Eight Days (Cancelled) E3 2006 Teaser Trailer was a fucking CGI shit and fake gameplay made by people who tell lies LMAO man corruption in video game back then were mad!!
Fun fact, this conference was delayed by about 45 minutes from its original start time. I like to imagine they were arguing about the price during that time.
as much as this was an absolute meme of a press conference at the time, it's amazing how much this is just a actual press conference aimed at people in the industry or interested in it rather than just a series of adverts for new games. E3 really dug it's own grave by becoming more of a show and less of a conference.
I loved when E3 still curtailed some to the industry folk. I liked getting a glimpse behind the curtain. There were a period where E3 presentations were better than video games. I miss those times.
There was a time when press conferences were simple that - conferences for the press. They were presentations directed towards journalists rather then directly to gamers who would either relay the information back to readers in magazines or gaming websites, or use snippets of the presentation alongside b-roll to make short news clips about it. It wasn’t expected that people would actually watch the presentations in their entirety so they had a much slower, laid back vibe, with lots of time spent talking about sales figures. To be honest, I think over all else it was probably Apple and Steve Jobs who popularized the kind of direct-to-consumer product presentations that E3 eventually evolved into.
Yeah, so on point. that's exactly the downfall of e3. Not the market and the 2020 "thing". But a change of vibe and the whole press thing. Apple is still doi g great with these kinda events. E3 just became a meme.
Not even a "show", just a very long string of commercials with as little downtime as possible to cram EVEN MORE commercials. Even the showmanship of the event died out by the end
It’s surreal seeing this in such incredible quality. I remember watching this in probably sub 480p at the time. Thank you once again for the conservation and archiving you guys are doing.
@@leandrofg04At the time, Sony was riding on the high success of back to back PS1 and PS2. It lead them to state of arrogance that they could do no wrong. The presentation is littered with comments jabbing at Microsoft and Nintendo while contradicting themselves in the same presentation. For example they mention they don’t believe in gimmicks at the start then show off motion controls with sixaxis, Eye of Judgment camera card game and using the PSP as a wing mirror. A lot of the footage they showed fell flat and didn’t inspire much. Most of it was just seen as awkward or funny in places like a “giant enemy crab” appearing in a game that they just said was “based on battles which actually took place in ancient Japan”. Most of it would be called “cringe” these days. The worst offender though was the incredibly high price of $599 for the model most people would want. Sony also said “people will get two jobs” to pay for it. It was a wild time.
@@DzsuditEniko It was uncommon. For example, youtube didnt even have 720p in 2006. Blu ray was introduced that year (dvd highest native resolution is 720*480). Most of the consumer digital cameras of that era didnt even have video recording capabilities. Most of the tv shows of that era were broadcasted at 720p (or less). So fullhd was uncommon a that time. Most likely, nobody watched this presentation with this quality in 2006.
Its so hard to explain to people nowadays how insanely cool this is. Most people werent even able to watch this LIVE! They had to watch it on Gametrailers in 480p! The idea of watching a conference live at this point was not even thought about so the very idea I can see this in HD all these years later is just mindblowing. Everyone who has memories of this remember like a blurry memory and when you watched it on youtube it looked like a blurry memory. So seeing this is like if someone showed you a HD recording of a memory you only vaguely remember. It doesnt feel real, this entire 2 hours of footage was like a dream and this made it a reality and my brain cant handle it.
Well said. The PS3 is my favourite Sony home console and watching this gets me hyped for it again even though I only just played it (Ridge Racer 7, still looks great).
the ps3 was ahead of its time, where as the ps4 and ps5 are made with off the shelf parts. the ps3 had custom silicon, blu ray tech was new, it was backwards compatible with ps1 and ps2 games.
During the first couple of years Sony was losing a ridicules amount of money, PS3 cost about 800 - 900$ to produce, and they were selling it for 600. The price was like that mostly because of the Blu-ray, PS3 was supposed to come out in mid 2005 but was delayed because of that same Blu-ray
15:19 "I'm gonna beat you..." 46:36 "Its Ridge Racer!! Ridge Racerrr!!!" 47:28 "Whoops" 53:05 "Genji is an action game based on Japanese history, being based on history many of the stages in the game feature famous battles that took place in ancient Japan." 55:45 "Here is this Giant Enemy Crab" 56:39 "Attack the Enemy Crab's weak point for massive damage" 1:48:26 "PS3 $599 USD!"
@@semimaster83 Perspective is an interesting thing. Although the PS4 was more successful, I always found it kind of sterile and lacking personality compared to the PS3. It was also the first console Sony ever released that didn't come with PS1 compatibility if you already owned the game (the PS2/PS3 did from disc, the PSP had that license key thing). All the PS4s I've owned run hotter/noisier than my PS2 and PS3 consoles as well. The launch Phat PS3 wasn't perfect, but it was the most ambitious console ever at the time, building on the ambition and promise of the PS1 and PS2. It had hardware level backwards compatibility. It had the operating system on what was at the time super expensive NAND flash, for speed. It was a multimedia hub with card readers and video playback. Hell, you could even print from it. It's amazing, for all it's flaws it was Ken Kutaragi's vision. The PS4, on the other hand, is just a games console with media capabilities tacked on. Even it's Blu-ray player is more barebones than the PS3. Stripped down operating system where the PS Store icon is always front and centre on the homescreen. The case designs are all bland as well - whether Phat, Slim or Pro, it's just an anonymous black sandwich of a console, not the premium shiny trim of the original PS3s. It had some good games but it's a bit soulless.
1:48:09 Got word of the PS5 Pro retailing at USD $699 today, no disc drive... I got reminded of this conference... and it's price tag. You know what they say: History repeating.
Even if the ps5 pro doesn’t sell many units, does it really matter? It’s like saying the iPhone 16 pro max is too expensive. Sure it probably is, but it’s a small piece of the overall pie.
46:37 It's Ridge Racer. RIIIDGE RACERRR 53:06 Genji 2 is an action game which is based on Japanese history 55:44 So here's this giant enemy crab 1:48:27 599 US dollars
Thank you NoClip so much, for archiving these rare gems of the video game history. You seriously contributed very much with this move for the preservation community.
