They also question him, unless he demands them to stop questioning him, it´s almost as if Kilgrave likes being questioned about his commands to a degree, like his enabling attempts of small talk.
I like that with the little girl, the "You too" wasn't enough of a command the first time, she was able to argue back that she had to go to the bathroom until he refined the command to be more specific. It's also a thing in the comics that certain people have a high enough willpower to be able to resist him, partially or fully. Since his first command was so weak, but still clear enough for the suggestible state he puts people in, I'd wager that little girl had a bit of a higher than average willpower, but not enough to notice otherwise.
Upon rewatching this show, I have realised that Kilgrave honestly is a character straight out of The Boys. He'd fit so unbelievably well in that world, and it'd be terrifying. He actually has a remarkably similar upbringing to Homelander, now that I think about it.

I think the best thing about David Tennant's performance here is the realisation of how quickly a person would lose their moral compass if they had THAT kind of power over others.
It's like playing a video game where everyone is an NPC meant to help you... all the time, forever. An adult would have serious problems maintaining morality like that, but he got it as a kid. No chance.
This power would take over you even if you have good intentions, can you imagine if you can tell people what to do, it would start small commands and you would actually end up abusing the power so much that losing the plot would be the eventual outcome. It's more a curse than a blessing.
93football4life yeah and you would have to be careful with how you say stuff without accidentally telling someone what to do. Or when you say metaphors such as ‘take a hike’ or ‘go break a leg’ the person would literally do that
That's the terrifying thing about mind control, it's morally questionable. It uses words as weapon, clouds the victim's judgment and takes away his/her free will. FREE WILL, which is basically one of the fundamental things that makes us human. That being said, it makes Kilgrave even more threatening as a perfect powerful villain because it's a super power we all kinda wish we had and no one should have that much power.
That's precisely the premise of The One Ring in Lord of the Rings. Frodo asks Gandalf to take it instead, but Gandalf says while he would initially try to use its power for good, it would ultimately manipulate him into performing unspeakable evils.
@@julianbeldham8684 I don't know about robbing banks, I've never been the type to abuse power for selfish or malicious purposes but I would definitely use it for sex. dealing with women and trying to win their respect to little avail due to a shy personality trait has kinda tainted my view of women and made me respect them less. because of that, I probably would have very little moral qualms about using that power to make them want to have sex with me.
What makes Kilgrave good is how, at his core, he's a person that never really had a chance to be good. He's a product of his upbringing. What makes him interesting is how he's self-aware enough to realise that and yet still doesn't try to become a better person. What makes him great is how sometimes, just for a moment, he does realise just how bad he is, and he does start to care... but it never lasts long enough to matter.
I would've loved if they had him say something like, "You don't have a superhero name? You should, look at you, you're a Jewel." Refercing when she went by Jewel at first in the comics before meeting Purple Man.
The scene at the restaurant at 6:50 is great because it was the first scene in the series that made me realize how mighty Kilgrave actually is. In fact he could be one of Marvel´s most powerful villains if he lived up to his potential.
I met David tennant at comic con! He’s a wonderful actor… nothing like kilgrave. He was very kind! It’s amazing to me that someone so kind and sincere can act so cruel!
TheYvesL. Actually I did that once in class except it went more along the lines of "Oh my God, Shut Up!!!" Then the whole room fell silent and i wasn't even the teacher.
Love that first scene where he just walks into the family's house, puts the kids in the closet and gets the parents to serve him their meal. "Be warned, I have a very particular palette."
i like how its not like they become robots when he commands them, like in most shows that have villains with this power. they still move and act naturally.
carolinestories - I found myself rooting for him, instead of Jessica, probably about halfway through the series. Jessica became the antagonist, with Kilgrave becoming the protagonist.
Yeah, it's really not not so simple as Kilgrave=bad and Jessica=good. A pronouncedly sadistic side surfaced in her when she had him in the holding cell...it went beyond retribution, and it definitely didn't seem like "justice." More like TORTURE. In fact all I could think about at the time was how we (the USA) justified waterboarding. It was disturbing and ugly.
I’ve rewatched those show so many times yet that first scene with him coming into a random families apartment and his face in shadow, is still terrifying!
I think one of the reasons why kilgrave is so terrifying is because he has a power so many of us desperately want, despite knowing what it will do to us. He’s an example of the true corruption of power, possessing qualities many can see in themselves
I love David Tennant as a villain. He was so malicious and sexy. I wanted to dislike him but his wit and charm made me root for him in some weird way. I hope he isn't really dead.

+Howyaduing Voiceless commands don't work, apparently; episode 10, Wendy didn't shut up when Kilgrave silently tried to shush her while Jeri was on the phone.
