    Back in 1976, I hitched a ride with a truck driver of a meat truck that delivered to restaurants in Houston. When he turned off the highway, I asked where we we were doing, and he told me that I could end up at the Hilton Hotel or the bottom of Lake Conroe. 😲🤯😱 So I laughed (NEVER SHOW YOUR FEAR) pretending to be stupid and when he stopped at a red light, I jumped out and ran. It was terrifying, and I never hitchhiked again.

      They've got disturbing stats about the estimated number of truck drivers who are also serial killers. It makes sense. If you're a serial killer it's a good job to have because you're just passing through and you don't live there. You aren't shitting in your own nest, so to speak, so it's much harder to catch you. By the time anyone notices the person is missing, you've already killed them, dumped them, and left town. And since you don't live there nobody even knows you or anything about you to even think of suggesting they look into you. After all, truckers staying one night (usually in their own trucks) and then leaving in the morning is common and part of the job. I'm glad you got away, that must have been the most terrifying situation to be in. But, in the 70s hitchhiking was common and still considered by most people to be safe. I think by 1976 they were trying to put out warnings to tell people not to hitchhike but by then it was so common I don't think most people were listening yet, which makes sense because given how normalized it was it takes a while before something like that gets a true stigma to it. I'm glad you're alright and you were able to think quickly enough to save yourself before something terrible happened.

      I'm not sure how exactly they ruin it for genuine people. For the simple reason if you are dating or married to someone, your genuine behaviour and actions speak for themselves . As for the over friendly in these situations, they weren't over Compensating as they were manipulating and masking as one was a serial Angel of death killer and one was a kidnapper.
      The issue is when these nice guys treated dating women as transactionals , ie" because I paid for dinner i deserved something in return"
      Or the most common one is "but I was nice to you" by nice they mean they treated and respect them like a human which is quite literally the lowest bar ever.

    God I hate when men act like that after you tell them it’s not going to work out. A lawyer did that to me after he told me his car didn’t work so I would have to meet him at his apartment. I told him we could go on a date when his jeep started working again. That never happened, so he kept telling me I HAD to go to his apartment. I was getting serial killer vibes from the first time I said I wouldn’t go to his apartment, and that I wanted I want to go out in public, but he got super mad. After trying to get me to go to his apartment for the last time I finally just said it wouldn’t work. He also got super mad when I didn’t want to FaceTime at 2 am, or go for a “late night swim.” Nah, he was a stranger. I’m not meeting anyone outside of a public place in the first date. Anyway, after the last rejection he called me a stuck up bitch who would never get a man better than him, and I lost my chance with the only good guy out there, and all the bs. I’m not kidding when I say this guy was brutal. Not long after though I met an amazing guy, we dated for a few years, and he’s still a good friend even after my breakup. Oh and his car worked, after our third date he was at my house taking leaves with my mom . 😂 Girls if a guy loses their shit because you are uncomfortable, trust your gut and run… There are always better men out there that would never do that to you.

      That lawyer sounds sketchy AF. Good thing you didn't go to his apartment. Why would a lawyer, which is generally a very well paid career choice, not be able to afford to keep his car in working order, or just buy a new one? He was just using that as an excuse, to try and lure you over there, and it was most likely just total BS on his part.