Crazy that there was a lukewarm response after the end of the Uncharted trailer, which would go on to be one of the biggest and best franchises not only on PlayStation, but in gaming entirely.
Watching this in high definition in a modern TV makes it feel like it happened yesterday, but I have to remind myself that I was a teenager when the PS3 launched, early 30s today. I still have trouble processing that "next gen" consoles are considered retro. Just surreal. Phenomenal work on the deinterlacing and upscaling.
Crazy how much raw gameplay we were getting in these conferences with just execs playing games for a bit. Not that we never got that at the end of E3's lifespan but the later years definitely did not have as much of this stuff. Great quality, thank you for preserving this.
despite how silly this conference was I will always find this conference strangely charming the way kaz shouts ridge racer will always put a smile on my face lol
It's all here, in amazing 1080p quality! "Ridge Racer...RIIIDGE RACER!" "599 US DOLLARS" "Attack it's weakpoint for massive damage" :') The memories haha
1:48:27 there it is. For the first time in 1080p high quality, the moment. I also love how before the price drops are spoken, at I believe 1:48:15 you can hear someone go like "Whooaaa".
@@k1rkpadYeah but those who bought a launch model (A B or C depending on region) and kept it running had the last laugh as they're still the best PS3s despite the manufacturing mistakes made. I'd love to have seen Kaz, reading the room after the price drop bomb, go _ "But but but, come on guys, it's got essentially a whole PS2 inside! It's full HD 1080p! A fully featured Blu-ray player!" PS3 Blu-ray player is genuinely better than the PS4. Actually the whole PS3 UI/OS is. It has personality whereas the PS4 always felt sterile to me.
My favorite moments 46:37 - 46:41: Ridge Racer on PSP 53:05 - 53:10: Genji 2 is an ashen game 53:14 - 53:21: Battles that take place in ancient Japan 55:43 - 55:47: So here’s this giant enemy crab 56:38 - 56:43: And you attack its weak point for massive damage *clears throat* 1:48:25-1:48:32: $599 US, $659 Canadian
This press conference has been living rent free in my mind ever since it I saw the one minute edit years ago. In fact, I was quoting Kaz's "Riiiiidge Racer" as I fired up R4 for the first time last night. Major kudos to Danny and the Noclip crew for preserving this important video!
Oh wow, this transfer is so clean, super high quality and really adds to the immersion of recapturing those 2006 vibes. So much better than what came before. Thanks Noclip. U N B E L I E V A B L E (As someone who has seen this presentation many times I am shocked a tiny voice in my head was heard.... please remaster these videos....) MAY THE UNIVERSE BLESS YOU IN MANY WAYS
Came here from the recommendation of Mystic 😁 Omg.. watching this in 4K feels surreal. Looks amazing on an OLED. Really takes me back. Thank you for this gem!
Kudos for this, amazing and perfect quality from a historic moment, hope you find more E3 conferences among the tape boxes you got. The preservation of the games, the reports, the conferences and everything must be kept and well preserved.
$599 was a bargain in 2007. Just look at how expensive Blu Ray was at the time. 360 was cheaper but once you added all of the accessories to be comparable to the PS3 like the wifi dongle and HDDVD drive you were spending more than $600. Then you had to buy batteries and a Live subscription. PS3 had free online, HDMI and full backwards compatability from PS1 and 2 upscaled to HD. The value you were getting was unmatched. You could use it as a PC complete with printer connectivity and an internet browser out of the box and even install Linux
Yeah you can still put Linux on it now if you CFW/homebrew but it's pretty deprecated at this point, the 0.5GB of RAM and not proper GPU support makes it unpleasant so it's not worth the effort. The launch PS3 was amazing, even though a lot of them have failed now and need a GPU swap to revive. It's kinda sad how Sony spent years stripping out launch PS3 features to meet a price point and recoup losses. Putting the OS onto the hard drive really hurt the responsiveness especially when launching it in game. I get it, NAND flash memory was super expensive back then, but every change hurt Kutaragi's vision for the system.
This reminds me that I still have this and the Microsoft Press Conference and even the GameSpot at E3 (part 1 & 2) burned on DVDs that one could download from GameSpot back in the day. Cool to see it in 1080p as mine is just DVD quality.
My advice would be get a PS3 Phat CECHA model (PS2 inside) that's been cleaned, delidded and had the Frankenstein mod (GPU transfer from later PS3 that's more reliable) done. It'll cost more but damn, it'll be amazing.
@@TheCeraization No because noisy disc drive and can't full CFW only HEN. I have all 3 and to be honest you're better off getting a Slim than a Super Slim, they're trash honestly.
@@TheCeraization As usual the Internet inaccurately exaggerates how often stuff like that happens. Never had a disc get stuck in a PlayStation slotloader and I've owned quite a few of them at this point. The Super Slim, on the other hand, the plastic catch that holds the disc cover closed is quite weak and cheap, so as it ages it won't fully close properly meaning you have to open and close it with force a couple of times when putting in a disc to get it to read. Mine does this and it's annoying.
It’s funny thinking back on how big this event was for both the ridge racer meme, and the price reveal. I distinctly remember all the kids in my school who had PS2s were pretty much only excited about the PSP. It took a long time for the PS3 to recover from this event.
“$600? Guess I’m getting a 360 because my folks aren’t buying that for me,” Me, at 13. It’s wild that we can pinpoint the exact moment that the landscape shifted.
I don't know why, but I have a fondness for media and personalities with a bad reputation: Michael Larson's $110,237 "Press Your Luck" clinic, the original Super Mario Bros. movie, "TMNT III," and Sony's E3 2006 press conference. So, I really enjoyed this. It looks like it was shot yesterday. Thank you very much for your preservation work. 👏
I had forgotten exactly how bad the Genji part was. I only remembered the giant enemy crab and its weak point that allows for massive damage but the moments of awkward silences, crab not coming on screen, the sloppy gameplay and nervousness of the fellow playing it. Wow
AMAZING!!! Ive waited all those years for this. Thank you so much for this upload!! Now we just need some time markers for all the.. ahem... GREAT moments!
Wow I really had forgotten just how brown/gray/monotone games were at that time -- this was, or near the peak of that aesthetic style back then. Not saying it's a bad thing, it certainly has a look very specific to this moment in gaming. Now I see why Mirror's Edge made such a notable visual splash just 2 years later.
This is genuinely fantastic. I hope you have access to other conferences like Nintendo unveiling the Revolution and Miyamoto demoing Wii Music in a full on tux (I believe those were two separate ones).

