You can see how being in a place he loves like Japan affects his mood. He seems happy and relaxed in this interview. I hope he was able to go to Okinawa like he wanted. I also really like this hairstyle he sported, which I know he had for Elephant Man. This is the only interview I've seen him have it.
I bought Scary Monsters (US import, sealed) when I was 16 years old back in 1986. My perception of music was never the same afterwards. I miss Bowie at his peak, 70s and 80s, and all the beautiful messages that his art conveyed. I knew back then that in my adulthood such artists would not exist anymore. Something very important is missing these days. Greetings from Buenos Aires.
I bought it in January of 1981 at Appletree Records on West Lincoln Highway in Dekalb, Illinois just after I returned to college after Christmas break.
I love how he said he thought folk music and traditional tribal music would be big in the 80s. But not the synthesizer. Definitely not the synthesizer. In the 80s. Oh, Bowie. You crack me up.
i think he was guessing off the talking heads remain in light, which was working in african music. plus, lets dance was originally going to be a folk album
@@humandroid53 He may influenced , or be influenced by Eno & Byrne - weren't they working in "my life in the bush of ghosts " at the same time in New York? Also see AdamAnt using Burundi drumming. Perhaps he thought it would either too kitch to incorporate/ appropriate those types of music himself? Did he fly every year to Japan (!)?.
It is so nice to see such a respectful interview. A lot of Western interviewers, around this time, try to get Bowie to say or do something sensational. They are a lot more confrontational.
Wow, this is great. Bowie at that absolute pinnacle of his career, with the spectacular album SCARY MONSTERS and his broadway performance in THE ELEPHANT MAN. I experienced both as they coincide with the best year(s) of my life!
By Jesus, even without anything done, no fancy haircut no make up this man was dead handsome. I'm straight as a fiddle stick and even I am struck by it...
As usual, totally engaged and engaging, thoughtful intelligent answers to the questions, always he finds the humour of the moment, has a quick crack up to himself cpl of times there.as always he was so sexy and YES mesmerising, always mesmerising even if talking about scary monsters or ancient pop up houses in japan.
I love the way he hides the embarrassment by smiling and paying attention to the japanese words , trying to understand the awkward situation (when the interviewer is the translator, too) in the most polite way.
So beautiful, and such a lovely message - Don't waste any day, don't waste a minute.
+sanijas83 Yes, it is, so true. I often think of his words, I think so many of us just run through life taking tomorrow for granted.
Carpe diem. 😊😊
Hi pepper1005! Is it known where this interview was held? And the recording date? Thanks :)
this was when he was most handsome IMO. over the drug binging days of the mid 70s, maturing into his mid 30s and down to earth
I wish I could just find him talking on loop! So I could just listen to his beautiful, hypnotic, and magical voice...
hang on to yourself
I can listen to his talk all day!! i love his English accent sooooo much!!!!!!!
He was so handsome and had a delicious smile 2:06 is quite funny i think he really wants to laugh but was too polite
"Don't waste any day. Don't waste a minute."
gosh, he is mesmerizing
I always learn something from his interviews.
Very intelligent soul!
Me too
Thank you so much ❤
What did you learn from this one?
Aw he is so polite 😭😂
He had such beautiful hair.
I lived in Kyoto in the 80's and I always looked out for him. Never saw him though...

Another awesome interview, so humble and full of humility, miss the guy!

+Deanna Dibble. Actually, as usual, he was way ahead. Tribal and world music did become popular - especially through Peter Gabriel's Real World label.
And Paul Simon with Graceland etc.
Bullshit...he got it wrong...get over it...
i think he was guessing off the talking heads remain in light, which was working in african music.

He looks so pretty in this interview ♡
Every interview with the man is an eye opener. 😲😲😲
Bella intervista...occhi magnetici...voce calda...intelligenza e simpatia....this is Bowie...love forever

Till today my favourite album is Scary Monsters. There is music before SM and after SM

By far scary monsters is my fave album along with diammond dogs
wish they could do a virtual reality meet bowie game,,,,wish it so
Oh I'm so envious! I'd loved to have seen him in Elephant Man. From clips I've seen he was wonderful.
Thank you coming to Japan ✨
I woulded meet to you😢
But, forever you'll be at our heart.
So, we are not sad🤗
Thank you happiness and joy🎁
Fantastic. Always so polite. And quite beautiful here.
David ❤❤❤

AESTHETIC
Looks like he just stepped off the Fashion video shoot here
Thank you for sharing this!
Miss you David
Hottest singer of all time.
Hero and inspiration to us all here at Edward's Operation.
Does anyone know the name of the band he was referring to, the one that played Okinawan music on electric instruments?
Okay interview.
Spent some nights in old Kyoto,
sleeping on the matted ground...
Then, he expected that his song "Let's Dance" will be sold high, didn't he?
Aaaaaaaaah my heart...2:05

I like these teeth. I did not like the veneers he finally got.
Cheeky David licking lips.