What I find interesting about his powers is what kilgrave says to Jessica about when he gave the command "take care of her" he said it was her choice to kill her so I do believe it's purely down to how the individual perceives the command It is quite interesting and it's shown with other commands like "put a bullet in your head" how it's completed upon putting a casing in their mouth
+Crichjo32 I liked him up until he took the serum. Funny thing, his character in the comics is a really not well known character; even I didn't know about him and I love comics. But that's kind of why he was a good villain. I really wanted to see Simpson get his in the end and that's what made him great :)
+Crichjo32 I liked him when he fell in love with Trish. Then he became obsessed with killing Kilgrave and became a douchebag. I wanted him dead at that point.
I reckon for Infinity War, Thanos should resurrect Kilgrave with the soul stone to use as his ally, but then Kilgrave should say "you will give me the gauntlet and go home" and then Kilgrave takes over the world with it
Rewatching this makes me so mad they didn't go with the children of Kilgrave storyline from the comics. They explain with Hope's fetus that his children will inherit some of his Gene's, so potentially his powers. In the comics he has several kids from multiple women he's raped throughout the years who inherit his powers. The most noteworthy is his daughter Kara who becomes a hero named Persuasion. Imagine a season with Kara tracking down Jessica to learn about her father because she wants to learn about what she is. We see her genuinely try and use these powers for good. We see how hard it is to live everyday life without accidentally commanding someone and the tremendous potential for good with this power. Not to mention the great exploration of what it's like to be raised as a child of rape and maybe Kara accidentally commanded her mother to tell her the truth and it just came out......so much potential wasted 😔😡
I never warmed to his Doctor (too cheeky-chappy and smug, not alien enough for me) but he's bloody fantastic in this. Honestly, he should just play villains forever.
Saaaaaame, i have a problem with all the doctors really but his one was the most annoying one to me, Eccleston was great, he actually looked like he cared for Rose (amazing chemistry between them also), he also was the most psychotic one (torturing "the last Dalek"). Tennant is just tooo dickless, he let a guy kill his daugther in front of him and he did nothing, in the christmas invasion the introduction to the 10th doctor, he says hes not a second chances man but they just threw that in the trash in the second season and onwards. M Smith seems like a good one, i can tell he actually shows a lot of emotion in the scenes i've seen, he does look, extremely silly sometimes, and i'm talking about the same person who used to wear broccoli as clothing. Capaldi...o fuck, he definetly seems like the most depressed one, also probably the one who most accepts his anger, top that in with his amazing chemistry with Clara and Capaldi's amazing charisma you've got my second favorite doctor, 1th being Eccleston.
Luke Sky walker that is actually how it would go, as the hulk is impervious to mind-control due to his split personality as the different aspects of the hulk and bruce banner.

His accent is absolutely lovely to listen to. Could listen to it all day.
it would be hilarious if at 2:00 "take care of her moment" Jessica started idk massaging her XD giving her food taking good care of her XD
MOST EPIC VILLAIN OF 2015! Hands down! MOVE OVER ULTRON
What about Zoom from The Flash?
+hpnc nope, Kilgrave can easily overpower any superhero/villian. He's just too OP
+hpnc killgrave is way better then zoom
+suzane peepoc Zoom would know about the Purple Man and take precautions.
+Antonio Dee Dr. Doom is completely immune to Kilgrave's power
I love how you can feel Killgrave's presence with purple in the background of scenes when he is controlling people from the shadows
I like how in the show killgrave wanted to know her hero name instead of her real one, yet in the comics he didn't ever want to know her hero name
They did that sort of reversal a few times. I enjoyed that.
Laura Kay
So this is what Barty Crouch Jr did after the Dementors sucked his soul out.
He fled to America and mastered the Imperius Curse
Is all this before of after he became a timelord?
Yes.
@@omegathekid4997 After being a demon but definitely before becoming a multi-trillionaire duck.
Fuccccckkk...I never realized he was in Harry Potter. I love HP!
I liked that he was not an over the top villain trying to rule the rule the world.
Am I the only one who is in love with his powers?!
No, you're happy because I love his powers too
me too !
I want his powers.
For good. Good purposes.
I'd probably just use it to get free food
Free food... 😂 😂
6:50 How much did I wished I could do that at times
+TheYvesL Ha me too, I've had fantasy dreams about doing that in my classroom at times... Agghh.
Wiizardii same here it be awesome
TheYvesL. Actually I did that once in class except it went more along the lines of "Oh my God, Shut Up!!!" Then the whole room fell silent and i wasn't even the teacher.
