- www.playbill.co... MCC Theater has taken up the laborious task of revamping one of Broadway's most notorious flops, the musical "Carrie." The troupe recently opened the doors of its Lucille Lortel Theatre on the first day of tech rehearsal for a sneak peek at the revised musical. Derek Klena (as high school jock Tommy Ross) and Christy Altomare (as popular girl Sue Snell) perform "You Shine," one of the new songs added to the show during the last several years of intense workshop in which both the score and book were revised.
Both Christy and Derek are so talented, they put such raw emotion into all of their performances it's inspiring. Their chemistry is so astounding you forget they're acting. I hope they're in more things together.

The original... Flopped with good reason. Great actors, a couple good scenes, but God, was it a mess
The 2012 version is great for sure. I have a couple things I'd change if I were in charge but I'm not and even without the changes it's a really solid musical. They had a great show on their hands in 1988, but it suffered from poor direction, and I'm so glad they got another shot at it because it's got so much potential and I'd hate to see potential like this wasted

This song is pretty, but the musical is littered with character songs that are pretty inconsequential and do nothing to further the plot along. This song would easily get cut in a film adaptation
Not every song in a musical has to move the song along. Songs are also used for characters to express their thoughts/feelings.
