Campmode tip…. Tesla Camp Mode Additional car setup changes I made in addition to campmode Create a new local driver profile call it campmode. Adjust seat for best mattress fitment so boot closes and gives good head space, you do have to manually adjust passenger seat but at least you have a reference point for each time you setup Turned off sentry altogether while parked, I know camp mode turns this off when in use but didn’t need it while camping either. Turned off auto lights, ambient lights, stearing wheel lights, turned screen brightness down, turned off lock sound. All within the local profile. Hopefully Tesla will add these into a software update to camp mode.
Regarding the window covers, I'd suggest you put the foil side out to block the sun, but foil side in at night, not only to keep some warmth in, but also so that it's not so obvious to those outside that there's someone sleeping inside. The black facing out just looks like black tint after dark.
How amazing that you managed to keep hold of the camera all night and it happened to be pointed at your head and recording when the alarm went of and you woke up! 😂
17:56 whenever i sleep in my tesla, i just put it on screen clean mode after turning on camp mode so i don't have to wait for it to black by itself, alternatively theres covers for the screen that you can buy that you put over the screen, kinda like a glove to achieve a blacked out effect.
@@MBrown Thought i'd give you another useful tip i've used when camping in my Tesla that might come in handy one day. Camp mode will only stay on till the battery reaches 20%, after that it won't engage. To somewhat override this, you can start any game in tesla arcade, turn the volume all the way down, then minimise the game and set your climate control on. As long as that game is active (even when minimised) the climate control will stay on. And you can ofcourse still activate screen clean mode to black out the screen (even with the game minimised). The only Major downside to this trick is the climate will stay on UNTIL YOU TURN IT OFF. Had a close call once where i fell asleep with 10% charge, and woke up with 1% charge left 😂😂😂 luckily there was a charger near by.
Brings back memories as we used to camp at Whitehill Farm with a trailer tent when the kids were young between 1991 to 2000. Would love to do this with Model Y, but I'm too old for camping now, unfortunately. Nice car and video.
Good video. I find it funny, saying at 16:50 that the car has to double the temperature from 9 Celsius to 18 Celsius. Makes no sense from a physics point of view.
Great vlog thanks Mark. Just bought a Tesla model Y recently and looking to use it for camping and this helped a lot. I do think it’s worth paying a little extra for a quality sleep. Great part of the world Torbay too.
It's really good that you did a full end-to-end experience review of it. I thought you might skip over the packing-up portion which is something a lot of people often overlook with experiences like this.
I would generally not use Auto camp mode ..you can use as little as 8% over the night including ventilation to a roof tent using campstream if settings are non a/c and low fan
@MBrown as far as I've used it (many road trips at different altitudes) the circulation of air is the only requirement to stop condensation. But by all means test it yourself and see. I too was expecting to wake up with an interior fog, but surprisingly non was present.

I noticed there was a rv plug outlet. In the united states we have plug adapters so you can plug your car in all night and leave in the morning without losing much percentage on battery depending on outside temperature. Thanks for letting me know how much lose if not plugged in overnight.
You could have taken the Tesla charger out and plugged it into the power station that was behind the car and you would have run the HVAC off shore power and lost no charge overnight. Just for information. You can't use a Tesla to camp in at ANY Camping & Caravanning Club Site. You are not allowed to sleep in your car, even with blinds.
I heard you are slanting slightly downwards when lying down. To address this, other TH-camrs have advised to place two equal sized stoppers underneath the back tyres (reverse over it). This way you are flat. Don’t know if that makes sense ha