They didn't show him gettingthe pic... :(
yes
Love that first scene where he just walks into the family's house, puts the kids in the closet and gets the parents to serve him their meal. "Be warned, I have a very particular palette."
matthewakian2 chills 😬😰
@@TheKat018 That woman must´ve flexed half of her lifespan preparing his dish out of stress alone.
i like how its not like they become robots when he commands them, like in most shows that have villains with this power. they still move and act naturally.
LOL the power of persuasion and purple.
LOL at the purple car at 0:22. A subtle nod to purple man.
Remember when Tumblr fangirls tried romanticizing Kilgrave just because he was played by David Tennant?
@wearealltubes wait are u the same person lmao
@wearealltubes we all go through it at some point in our frigid rebellious fangirl teen era
I could never hate his character while watching the show, even to the end
Same maybe because he was my favourite doctor but I loved how he played the role
carolinestories - I found myself rooting for him, instead of Jessica, probably about halfway through the series. Jessica became the antagonist, with Kilgrave becoming the protagonist.
@@thec-m - Really????? I mean, Jessica is good and Kilgrave is cruel...
@@presentfuture7563 Kilgrave raped and murdered numerous people. No amount of torture is beyond retribution with him.
I’ve rewatched those show so many times yet that first scene with him coming into a random families apartment and his face in shadow, is still terrifying!
"Assholes try, I just do."
Arseholes try, I just do
So, that's the Kilgrave version of "Do, or do not. There is no try"?
carolinestories awesome line
I think one of the reasons why kilgrave is so terrifying is because he has a power so many of us desperately want, despite knowing what it will do to us. He’s an example of the true corruption of power, possessing qualities many can see in themselves
I love David Tennant as a villain. He was so malicious and sexy. I wanted to dislike him but his wit and charm made me root for him in some weird way. I hope he isn't really dead.

Okay, real talk - Kilgrave could be amazing if he used his powers for good.
"Put down that donut. Go work for a few hours. Like you mean it. Be sure to stay hydrated when you do so."
After my friend told me David Tennant, my Doctor from Doctor Who was in this show, I watched it asap and Tennant utterly scared me shitless as Kilgrave. Thanks to seeing the kind hearted and caring Tenth Doctor, it’s like seeing an evil and ruthless version of my favorite Time Lord.
They hit a home-run with this villain.
You can nail any interview even when you're unprepared!
Super useful

It's a virus that he somehow gets people infected with which makes them more submissive.
+Howyaduing Voiceless commands don't work, apparently; episode 10, Wendy didn't shut up when Kilgrave silently tried to shush her while Jeri was on the phone.
+adrimare1 oh ok forgot about that
+Howyaduing Nah, *In Episode 13* Patsy didn't fall under his commands because she was wearing headphones.
+Marcus Lane ok that makes more sense
"Arseholes try, I just do" *dead from laughter*
I lost it at "everybody quiet!!!" God I wish I have that superpowers 🤣
What I find interesting about his powers is what kilgrave says to Jessica about when he gave the command "take care of her" he said it was her choice to kill her so I do believe it's purely down to how the individual perceives the command
It is quite interesting and it's shown with other commands like "put a bullet in your head" how it's completed upon putting a casing in their mouth
The most dangerous man in the MCU. Imagine if he had his hands on Cap, or Thor or the Hulk...........oooh shivers!
His voice is so soothing... also I can get bits of 10's speech quirks from him. It gives me chills ^_^
After watching Luke Cage series
I really get why Luke loves Reva so much
She was his savior when he was in the lowest and darkest of his life
Man I really wish Simpson had jumped at 1:55. I fricken hated his character.
Me too
+Crichjo32 I liked him up until he took the serum. Funny thing, his character in the comics is a really not well known character; even I didn't know about him and I love comics. But that's kind of why he was a good villain. I really wanted to see Simpson get his in the end and that's what made him great :)
+Brendon Dellinger he's a lot cooler in the comics he's like The Punisher but on Steroids.
+Crichjo32 I liked him when he fell in love with Trish. Then he became obsessed with killing Kilgrave and became a douchebag. I wanted him dead at that point.
Same omfg
I think Kilgrave loves Jessica, but in a twisted way.....
Bruh that's his whole character.
+Max Dai More like obsessed...
+Max Dai thanks, captain
Nah he just has a Gilgamesh complex. Jessica is the only thing he couldn't have so he grew fascinated with her.
