If you could only choose 1 between Meyer and Danley, what are you choosing? If money is no object so you could afford anything you needed for any size venue, which 1 would it be?

@@calebrabion good question. They are both exceptional.
I do have some video comparing both the sm80 and x40 I will post soon.
Both are excellent brands. If we are talking the sm80 and x40 and I were to always use subs, I would take the Danley system. It’s a little more rock and roll and things like vocals and snare pop a little more than the x40. It’s a more mid forward box and I prefer that for live mixing.
The x40 is a little more hifi out of the gate. And size and weight are incredible for what it delivers.
I do find the sm80 to get louder.
As a stand alone box the x40 is the clear winner.
I have a few guys that work with me and all but one prefers the sm80/th118xl. They say the same thing. Vocals and nuances punch out of the Danley boxes. They are there in the x40 but it’s more subdued. Not in a bad way and I could also see it preferred by some users.
I also prefer passive systems. As someone who does about 100 gigs a year, I do prefer passive. It’s one power source, I run one nl4 to each side and it can power two subs and a top.
I don’t have the need to worry about weather as much.
Danley will straight up tell you the sm80 is not their best sounding box. It sounds great but compromises were made to make it loud, light weight, and sound good.
Something like the sh95 is so smooth and detailed it’s crazy. They don’t have the output so I use them when I can. The cohesion from the true synergy horns is amazing and when you compare them to the sm80 or x40 it’s a different sound and in my opinion, the best option.
I did own the sh96ho and that was an amazing box. Sold them and moved to J7 which is simply amazing and will outperform most small format line arrays depending on deployment. It’s all about fidelity and ease of deployment and for me, Danley hits that mark. For what it’s worth, I compared a J7 next to six srx906 and the J7 was much more coherent.
You can’t go wrong with any higher end brand. Things are very subjective but dollar per performance and value, Danley is hard to beat.
When I run Danley, the compliments from people are nonstop. This is from casual listeners and fans of the bands. They are in awe how clean and big the Danley rigs sound. People notice the difference.
The tapped horns are clean and the impact is immediate. They also don’t blow as much low end back on stage so the artists are happy.
Dollar for dollar, say close to dealer cost, the Danley rig will cost you around $25k where the Meyer will come in in the mid $40k range. Two tops and four subs.
I do love them both. Hope this helps.

@@calebrabion if money weren’t an option and I wasn’t concerned about size and ease of deployment, for a small point source system I’d go d&b v10p and four gsubs with proper power.
Before I bought my J7 I almost bought an L’acoustics A15 and ks21 rig. 8 of each. I was already heavily invested in Danley so the j7 made the most sense.
I’m in a good place right now so until I need more I’m going to stay put. If needed I’ll rent or expand when needed.

@SanCoSoundandLight Awesome. Thanks for the info. I'd love to see some videos of the J7s. I've been a fan of the Jericho line for years. Some day, I will have a Jericho setup.

@SanCoSoundandLight never mind... You have some posted, and I've watched them before. I'm getting old, lol.

@@calebrabion I’ll grab more of the J7 next time I have them out.
They are amazing boxes. The amount of sound and the clarity is unmatched in my opinion. I went back and forth on a small line array for a while and it’s easier and more efficient to fly a Jericho than a small box array, especially if you are only flying 5-6 boxes.
