You may not see this but Lonesome dove is tied for my most favorite book of all time. It is absolutely astounding. It’s tied with shadow of the wind because they are kind of the same, nothing exists in a vacuum. everyone has a backstory and those backstories have backstories; the side characters have side characters. Shadow is a coming of age, while Lonesome Dove is a changing of the time; one is a sunrise and another a sunset and I honestly can’t tell which is more beautiful!!!!
All of my books come from the library! It's my favorite place. And then when I really love a book I get to try to hunt for it at the used book store. You have such beautiful special editions in this video.
I hate when people buy special editions and then sell them for 3x their value. Drives me crazy! Thanks for calling them out hahaha 😂 I also recently bought Lonesome Dove at a thrift store, but only because Michael from The Office says that it’s Holly’s favorite book 😂
A Sorceress Come to Call was one of my fav this year! I listened to the audio. Didnt like Nettle & Bone too much but I’m wanting to read all her books. I agree, the short fantasy stories are so fun.
When you mention how we hate when people upcharge books on pango reminds me when someone was selling their arc of Fourth Wing when it was all the rage. And someone else ACTUALLY BOUGHT IT FOR A THOUSAND DOLLARS. still stuns me to this day🤣
People over here in the uk are trying to sell the original ACOTAR paperbacks for £100s. Its crazy. They're unattractive for starts and are often in terrible condition. There was a point the first cresent city hard back was being resold for £150 which is x5 mark up. Illimicrate resells are also horrendous. Luckily, other than rare stuff, manga reselling is sensible ish. And love are private second hand and charity shop bookshops. Great way to pick up older fantasy books. I've nearly completed my Micheal Moorcock collection
I have a lady at a flea market near my house, Mass markets are $1, and hard covers are $3, she also likes SFF so I'm lucky because she has a good variety :D, I bough almost my entire collection of Dragonriders of Pern from her which is A LOT of books all for $1 each.
Lonesome Dove is one of my favorites books of all time! The character work is nothing short of amazing. You and your hubs should read it together, it seems like something he would be into too!
Westerns don't interest me but funnily enough lonesome dove is also on my tbr as of 1 month ago. I was looking for audiobook recommendations and it was highly praised, even by people who also don't like westerns
I just got my husband that same Lonesome Dove copy for $6 at bookmans because his copy is falling apart from many reads during hikes in the grand canyon :)
I loved both Foul Days and The Dollmakers! Actually I'm having a really good luck streak with ARCs that they are all great: The Scarlet Throne, The Teller of Small Fortunes, The Last Dragon of the East, enjoyed all of them. Now I've just gotten A Cruel Thirst and I hope it doesn't disappoint.
Lonesome Dove 💛! If you end up liking it there’s three others in the series, prequels and a sequel. I am hoping to read Foul Days soon! I also only use my Library-but if a book has a big enough impact I will buy it.
Race the Sands was so fun! I love her as well even though I haven't read Spellshop yet. I've recently read 16 Ways to Defend a Walled City by KJ Parker, which is the closest I've found to an Abercrombie. The second one was just okay, but the first one was so good the second one doesn't matter haha.
Bookman's is my go-to local bookstores. They are starting to sell more and more new books, too! Also, Zia Records can have a pretty good book selection 👍
Lonesome Dove is a great book. I was initially surprised when I heard Abercrombie say that McMurtry was one of his influences, but when I really thought about it, it actually made sense. I can see it most in his character work. Especially a complex character like Glokta. Streets of Laredo is also excellent.
I have Foul Days on my TBR, so now I’m extra excited to read it. As a side note, I would love to hear you review the book Dungeon Crawler Carl. I just finished it and immediately picked up its sequel.
I love Bookmans! I got to the ones in Tucson all the time. Especially this summer when they had the promo of buy 9 books get the 10th free. And I've also been really enjoying the access of libby on my kobo. They've made checking out books so much more accessible. I'll have to check out that other bookstore when I'm in Phoenix. Maybe once the weather becomes nice again
Your edition of "foul days" is gorgeous! I'll try to pick up this book soon ! And your edition of the six of crows duology seems incredible ! I'm also really curious about the "dollmakers", can't wait to hear what you think of it ! Have a great day ^^!
I watch you and few other booktubers for recommendations then I make a wish list on Amazon, so I have the list everywhere I go, then I wait for them to go on sale, usually 6+ months after come out they go on sale, if wait a year they can be $10 or less, sometimes find good deals second hand…waiting doesn’t make the story less interesting, so I have a ton TBR now (some with audio) & great list to look for makes it even better when find deal. Just got the lake house hardback for $6 normally $21 & tress of the emerald sea hardback for $10 normally $25 both new copies anyway thx for more recommendations 👍🏻🤓
Dollmakers was an interesting read. I like the world building being trickled in after the initial small dump at the beginning. The middle of the book got a little muddy for me, but i think the start and finish were tremendous. Be prepared though, the main character is VERY UNLIKABLE and at times infuriating how much she misses the point.
Hello I've heard that the last war trilogy by Mike Shackle is akin to Abercrombie work As for Foul Days the 2nd book will be released on October 22 (you didn't mention it in your anticipated release so I thought you didn't know 😊)
I just finished The Last War trilogy. I can see the comparison, but I would say this might be more unrelenting in terms of dark content. The characters are good, but not as good as JA’s, and I would have loved a little humor like in JA’s. Also, the audio books are fine, but no one will ever beat Pacey’s rendition of JA’s works!
I go back and forth on how I feel about people upcharging special editions when they sell them second hand. On the one hand, I think it can get pretty ridiculous & it definitely annoys me. On the other hand, I can also understand when a special edition is truly hard to find second hand (like Sword of Kaigen or the illuminate green bone saga) & because it’s now “rare” people mark them up at least somewhat. That being said, what kind of infuriates me is when people go out of their way to buy special editions that they know will sell out ONLY so they can turn around and resell them. For example, I really wanted the Litjoy Crate edition of Ella Enchanted that came out this year but it sold out before it even made it to the general sale & people are already selling theirs second hand…like if you don’t genuinely want it, give other people the chance to get it for a reasonable price.
I'm reading A Sorceress Comes to Call and keep wanting to DNF it, but I think mostly because I had a very controlling mother and it's a little triggering... but it's T Kingfisher! I have to keep going bc I know it will pay off. I have had the same experience with her books opening my eyes to how good a shorter book can be! Also, I put Lonesome Dove on my TBR after seeing a whole thread of people on Reddit talking about how good it was. My mom was obsessed with that movie growing up so I would never watch it again, and would never have thought to read it, but soooo many people rave about it (already in the comments here too lol) so I want to give it a try.
I don't know if this would help or only make things harder for you, but you could create a business e-mail account where you'd only receive business stuff. I personally get very overwhelmed by receiving messages in general, so I have 2 different e-mails for different purposes. That allows me to prioritise and know what to check first :)
I'm at 2000 books on my book giveway at work in 9 months . I thrift them to make sure kids and teens are still reading. My last trip I spent 25 and got 218 books. I'm a host at applebees🎉

