Its been six years yet I still come back to this piece. It's one of the most moving and powerful poem. I'm surprised it doesnt have more views. He deserves recognition.
This is the hardest I've wept for a poem; I can almost feel the sequel pushing-up on the keys of my laptop. I can see me blowing smoke into a hookah until fresh piles of tobacco appear. We moonwalk out of my friends house and several blocks to the gate, as rocks jump against the guard tower, then rain down into the hands of masked youth. The canisters suck-up tear gas and fly into the turret window -- gone. I push my butt through the door and open all the windows to our office and.... we're all together inside again.
Either im teary eyed cuz im pregnant, or he just said something so amazing, so visual, so unique, and so touching that allowed me to see airplanes rising from the sea, and i felt like his friend was mine. im in awe!!! thanks
This was amazing. I hope to see more from him because he has so much passion and words things so beautiful while fitting in just the right amount of humor.
I've watched this at least once every couple of months for the last several years. I am moved by it every time. It is one of the greatest pieces of art I have ever seen.
Actually if you rearrange the 4th dimensional time line you could relive your entire life out of order not necessarily from end to beginning, but you could live it starting from the middle and then ending with the end and the beginning would be the middle because you would then be weaving in-and-out of your own 4th dimensional timeline
Sometimes I want to watch button poetry but I'm unsure if the poetry will discuss issues that will make my anxiety worse or trigger my ptsd. If you could have a couple of sentences in the description with a content note thatbwould be really good. E.g. Content note- death, alcholism, violence against women.
This is actually a really good idea. It only takes a moment. Plus, BP already notes when there are non-binary/genderqueer/trans poets, and has their pronouns in the description, so I don't think it's too much of a stretch.
Yeah, there was an awful lot about drug addiction and suicide in this poem - exactly stuff that I have struggled with and don't need a melodramatic poet to stir up. Well-intentioned, but good lord!
speaking of time. wait. time doesnt exist. points of reference do. if time doesnt exist. I begin looking at a whole new version of this poem. an even trippier one.
Benjamin Button is about a man who was born old and ages backwards. This is more akin to watching a video on rewind and trying to reclaim a friend he's lost to drug abuse.
Admittedly, this piece is more akin to Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathon Safran Foer, which I hadn't read until after writing this piece. Indeed, though, the idea of reliving or taking back events to restore everything to how it used to be, to reclaim a state of innocence, is a common theme in art. Thank you for watching and commenting!
And the poppy sinks in and in to the rich earth until there is only the seed. And a hand scatters that seed over the dirt. And the hand pulls back into a bag of seeds. And the bag of seeds falls to the ground. And the sower falls to the ground as the bomb shakes the earth.
This would be the beginning of the poem not the end of it, it would be recited by the you the audience, as I stood on stage I would listen with my ears and my dumb mouth wide open, the poem pushing itself back into me, and it wouldn't end until complete profound silence.
Brilliant poem, it would have been cool if you used palindromes for humour :) but at the same time, I suppose the poem was more serious than that, either way I loved it great message and great structure.
Wow that hit me really hard. The emotion in his eyes was just so raw and real.
if you don't feel something when he says Mckenzie flowers, you are dead inside.
Jesse Higgason my skin crawls everytime I watch it and he says that.. I actually can never wait until that part comes up
whelp I guess im dead
That poem was something else and I have no words to say as if they've been pushed back into my mouth
Ell Guerin Wow😭

The heroin, being pushed back into poppies: this is magnificent.

Just wow.. You feel his energy flowing out of his words. It's so beautifully made.
I am speechless and dumbfounded...
That was amazing.
Words are just words but added with passion, incredible. Amazing. Passionate. Moving.
I'm covered in goose bumps.
I don't know how these people in the audience sum up the strength to cheer at the end of a poem like this.
Truly breath-taking. That was amazing.
This piece is even stronger in person he visited my high school writing class about a year ago. I was in awe when he did this piece.
I... I think this may be the best slam poem I have ever heard in my life.
This deserves to be one of Button Poetry's most viral videos. This is a fantastic poem.

I wish I could
Everyone who hasn't - see the movie "Benjamin Button". It's on this exact topic.

Kind of melodramatic but still good.

I'm so confused
yaya
Holy fuck.
but ofc the concept he speaks of exists.
its 4d backwards.
4d is time to 3d humans.
is 5d time to 4d humans??
by time I mean..event passage.

Wow.
