  • Rum is the wild west of Spirits and in this video, I go over what is Rum, the history of Rum, How Rum is made, types of rum and finally give you some great resources to learn more about this wonderful Spirit.
    Rum has so many variations such as Dark rum, white rum, navy rum, aged rum, overproof rum and so much more. I go over all of those different styles of rum and then some.
    Rum history is very fascinating to me, and I try to touch upon a lot of the most important aspects, at least in my opinion.

    Hi Lui. I am just now starting to read Smuggler's Cove and learning the differences in types of rum, i.e. agricole versus a rum like my beloved Appleton 8 and 12!!! LOVE them so much!!! This was a fabulous education on rye and such amazing history. I am starting to get in to delicious Tiki cocktails. Rum is amazingly versatile!! I hope everything is going well Lui!! Cheers!! 🙂

    • @makmoose
      @makmoose 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      it's a bit of a shame but unless there are craft bottlings out there that clearly state it, most rum is going to have additives. in regards to added sugar any rum made, aged and bottled in jamaica, barbados, or AOC agricole regions have any added sugar. this is not true for blends containing these rums however, plantation 3 stars is an example of this. even though it is made from jamaican and barbados rums, because it is blended with trinidadian rum, they are allowed to add a small amount of sugar (which in all fairness plantation do disclose on their website)

    good job Lui..... as you alluded to, "rum" is just too large of a topic and to give an overview would be tough. i've actually started to make artisanal rums, not using barrels, so i'm able to experiment with various aging woods, quite fun

    • @Lui_Fern
      @Lui_Fern  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you my friend! Yeah it's just such a giant topic. To make a video that covered it all it would take over an hour at minimum. Which no one would watch hahaha
      But that's incredible that you've been experimenting making your own rum!

    The navy strength rum is at an alcohol level where if the rum spilt on the gunpowder it would still ignite.

    hey buddy, often i see a recipe call for "spiced rum" Whats a spiced rum? all i see are sailor jerrys in the supermarket that are those

    • @Lui_Fern
      @Lui_Fern  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So spiced rum is for me one of those things that falls into the lawlessness of rum. It's rum with spices added. Usually these products are inferior in quality because the producers sometimes add more than just spices and end up adding additives and other things to it.
      Some Carribean countries make real spices rum and I've heard that that is mind blowing good.

    • @meangreencarpetcleaners3558
      @meangreencarpetcleaners3558 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Basically Spiced Rum is what they call for when they want to just cover up the real taste. Basically, how Coca-cola would make Rum.

    The title is a huge click bait. I love the passion you're doing this with but a lot of this is wrong. The color classification of rum is so unhelpful. It would be better to classify them via the country they come as it different countries use different styles. "Solera aged" rum isn't even legit. It was borrowed from sherry production. Majority of solera aged rum are just using fake age statements.

    • @roymaddocks3184
      @roymaddocks3184 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Solera system rum is complicated. If it says 23, that's the oldest rum. They keep adding young rums to the barrels. In contrast, El Dorado or Appleton age statements refer to the youngest rums in the bottle
