home again, closely this time, In Birmingham THEY (not we) love the Governor, Boo! Boo! Boo! And to most normal younger people at that time in the 70's that "racist symbolism" you're referring to simply meant a spirit of rebellion, much like the long hair, not racism, heritage, not hate. Did hate groups use it? Yes, but they also use other symbols like the stars and stripes and they really have no right to EITHER.

A group of my friends and I listened to this song for the first time in 1973. When it was over we simply stared at each other for a while and said damn... here I am 47 years later watching you have the same reaction. Priceless!!! I would try to give you a list of songs but they are one of those rare groups that every song tells a story and it is told well. Off the top of my head I'd say, Gimme Three Steps, Call Me the Breeze, You Got That Right, I know a Little but there are another 25 or so that are just as good.

    • @borotone

I went to one of the final concerts they’re probably ever going to have and it was amazing. They paid tribute to the members who passed on and they had Free Bird as their final song. Johnny VanZant, the current lead singer and brother of the original singer, Ronnie, stepped away from the microphone and let Ronnies recording finish out the song. One of the best nights in my whole life right there.

(My recommendation is the 2007 Rockpalast performance- The sound is better than the 1973 live performance that's also on TH-cam, although the energy on the 73 version is also great)
Here's a few other things for you to check out:
Robin Trower - "Bridge of Sighs", "Day of the Eagle", "For Earth Below"
Masters of Reality - "John Brown", "Kill The King"
Bob Dylan - "Subterranean Homesick Blues", "Maggie's farm", "The Times They Are a' Changin'"

I wasn't sure if I could watch any reactions to Lynard Skynard. That was my husband's favorite band. We met Christmas Eve 85. He said Free bird was his life anthem. I said 'so I guess that means you're gonna leave me?? BYE' He said no he wasn't. I said 'I have a life anthem too What's Love Got to Do With It'
We got married Mar 28 1986
    He died Mar 6 2009
My youngest son got married on his dad's birthday Oct 28 2013
I never know how I will react when I hear one of their songs. Sometimes I laugh or cry. I might want to put my foot through the stereo. It's been 12yrs now. It does get easier....sometimes

One of the few three lead guitar player bands in rock. Massive number of people on stage including backup singers, keyboards etc.... I do recommend Oakland live in 77. It was right before the plane crash that ended the original band.

Some one suggested Edgar Winter Frankenstein mind blowing but must be the Old Grey Whistle Test appearance. It was a music program on BBC that had some incredible firsts as they introduced new music that did not fit the pop music scene.People like David Bowie to mention just the best. Lynard Skynard was another one with one of the most requested revisits 30 years anniversary of program.

Not on the studio version. They didn't always have 3 guitars. Started out with just Allen and Gary, Ed on bass. Then Leon came back and Ed became the third guitar. Ed left in 1975 and there was about a year before Steve joined.

Wats best about it is it shows music is something else. He just explained wat a freebird is that whole time bro. Wvery strum every chord was feeling was emotion and hardwork and blood and sweat but also happiness and sunshine and freedom.... idk man this whole song is just a vibe in itself. The music makes you move not physically but it literally vibrates you or is it just me?
