I think what scares me the most about this album is Claudio has come out and said that this is the most personal album he's ever written and the book that came with the deluxe edition goes into how each song stemmed from a real event. At some point he felt this way, he felt this hopelessness and regret, this lonlieness, just like many of us connecting with the song have. Scary and comforting at the same time.

every Coheed song always gives me this feeling of loss of innocence, self recognition of ones failures yet hope of triumph in the end... just my feelings on their music but i dig it

Conceptually, this song takes place in the part of the story where Sirius returns home, and when he's driving with his wife Meri, she confesses her new relationship and tells him she's three months pregnant. In shock, he loses control and crashes the car, killing Meri and her unborn child.
Sirius considers suicide, but gets a new ship and goes back into the keywork to try to help Meri transcend into the Semaritame, where the enlightened spirits live.

I have never connected with a song in my entire life like I have with this. I tear up every time I listen to this; it's is not music, it is art. People don't often understand why I'm such a big Coheed fan and it's because of stuff like this. I can be depressed for weeks but all it takes is 5 minutes of them to pick me up and urge me to keep going. I feel as if I owe Claudio and the rest of the band for what they do, so I give my heart and soul in supporting them. I have never been disappointed.

This song reminds me of when I was in a deep depression and was beating myself up so hard over it. I wasn’t eating, I was sleeping a lot. I tried to work out at the gym to cope with the pain and loneliness. It just takes time to overcome everything. Sometimes you have to hit your lowest point just to grow.

You fought to withdraw from a location which has inside of it, severe quantifiable pain. Nearly terminated the mission. Nearly terminated your life. Yet, you desire to set a course back to it. I am not equipped to comprehend human rational. Sirius, is this what love is?

It was about eight months ago whens he left me and I knew why. She walked out because i wasn't there for her. I gave everything but not to her. to myself. I forged the selfish monster I am, I ignored her and I let her walk away. I couldn't face it...kept blaming her. Kept saying it was her fault. She should have conformed to me. She did. She gave so much to me and all I did was take and take and take. She was wonderful and I just couldn't bring myself to be what she wanted..the small things she desired I couldn't...or wouldn't give. Now I sit alone...crushed beneath my own shame and guilt. I can't share myself with others anymore...now that I know what I am. I can't let people know what i am. This song has literally painted out the last eight months of my life. I don't know how it did...but it did. it also helped me cope with it all. Helped me keep going. I wanted to die, wanted to succumb to that darkness inside of me. I still have my issues....but thank you guys...thank you for making a song that stopped me from making a mistake everyone else would have to live with. Thank you.

I went to a concert in a city that my ex at the time lived in, and yes I saw her at the same show. She passed by me like I was never there, and I tried to play it off but when I drove home I had Afterman in the cd player and this started to play, needless to say I had tears in my eyes that remained for a good portion of the drive.

Doesn't matter, Coheed is timeless. It never gets old. Whether you listen to it all now, or on Feb 5th, it will stand the test of time. I guarantee you in 5 years you will still be headbanging and singing your heart out to this album as if you had just bought it. I bought IKSSE:3 and SSTB in 2004 and I'm still doing that with them (not too mention everything since).

Why-ever the Afterman album's can relate to me, I will never know, but it's amazing and it's made me feel better. Between losing a best friend, dealing with stress, a girl I like, dealing with people being mean etc. etc. this has made all the answers clear. This song and the Afterman however are both absolutely incredible and I've never been more thankful by finding this band, but nobody understands why I like them. Everything becomes clear!
    Thanks Claudio!

Some of the folk who have posted might not have known, but this album is the sequel to The Afterman: Ascension. It's totally righteous to see that there are so many people that still love coheed. Something that can make the music of this band even more enjoyable is to got out and learn the story of all of the albums. Claudio Sanchez is extremely creative, and the story he has created is amazing. Love the music, love the band, love the story. One Among the Fence

According to Josh's twitter, "while recording Dark Side when the song 1st came together we thought it'd be cool to have lil Coheed DNA from records past in there" Good guy Josh being awesome with Coheed again.