    EDIT: I want to be kind, but I need to make something clear, and sometimes you can't do both: I have no interest in religious arguments with this or any of my comments. I don't want to discuss, convert to, or bash anyone's belief system and I don't want it done by anyone else on this thread, please. I believe in freedom of speech and religion. Saying that, I also believe in proper time and place. This isn't it. If this conversation gets too far off topic -- or worse, abusive to anyone -- I'll be forced to delete the entire thread. I'm deleting my own part of the conversation below. Thank you for understanding.
    Haven't heard of the bear vs man poll and I love that this has happened!
    Because I'm convinced that Dougie, Fam and most of this community are not the ones to be afraid of in the middle of the woods, I feel safe speaking here:
    I was watching a Western series today that got me pondering how easy it was to lie and cover up misdeeds prior to social media, with everything now being candidly filmed for a global audience. Women prior to our current age (and many still) were mercilessly subjected to gaslighting, lack of educational access, physical overpowering and the deeply ingrained bro codes. This has kept the unchecked natures of most men protected. Coddled egos and celebrations held every time he pulls out his sword.😉
    Honestly I'm not saying all men. From my experiences as a bartender in several tourist towns for *decades* (and experiences as a woman for half a century) I will say that it is damn near 80% doing terrible things to either unwilling or exploited women. I'll give a very few of that number a pass for not realizing how their behavior affects others but I do expect that to be a prelude to change.
    My guess is that the overwhelming amount of women choosing the bear is around that same percentage. You know at least what the bear is capable of. What I don't understand is, why are these men confused by the choice? How is it not completely obvious to them?

    • @starlight4130
      @starlight4130 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      Preach! The constant pressure to stay in my lane as a woman and the fear of past and future sexual assaults. A lot of men have the privilege of having a false sense of authority. I used to think this is was arrogance but now I see it as men feeling entitled to the assumed power of authority just because it’s been propped up through our patriarchal society, here in the US specifically.
      As a female and avid backpacker, I mostly bring knives and a tazer to protect myself from men or sketchy people. For bears I only bring a rope to hang my food.

    • @CleoHarperReturns
      @CleoHarperReturns 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

      @@starlight4130 Exactly. A bear's behavior (if one bothers to learn it) doesn't really vary that much. As a human being with a large, capable brain and purpose-made tools, we can prepare ourselves for what we know and defend ourselves through our own determinations.
      Bears play by the strict rules of nature that keep their behavior from spiraling out into chaos. Humans -- and specifically men in this particular topic -- have insulated themselves from these laws. Therefore they feel lawless in their own behavior. They feel limited only by their imagination.
      It's the ideological flipside of an artistic masterpiece. One side involves arrogance, while the other, humility.
      I told my 76yo mother about this poll. She said she'd rather have both -- so she has something to feed the bear.😆
      I hope you never stop going out into the wilderness. I hope you always find your communion out there. It's worth absolutely everything. I wish I could go too; I'm no longer physically able.
      But if there comes a day where you do find a not-so-good man instead of a bear I want you to remember: Nature is excellent at leveling the playing field and you have a bigger toolbox. I also want you to remember that rope. It's more useful than you might think.
      Sorry for the book.

    "Would you rather be alone in the woods with a bear or a Stranger!"
    You got a 50/50 chance with humans.
    You got 90/1 with the bear.
    Dang right I'd answer bear.

That trial has been pushed to august of this year, 2024. If he is not convicted as an SVP he will be released from prison to a halfway house, which is legitimately terrifying.

Human meat was being served in a restaurant and no one knew about it. It’s a long story but I know that these things happen but I still believe that this story is fiction as after you have surgery of anytime, it’s hard to move for for a few days and the pain is excruciating. There is no way a person could have dinner or would want to show or would have enough energy to run specially if you gluteus Maximus had been removed, which helps with walking and running or with sitting. I haven’t read any of the comments, I haven’t finished listening to the entire story. I enjoy all your stories both real life experiences and fictions.

    I couldn't even share my story about why I would pick the bear on youtube. It would break rules somehow, because it actually was horrific. A lot of women picked the bear for similar reasons that I did: the worst the bear could do is kill you and it would be fast, no torture. If you got away, no one would ask you what you were wearing, how much you had to drink, did you encourage the bear and get too close? If I got mauled i think my mom would go to the hospital with me, the police would do...something. Not let an untested r*pe kit sit on a shelf since 2016 along with thousands of others. The worst part is the men are everywhere, and if you are a good man then you know we dont mean to group you in but you are gentle and kind and know that before that the bad ones change us and we realize we have to protect ourselves and can only do that by putting our guards up for awhile. I pray it never ever happens again, because there are things that i live with inside that make living in somedays, worse than death.

