    I just bought my first typewriter yesterday. This is absolutely beautiful. Definitely will keep my eyes peeled for one of these if it becomes available.

      It's a custom build, will be very unlikely to find another. I will be selling a different fully restored cursive typewriter next month though!

    A retype well done Lucas, it must have been a beast to align. I'm curious about the motions of the type, are the circumferences of the Corona and Royal Platens the same ? What soldering lamp did you use ? can appreciate the amount of detailed work involved, once again a great job

    • @TypewriterChicago
      @TypewriterChicago  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Check the link in the description! The platen diameters are quite similar actually! I didn't own a solder jig at the time I did this, so I had to hold everything super steady with a pair of pliers as the solder cooled. Moving them a tiny dot at a time and rechecking.

    • @billogle4776
      @billogle4776 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@TypewriterChicago Well done Lucas, most of my generation didn't use jigs, we did what you did, with a little additional action, we would put the type into the soldering lamp flame to warm it and then close it over so that it would fit snugly on the type bar, snugly and firmly in the approximate position required., then move it about for anvil clearance and alignment then a drop of bakers fluid , into the flame and dab with solder, we were always told the less older the stronger the joint...we always removed the type bar with a follow through fulcrum wire. Try to locate a Britnol soldering lamp in either version the round mug type or the smaller oblong with folding handles the sit on the bench, the britnol burns methylated spirit , very good controlable heat they leave both hands free. You can become very proficient using this method and preferred it to using the jig. Again well done...do you have a "V" bar ?

    Fabulous! Have you kept the original slugs that were on the Royal? If so, what typeface were they and will you re-use them?

    Hello Typewriter Chicago, i'd like you make a question. I have one of this Royal Portable model P typewirter machine in black color, the serial number is P29599, do you know what year is made..?

      1927 according to typewriter database.

  • @12Lukebott
    @12Lukebott 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How is this the rarest Royal Typewriter if it types in a font from a corona 5te? Explain this to me. Did you swap out the type from a corona 5TE typewriter?

    • @TypewriterChicago
      @TypewriterChicago  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I did swap the type, each slug was hand soldered. It is statistically the rarest because nobody bothered to do it before. If you want the full explanation, the definition of rare is "An event, situation, or condition not occurring very often." To my knowledge, script Royal Ps don't occur very often! Hope that helps.
      I should add that while the materials themselves are not rare at all, the machine in it's completed form is--to my knowledge--the only one in existence. If that's not rare, I don't know what is. Otherwise, it was just a fun project.

Sometimes you just have to walk away from your market and let'm burn..._ We Ourselves could probably write some seriously pervy stuff typing like that!!