It doesnt feel real, this entire 2 hours of footage was like a dream and this made it a reality and my brain cant handle it.
I streamed this on TH-cam on day of release but was so choppy because my internet was rubbish
Haha i watched the highlights on GT :D
Well said. The PS3 is my favourite Sony home console and watching this gets me hyped for it again even though I only just played it (Ridge Racer 7, still looks great).

@@mesicek7 RIP GT, you were amazing.
"599 us dollars" plays in my head about once a month for some reason. Usually related to when something is ridiculously expensive. Thanks, Sony!
Now the ps5
@@jacielmendez8771PS5 isn't even expensive though
the ps3 was ahead of its time, where as the ps4 and ps5 are made with off the shelf parts. the ps3 had custom silicon, blu ray tech was new, it was backwards compatible with ps1 and ps2 games.
@@possiblyinsane6995Exactly!

This is horrificly awesome. It's like watching the best car crash ever.
I forgot just how awkward these presentations used to be.
Best car crash ever? Well the PS3 did get Burnout Paradise, plus all the PS2 era ones play if you got a launch back compat model. 😊
@@RiccardoMargiottaAwkward? I think Kaz is pretty slick and confident, the odd autocue fumble aside.
the silver lining in this is that sony learned from this and when it came to PS4......blew it out of the planet if not galaxy
Here after PS5 Pro, that will cost $700 (around $780-800 if you also buy the disc drive)
while PS3 is $600 (60GB). 🤦
PS3 and PS5 are worth if you hardcore gamer although PS5 Pro Price is more justified by its optional upgrade .