He does, to him everything is static Jessica is the only thing that moves in his world
I reckon for Infinity War, Thanos should resurrect Kilgrave with the soul stone to use as his ally, but then Kilgrave should say "you will give me the gauntlet and go home" and then Kilgrave takes over the world with it
Warbo stfu soy boy
Thanos is too powerful for Purple Man....he would laugh that shit off and kick his ass to Sakkar
Jeremy King Thanos can still get manipulated from Kilgrave but he just might kill him before Kilgrave and even say anything
Kilgrave with the Infinity Gauntlet is a scary thought.
Even if he could, that Gauntlet would kill Kilgrave the first time he used it. Not just any random person can using something that powerful.
Ok best marvel villain
THERE IS ONLY DOOM
Him, Thanos and Patsy.
@@IiImonix3 Doom has yet to be done well in live action so we will have to wait before we can say doom is best.
@@vice2versa It sucks man, in comics, cartoons, and games, he's done so well. But for some reason I guess he's too complicated for hollywood.
Killgrave is so fucking OP when you think about it
Watching luke cage now, Reva was a beautiful person. Knowing how her final days would go is heartwrenching while seeing her get to know Luke.
I've never felt more intimidated by David Tennant.
I love the shut up part. XD
I keep seeing Killgrave as the 10th Doctor who didn't want to regenerate so he became this. Valeyard like.
Noooo He became TIME LORD VICTORIOUS
After this, I can't view him as the Doctor in the same way again
3:41 DONNA NOBLE
SHHSS
Wop wop Hahahaha!! Had the same reaction!!
Jessica Jones S1 is one of the best TV expiernce of all time
Such a dangerous enemy and he doesn't even need to lift a finger.
You can see everyone screaming internally every time he gives an order.
You could always write a fanfic.
That would solve just about everything.
It's not like hope is the only girl he has fucked/raped
TOO FUCKIN DARK
Jessica is most likely going to appear in the future and this is great storyline I hope they use.
this actor 👏 🙌
they way he stepped on the kids car!!!!

I really want david to play the joker, I think he can pull it off
I don't think so. Not crazy enough or eccentric, in my opinion. The Riddler would suit him better.
sparky10142 no
+Coralie HERDOUB I agree, he would make a good riddler
He really couldn’t
sparky10142 that’s exactly why I’m here
Damn, right from the first scene this guy makes me feel thoroughly creeped out. David Tennant is one of the best actors on TV in the past 20 years.
You can replicate Kilgrave's power by simply starting every sentence with "Simon says...."
Miraculous ladybug
“With great power comes great responsibility”
-Purple Man
It's realistic. Some people are charismatic irl without the mind control and are able to manipulate through charm, looks, and words alone.
Poker bit was my favorite part.
Imagine the twist being everyone is just being really polite and he doesn't have superpowers
I never warmed to his Doctor (too cheeky-chappy and smug, not alien enough for me) but he's bloody fantastic in this. Honestly, he should just play villains forever.
H LP - What did you think of Christopher Eccleston and Matt Smith?
His mind control makes his character even better.
best villain ever wish he didnt die so early
Hulk vs Killgrave
Hulk: Grrr
Killgrave: Sit I said, I said SIT!
Hulk: HULK SMAH
Killgrave: Oh shit
Hulk: Hulk hate stupid mind controller.
Luke Sky walker that is actually how it would go, as the hulk is impervious to mind-control due to his split personality as the different aspects of the hulk and bruce banner.
part of what makes kilgeave so good is that he is such a seedy creepy dude but david tennant is so impossibility likeable and fantastic
Yet again Tennant knocks it out of the park we need him in the MCU for real
Possesses super powers that can make him the king of the universe.
Decides to waste them simping.
lmao for real! If i had these powers maaaaaaaaan.....
Yeah case by the time he met Jessica he had everything he wanted except for a super powered GF
I'd be a Trillionaire
My man crush has definitely got to be David Tennant
Tenth Doctor...Master edition!
Heś sooo fine with with the villian act and accent
The only villain to ever portray disturbing vibe with humor
Kilgrave was a great character! David Tennant did an amazing job! He's insane!
The only reason to watch this show = Kilgrave
I watched it for Jessica. But Kilgrave was a great villain.
I literally only watched it for Kilgrave, haha!
I wish I had his power, so I could get hot guys to have sex with me.
Yeah I did watch it only for him
0:04 - Wait, I'm confused, is he the Doctor, Kilgrave, or a Jedi?
all of them he is a Wizard to Bydaway
No he’s a wizard using the 3 unforgivable curses
He’s also in How to Train a Dragon. I also did not know he was in the Ahsoka series.
Easily the most terrifying Marvel villain.
When you think about it, Kilgrave is the most dangerous MCU villain because he can easily manipulate the biggest MCU villains and heroes and use them to kill everyone practically. HELL for all we know he can manipulate Thanos!
