    Beside that, I'd say everything can be called "practical" if you give it a meaning.
    Even if that's a figurine or - in my case - a 3D-printed twisty puzzle. If you like the portal-thing and it at least looks great, that's something that already improved your living condition to the better!

    • @vagadesign83
      @vagadesign83 6 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      How much are you spending on your filament?! Yeah I agree some stuff is better off buying but I did a new shower head the other day and electricity + filament I think worked out at £1.10, I designed it based on a £200 one so I'm taking that as a win. That said I am waiting for it to break and my bathroom to flood lol.

    • @quentincampbell5865
      @quentincampbell5865 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      +Carl Hughes. Haha, I know the feeling. Is it going to last. Is it? Please last!
      But let me put in a another way: What is the cost in satisfaction that you designed and made it yourself? I'm busy with a sign board. 7 hours. Total waste of filament and time. But I made it!

    • @vagadesign83
      @vagadesign83 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Quentin Campbell. Well its lasted all week so far so I'm quite pleased, and its actually better than the one I had. Design time wasn't that intensive maybe 1hr or 2, print time was 8hr 3minutes, I printed it through the night, the quality is so much better than I expected but the best part of it is that I designed it off of my friends shower head and this one seams to work slightly better (smug much, oh indeedy :P), chairs and a desk next. What happened with your sign board? why was it a waste of time?

    • @quentincampbell5865
      @quentincampbell5865 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Carl Hughes. No, all good with the sign. I meant, I could have gone to the sign shop and have it made. But noooo, I printed one. Let's see how long PLA lasts in the sun. :)

    PS4 VR camera holder. The one that comes with is made to kinda fit at the bottom of the TV . While it is better at the top, tvs are angled on the back, they come curved and are sometimes wall mounted. You need to be able to adjust the camera holder to adjust vertical, horizontal and tilt to adjust for how close you are and how high up you sit. You also need to adapt how you attach it and secure it to the odd shape frame on the tv. Being able to adjust and tighten easily is important for it to be in the right position. I NEED one if you come up with something and a platform to sell them. Cool stuff.

    I think my most useful print that sees daily use would be Charlie1982's Origami Carabiner Clip. Sure it's like the bag clip in that you could buy 10 for like 50 cents or print one for 25 cents, but it's pretty strong, practical, and quick to print (2 hours at 0.1mm & 50% infill on my A8). That makes it a great gift idea for someone that's never seen a 3D printed part.

    Regarding issue in cleaning the bucket you mentioned, you could either cover the bucket sides with newspaper or spare a bucket for paint roller cleaning so no need to clean it

    Wut? It took 20 minutes to sketch up that simple part in fusion360?
    In this sentence you coinsidently mentioned a program that can do this in 1or 2 minutes.
    Sketchup is the perfect tool for simple geometry, architecture and boxes. Advanced programs are less time efficient, their only benefit is that they're more feature rich.

    • @lastplace199
      @lastplace199 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      sasja de vries. He overestimated the time it takes to model that part. It's nowhere near 20 minutes.

    • @expression3639

      lol sure.
      Methinks you have absolutely no clue about how Fusion 360 works and that you're 100% talking out of your ass.
      Look at his replay, it clearly didn't take 20 minutes to design it and there clearly is no elaborate modeling involved. Make 1 rectangle, make an offset of the rectangle to make a larger one, extrude the floor, extrude the walls, make a new sketch on the front side, project the box on the sketch, sketch a trapeze, fillet the trapeze, extrude-cut the rounded trapeze through the front face, create a sketch on the back face, sketch a slot, sketch a tiny circle for the screw, extrude it, fillet it, mirror it and done.

    • @ivanyidaniel9585
      @ivanyidaniel9585 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it can take 20 minutes if you have to measure while modeling... Thinking how it should look like, where to have the hangs, how big the front cut out should be... Of course if you have the final plan it is 2 mins of modeling.

      @@sheet-son I've had a magnetic mount attached to my phone for years now... Devices are not as fragile as they used to be. I remember when you could completely distort the picture on old tube televisions with a tiny little magnet lol. Magnetic frequencies have little to no influence on modern technology though. Don't be too afraid.

    • @tonpa8888

      woody wood the metal plate absorbs almolst all megetic fields, so there are no megnetic fields coming through and going into the phone.
      Personally, I use a similar method to hold my phone in the car!