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater is another great one if you loved Race the Sands!
I second this!
Just wanted to let you know real quick that there is an Owlcrate edition of Monstrous Nights. It's on their website for pre-order now :D
I hate when people buy special editions and then sell them for 3x their value. Drives me crazy! Thanks for calling them out hahaha 😂 I also recently bought Lonesome Dove at a thrift store, but only because Michael from The Office says that it’s Holly’s favorite book 😂
Hey, I just preordered the sequel to Foul Days from Owlcrate, and they are a matching set. So you don’t have to worry about them mismatching 😉
A Sorceress Come to Call was one of my fav this year! I listened to the audio. Didnt like Nettle & Bone too much but I’m wanting to read all her books. I agree, the short fantasy stories are so fun.
When people read lonesome dove it automatically goes to their top 3 I’ve noticed… usually at number one… there must be something to it
When you mention how we hate when people upcharge books on pango reminds me when someone was selling their arc of Fourth Wing when it was all the rage. And someone else ACTUALLY BOUGHT IT FOR A THOUSAND DOLLARS. still stuns me to this day🤣

I always get my books from my local library! Nice shout out... We want to see your co-host Luna...🐕. She needs a chair/ bench 🤣

I would love to see library hauls!

I’m reading that edition of Foul Days 💙 the reversible dust jacket art is stunning
I’ll be lurking around for your lonesome dove review.

A Sorceress Comes to Call is definitely top tier.

You are going to love Lonesome Dove. The plot, the characters, and the setting were wonderful. I read it decades ago and still sticks with me.
Yes. Owlcrate did a special edition for the Foul Days sequel.
I adore wizards guide and sorceress so I must try nettle 😂
Lonesome Dove is great. I first read it years ago and just reread it and it holds up.
I’m reading that edition of The Spellshop right now, I’m loving it!
Your edition of "foul days" is gorgeous! I'll try to pick up this book soon ! And your edition of the six of crows duology seems incredible ! I'm also really curious about the "dollmakers", can't wait to hear what you think of it ! Have a great day ^^!
Ooo 12:16 dark peter pan retelling?? Sounds sick! Definitely adding to my tbr. Thanks for all the fun and unique recs!!
I really liked The Dollmakers!!

Can't beat the price of used books i would say 90 percent of our books are from second hand stores. Some awesome pick ups you got.
I got a copy of a rose by any other names as well! Sounds so interesting!
Thank you for saying Grisha the way you do! I say it that way too and was SO irritated about how they said it on the show.
Wow I did t read this but I watched lonesome dove with my dad growing up. Talk about throw back
Please read and review Lonesome Dove. So so good!!!! I’ve never liked westerns but it is an incredible read
I like Kingfisher's books they kind of feel semi autobiographical or at least she is the hero of her own stories.
I read sff almost exclusively. A friend talked me into reading Lonesome Dove. It was fantastic. I was really impressed. Don't get attached to anyone.
lonesome dove is goated!!

Hey Elliot Mike from Mike's Book Reviews loves Abercrombie and Lonsome Dove. I'd say he would know how similar they are.
