I wanted to watch something nostalgic and this wonderful jewel came up. The very talented Victoria Wood-Poet, writer, comedian, and actress all roll into one. The brilliant Julie Walters, Celia Imrie, Duncan Preston, Thora Hurd, and the cast. What can I say? Victoria was one of the reasons I watched TV. She brought a lot of 'feel-good fun programs': Victoria Wood presents; An Audience with Victoria Wood, even This movie here, inspired the very successful DINNER LADIES sitcom. (Which to me had a splash of a 'Carry on' theme). 🤣 Julie Walters was brilliant in that
      More from Victoria was:
Acorn Antiques, (Celia Imrie and Duncan Preston) Excellent in that. The Mall, (Another funny from the 3 talented women).
More: Happy Since I Met You, Talent, Victoria Wood's all-day breakfast. The list goes on and on...TO MANY TO LIST.
She was even a big part of Patricia Routledge, who is brilliant, may I had (Hyacinth Bouquet-Keeping up appearances). Patricia had her own 2-minute on-corner sketch as 'Kitty' in Victoria Wood's show. This spring boarded her 'Hyacinth' character.
Yes, Victoria had some dark patches in her writing, but that's what made her special, she was real and she covered all angles in life.
What I loved is that the similar cast were, all involved in Victoria's Sketches and movies one way or another.
Anyone lucky enough to have worked with her was catapulted, inspired, or moved upwards to other things, thanks to her.
Glad I had the pleasure of enjoying her shows back then. "We don't make them like that anymore do we?" Pity...
RIP Victoria Wood. The girl next door- Good night

I love this film. It would have been so easy (and cheap) to condemn the rich, spoilt sister - which was what the whole film was building up to for at least half an hour - and it still would have made for a good film. But Victoria Wood, being Victoria Wood, went so much deeper than that. The world of entertainment is a sadder place for her departure.

I'd forgotten all about this until it started. What a fabulous programme it was, and all down to the brilliant writing of Victoria Wood. Also, the acting. Imrie, Walters, and Wood, what a trio, and one-third of the Dinnerladies cast here, remember! And we all know what a fantastic programme that was. Tragic that Victoria Wood had to leave us so relatively young. It is telling that nobody has come forward to replace the gap left by Dinnerladies and a testament to Victoria's superior talent. The same can be said for The Vicar of Dibley, by the way.
Thank you so much for putting Pat and Margaret here on the Internet. Hell will probably freeze over before the BBC air it again.

You know a film is really good when you look it up on TH-cam to remind yourself of a detail, and end up watching the whole thing through.

Victoria Wood later admitted in her South Bank show interview that Pat & Margaret represented the two sides of her personality. Victoria also apparently offered Duncan Preston's role first of all to Jim Broadbent but he turned it down. Julie Walters had to intervene with Victoria to get Duncan Preston the part, but Victoria still insisted that he do an audition, something which very much annoyed him given that they'd worked together a lot in the past and she knew his acting.

I miss her so very much. She really deserves the love she received and I still shed a tear or two for the most wonderful singer actress and entertainers of the 80s 90s and 00’s. Please keep her work alive You Tube members. And to see so many others even
Thora Hird. A reminder that not so long ago life was much happier.

    A thought-filled story,
    so realistically and
    convincingly portrayed.
    Deep regrets, unfinished
    emotional " business"....
All the characters : so believable.
No weak links that I could detect !
    Really good ☺️.
    I'm sure Victoria would have
gone on to write many more
    realistic dramas....
I've seen many a Hollywood film
    that leave you disappointed,
    because of shallow, unlikely
    stories....We lost a
    National Treasure...😢.
    🇬🇧😢🥀☺️🌈🦉🥀🇬🇧