      Bears sometimes “play” with their victims for days! Like the other commenter said they’d do extremely bad stuff. There was a story of a woman getting chased by a bear for over a month. He’d catch her she’d be practically dead bleeding he’d go away. She nursed herself back to health he started again. Eventually she made it to a ranger who saved her and killed the bear. Many weren’t that lucky…
      A man would probably not to stuff like that. And even if he did it wouldn’t be that terrible.
      So this “advice” is terrible and only makes young girls be scared of everything and everyone.
      So choose: getting hunted for days in a game of cat and mouse with a much higher chance to get killed or attacked. Or a much much smaller chance of something that will happen quickly and you have much more protection because a man is easier to case down then a bear.
      I’d be happy if you would respond.

    • @BleedFromMyEarsBass
      @BleedFromMyEarsBass 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I'm sorry that happened to you, but if it was a bear situation, people would be asking "why did she go into bear territory alone and unarmed?" "How much did she have to drink to do something that stupid?" " didn't she know that was going to happen if she went too close?" " was she messing with it to make it angry?" "Did she run away to make it chase her?" - so pretty much all pertinent questions for a bear situation, that make a lot of sense for the other situation as well. There are a lot of cruel men and there are a lot of cruel women. Bad things happen to good people everyday, for sure, but if you take responsibility for your role in that whole thing, you'll see things differently. I don't mean that a victim should start blaming themselves for what happened. I mean take responsibility for your own actions, and realize what your role was in it, what you could and should do differently in the future. The world doesn't owe you safety. You need to ensure your own safety everyday.
      Besides, a bear would eat bites from you while keeping you alive. And at the end, people would still lowkey blame you, because the bear was just being a bear, while you are the idiot that got eaten.

      Actually, bears don't typically see us as prey. They are very smart animals, but not smart enough to realize that they can destroy any human in approximately 0.05 seconds, so you can still scare them away if you bluff just right lol. Bears are aware that any reasonable creature would be scared shtless of them, so you acting loud and crazy is a huge red flag for them. That being said, if I'm getting *attacked*, I'd rather be attacked by a human than a bear... but a bear is very, very unlikely to attack a person. Dougie, LOVE your stories dude! The stories are fascinating, the way you tell them is interesting, even your voice and tone are exciting! You make me feel like every tale is true and really happened to you! I'm sure some are and some may not be, but you're so immersive and detailed, it's like you're reliving them! Nice job! Just found you recently because of the story " I wish I hadn't gone to that party", and I've been hooked ever since! Thanks!

    Some men aren't worth it and they hide their true intentions to lure women in. And that's probably why they never get with the nice guys. All I can say is be yourself and look for what you wanted in the beginning. Don't lose hope. There is someone for everyone.

    Story #3:
    This is Absolutely a True Story!
    My Ex-Husband Worked at Louisiana Pacific Lumber, in Red Bluff, CA. with this horrible Man Cameron Hooker and his Complacent Wife who should have gone to Prison as an Accomplice!
    What this very young GIRL, went through is a nightmare of Torture and Slavery!
    Being held under a bed in a coffin with a box over her head in unbearable heat!
    Temperatures in Red Bluff are taken 20 miles from Town in an Oarchard. When the Thermometer reads 118 degrees it would be 124 degrees in Town!
    They chained her to the toilet in front of their Daughters!

Never mind that at 58 years old, you should be well-versed on how to kick a man in the nuts. Gouge His eyes out? Shit if there’s anything Gen X kids know, it’s how to fight. 🙄

      @@asherael No, "men" is all inclusive. "Men" generally aren't evil, sadistic bastards. Some absolutely are, but when someone says "men", they mean men, not "assholes", not "evil men", just men. It's absurd and wildly ignorant to write off an entire, massive group of people because of the actions of very, very, very, very, very few. That's the fundamental basis of every prejudice: racism, sexism, homophobia, ageism, classism, nationalism, xenophobia... you name it. It's just ignorance reinforced with hatred and it's always disgusting and no matter how many people insist that SOME prejudice is all right or claim it isn't prejudice at all, it is always fundamentally hateful and wrong.