You know what they say: History repeating.
Even if the ps5 pro doesn’t sell many units, does it really matter?
It’s like saying the iPhone 16 pro max is too expensive. Sure it probably is, but it’s a small piece of the overall pie.

real time weapon change and real time character change
Just incredible, we've been stuck with the 480p feed for 17 years now. I cannot express how important this all is.
its was probably even worse than 480p, that quality was like 480i and composite video at the same time, with a noticeable dot crawl effect.
Thank you NoClip so much, for archiving these rare gems of the video game history. You seriously contributed very much with this move for the preservation community.
one of the conferences of all time
Is this sarcasm? Or a baby that wasn't aware in 2006 of how bad Sony had it compared to Microsoft?
One of the most over used comments of all time.
@@al112v4 Read it again.
Crazy that there was a lukewarm response after the end of the Uncharted trailer, which would go on to be one of the biggest and best franchises not only on PlayStation, but in gaming entirely.
Goes to show that most people don’t understand greatness until a later date
Wild how this is just a straight up powerpoint business presentation, the industry has come a long way since 2006!
My heart is racing! What a wonderful thing that NoClip is doing with archival material like this. ❤
Holy shit, it’s remarkable how stuffy these conferences were
Watching this in high definition in a modern TV makes it feel like it happened yesterday, but I have to remind myself that I was a teenager when the PS3 launched, early 30s today. I still have trouble processing that "next gen" consoles are considered retro. Just surreal. Phenomenal work on the deinterlacing and upscaling.
55:45 The moment we have all waited for.
Crazy how much raw gameplay we were getting in these conferences with just execs playing games for a bit. Not that we never got that at the end of E3's lifespan but the later years definitely did not have as much of this stuff. Great quality, thank you for preserving this.
despite how silly this conference was I will always find this conference strangely charming
the way kaz shouts ridge racer will always put a smile on my face lol
We all know why we are here once again 🤣

For the first time in 1080p high quality, the moment.
I also love how before the price drops are spoken, at I believe 1:48:15 you can hear someone go like "Whooaaa".
It's funny to think they expected to ship 4 million by the end of 2006. Only did 1.8
@@k1rkpadYeah but those who bought a launch model (A B or C depending on region) and kept it running had the last laugh as they're still the best PS3s despite the manufacturing mistakes made.
I'd love to have seen Kaz, reading the room after the price drop bomb, go _
"But but but, come on guys, it's got essentially a whole PS2 inside! It's full HD 1080p! A fully featured Blu-ray player!"
PS3 Blu-ray player is genuinely better than the PS4. Actually the whole PS3 UI/OS is. It has personality whereas the PS4 always felt sterile to me.

This press conference has been living rent free in my mind ever since it I saw the one minute edit years ago. In fact, I was quoting Kaz's "Riiiiidge Racer" as I fired up R4 for the first time last night. Major kudos to Danny and the Noclip crew for preserving this important video!

Don't stop there. If you had a high end Hi-Fi setup, the early 60GB launch day models had SACD playback, 4 USB and CF card ports.
@@garyd2717 PS3 had 256mb of RAM. Unlike X360 it didn't had unified memory.

Kaz was badass.
This reminds me that I still have this and the Microsoft Press Conference and even the GameSpot at E3 (part 1 & 2) burned on DVDs that one could download from GameSpot back in the day. Cool to see it in 1080p as mine is just DVD quality.
I actually got to go to E3 2006, good times.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen this full presentation, and certainly not at this quality. Amazing work!
Wow, crazy quality, I remember being excited about a lot of these games. And now I remember they existed. Great nostalgia trip. I should buy a PS3
My advice would be get a PS3 Phat CECHA model (PS2 inside) that's been cleaned, delidded and had the Frankenstein mod (GPU transfer from later PS3 that's more reliable) done. It'll cost more but damn, it'll be amazing.
I say get yourself a super slim PS3. They were the best and most reliable model overall.
@@TheCeraization No because noisy disc drive and can't full CFW only HEN. I have all 3 and to be honest you're better off getting a Slim than a Super Slim, they're trash honestly.
@@garyd2717 Hard disagree. At least the discs will never get stuck inside like PS3s have been known for.
Amazing! Gonna grab the popcorn and watch this for the first time in years and in glorious HD this weekend.
Thanks Dan and the NoClip Crew. Simply amazing.

It’s funny thinking back on how big this event was for both the ridge racer meme, and the price reveal. I distinctly remember all the kids in my school who had PS2s were pretty much only excited about the PSP. It took a long time for the PS3 to recover from this event.

So, I really enjoyed this. It looks like it was shot yesterday. Thank you very much for your preservation work. 👏