Silver side in is the correct orientation for cold night. Silver side reflects heat to keep it inside and saves a bit of battery energy. Even more important at -20C, I guess in emergency
Hey Michael, quick question so it’s not too noisy within inside the car and I did record a better video that I didn’t include from outside the car and it’s very very quiet you can barely hear the Aircon, it’s not like when the car is preconditioning so not too bad at all 👍
Great question, just got back from a 5 week European road trip in my model 3 2024 and this was my main issue when sleeping in the car. I haven’t seen anyone else talk about it. From the outside you are hardly hear anything (I got out the car a few times to check at different locations) but on the inside (when you have the fan on level 1-2 speed, anything over 2 is noisy) I find that there is a low noise that changes pitch after a minute or so. It must be the heat pump kicking in that was disturbing me. I think it happens more when the outside temperature is higher than the required inside temperature, which was mostly the case for me in August in France and Spain. After a few nights I started wearing earplugs and that worked for me. I don’t normally wear earplugs to sleep but found it comfortable quite quickly.
Hey so it’s partially true, if you lock the car using your app the doors can still be opened from the outside as technically your car sees the phone is close by. So what you need to do is lock the car using the lock button on the screen rather than your app and this resolves that issue
@@MBrown Thanks, wasn’t aware of that. Luckily there wasn’t anyone around the woods when I had my one night trial run. (Escaping peak-heatwave in the summer. 🥶💤👍)
Ok after reading every comment to make sure this wasn’t said before. To turn off the screen just turn it off. Under safety you find Power Off or just simply search for “power” and press “Power Off”. It wil ask you are you sure? It wil just shutdown the touch screen/media center and will save you another 1 percent or so in 8 hours. Don’t worry camp mode just stays on. The lights on the steering wheel and doors will go out after a few minutes.
@@MBrownI know, the prompt with the extra confirmation makes it very official. 😊 But it’s just the touchscreen that will shutdown. You will hear the fans still going. I used it last Saturday in norway. Did not have any issue sleeping 8 hours.
lol😂 just take a tent or book into hotel / b and b. Not very practical especially if set up and you want to pop out or you have a lot of gear let alone moving kit in and out of the car. But far enough in an emergency or if it’s your thing enjoy. We’ve got back after a weeks camping in Normandy witch was a wee bit wet but enjoyed it nevertheless. With the rangy we fitted everything in and tons of space to spare, also the tail gait is amazing being able to picnic of the back is fun and comfortable, not many other cars you can do that. The point a big benefit of a tent it gives you a more permanent structure/ base especially if staying more than one night or have gear in wet weather. Charging tech, several options some campsites have pitch power, or use a power bank or the car, the rangy has loads of power options like in the boot for the fridge. The other key benefit is being close to nature with minimal isolation, not every one cup of tea. But horses for courses
Hey great comment thank you, your trip sounded great. Yes, I agree you wouldn’t want to do this for more than a night or two and it’s handy if you’re just may be popping somewhere for an evening and then coming back the next day not a lot of room for a full holiday But for an odd night hearing there I think I could do it 👍

@@MBrown Oh wow, never would of guessed 3 different cameras. Nice matching the videos.
@@SkyDomeVIZE Cheers thank you!
Next time pop down to Salcombe.
Hey yes I’ve been there before, really nice place
Are you filming this on an osmo pocket 3 and what tripod are you using ?
So for this video I used a Sony ZV-E1 and an DJI action 4
Would be great to find out the tripod setup any chance of a video setup video
@@moviekidtechlife sure thing I might do a tech video soon
Luckily Tesla provided even camp fire. At least some improvement to that unusual camp site.
👍👍
Eye mask is the word you're looking for
Cheers Chris that’s the one
does ur 1k promo work for US?
Hey yes this should work for US too if you click and then change to US
My main concern would be how
Much noise the cars makes in camp mode. Is it loud, and would it bother the others around you at night. Beers.
Hey Michael, quick question so it’s not too noisy within inside the car and I did record a better video that I didn’t include from outside the car and it’s very very quiet you can barely hear the Aircon, it’s not like when the car is preconditioning so not too bad at all 👍
@@MBrown great thanks. Wouldn’t want to be the guy keeping everyone awake at a campsite. 😂
Now we buy luxury cars to camp in
Comes with all the mod cons like movies
I can’t do it. I hear you can’t lock the doors in camp mode. Is that true?
You can lock the car. The benefit of camp mode is it disables interior and movement sensors.
eyeshades.
That’s the one 👍
Uuh, no one is going to mention that you can't watch TV unless you're a vampire!? Tesla mattress can't compensate for the incline!?
Yes, there’s actually a new mattress coming out soon from a different company which allows for the angle so looking forward to trying that out
Ok after reading every comment to make sure this wasn’t said before.
I thought the shutdown or power off actually turned off the entire car, not just the screen?
@@MBrownI know, the prompt with the extra confirmation makes it very official. 😊 But it’s just the touchscreen that will shutdown. You will hear the fans still going. I used it last Saturday in norway. Did not have any issue sleeping 8 hours.
Looked like the top of a mankini for the stand up paddle board!
Ha ha, yes, that was just my backpack with my towel in
lol😂 just take a tent or book into hotel / b and b.
Yes, I agree you wouldn’t want to do this for more than a night or two and it’s handy if you’re just may be popping somewhere for an evening and then coming back the next day not a lot of room for a full holiday But for an odd night hearing there I think I could do it 👍
Do you do this with all videos? No one is saying this is the ultimate camping experience and we are all familiar with tents. Fool of a took.
I would have subscribed to your channel but that stupid music in the background is too annoying
Oh sorry to hear that, some of my videos don’t have music but as this is a long one I think it’s nice to have a bit of music to keep the attention, especially over a fairly boring subject like this 😆
