Good job, boys!! Also, years ago, two of my best summers (18th and 19th) were spent operating equipment at a local limestone quarry in NW Ohio. I ran an international TD25 dozer and a Cat (can’t remember model) with a 1 1/2 cy bucket. Also, a mix of other misc. equipment. Lordy, did I have fun... AND they paid me!!
Perry Smith Actually the NA engines were rated @. 200-210 Hp if I remember correctly. That was a highway rating. After Cat started manufacturing the turbo charged engines the Hp rating went to 300 Hp in motorhome type applications which used an air to air cooler core type application. On highway type trucks (produce delivery etc.) were rated at 225-250 Hp In the beginning. As far as a sleeveless type block you correct but Cat had oversize pistons where you would just send the block to the machine shop and have the block bored oversize. Then reassembled with OS pistons.

Wear guard cheaper than buying whole new shank. That what it basic is. Fab? Welder? You might know & understand then. We do lots & very Lots of hard facing metal on these type of equipment. Everything big bucks get into these big boy's. We still going through lots turbo's on our D-11's, I Think we got it fixed now. Very lot dust around engine area in heavy rock. Hard working move lot material quick dozer.

Not a 3208 which is 210-435HP but rather a 3508 which is spec'd out at 850 Flywheel HP (935 Gross HP) for a D11R. They should also be running a counterweight up front to keep the dozer level on its tracks, especially with that extra wing on the ripper. You can see how bad the machine is squatting to the rear. Speaking of weights that's a push block on the back of the ripper not a weight. The ripper will suck itself down when set at the correct angle.
Always amuses me when a company owns millions of dollars worth of Iron and knows basically nothing about the actual equipment. Just more proof business is run by the billing department not the technical department

9:52 - that actually IS a standard tractor GPS it's a Trimble EZ guid 250, it's literally one of the most common tractor GPS's out there, we had one for spreading, there are used in tractors all the time and there's nothing fancy about it, it's a bare bones, simplistic GPS, and the deviation thing he talked about is all stuff you can set easily in tractor GPS systems from ag leader, raven, and John Deere (as well as others)
I've seen out near Fireball and Bill's Palace where they would Hook Up 3D Nines in the rear ones would have two big claws and they would pull the final one with the claws to break the hardpan and they would pull slabs out of the ground is biggest cars and then they were using to stack them up and make entryways to their ranches
It sure creeks a lot. I'd also figure out a way to retain the retracted blade cylinders to keep the dust off them. No reason to get them dirty if they don't have to.
we use to use katmatsu 455 to do ripping, they had a better track setup for straight ripping, or hook two 355 in tandem to pull the ground that a single d11 couldn't do, you also see two d10's together to pull some areas in madera and westside Fresno

do you find less sprocket wear with the high track compared to the sprocket in the ground, and does the chain wear more as it get bent more times compared to oval track or because it's not bending 180 its mitigates the wear?

It requires a longer track and drives the track at an angle instead of parallel to its travel as an end-drive would do. Also: How is GPS used and how are the runs back and forth planned out?
having the final drive up high has certain advantages as to what the machine is specd to work for. theyre called a hi track and are good for torque, more leverage on the track, they'll usually come with the wide track package for more traction to go along with it which these people would definitely need and another benefit for them is because like he said the ground is so abrasive that it also helps to keep the final drive out of the sand more so the sprocket (the part with the teeth that integrate with the track) wear slower. its always cheaper to replace a idler (the smooth wheels in the track) than a sprocket when they wear out
The wheel is up high because then you can walk up the track to get to the cab. Thats obvious. The GPS is to help ensure you are still in the right paddock.

Work in a mine in northern Alberta, brand new D11T's, work on them every day n here n there a D8R or 10R or 11R rolls into the shop, thank christ they leave, pain in the ass to work on, the new ones are way more mech friendly to work on but the emission systems are pure junk, brutal, cant imagine a private buisness owning one. With winter around the corner cant wait for the temps to hit neg 48 n the Cat starts to bark.

The veroa mite can be treated for. The water “shortage” in California is a result of decades of environmentalists getting their way over our farmers. The stories we all hear on the news are part of an agenda.
I used to do this on a D9, and you are constantly playing to see how perfectly straight you can make your passes, as the ground keeps trying to move you around. Sometimes we were running two shifts, and at night on super long fields I would put a Coleman lantern at on end every 6th pass, so I would aim just to the right on one pass, follow the tracks back headed away, then aim for the lantern, follow back, then aim just to the left of the lantern, move the lantern over, and then follow the tracks back. This way I would reset the line every other pass, and avoided compounding errors. It was especially fun on super dusty fields where you couldn't see the ground because the dust was so thick. You would be getting occasional glimpses of the last pass is all. Oh to do it again in an 11, with an enclosed cab and A/C! Lol
For more weight & traction, leave the dozer blade on... but I'm sure you thought of that. Is there's a gauge in the cab monitoring track slippage? That clicking sound ?
@@red1bong I run a d10 for a living so it dosent take much away for me. And yes as strange as this sounds I forgot about the tracks, it's kind of always there so it becomes something that I ignore until it makes a bad noise. Nothing like hearing that POW then nothing but a turn.
What you're not taking into consideration is that it's Drone footage and all you would hear without the music overlay is the high-pitched buzzing noise of the little props going buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz

Did you ever consider of removing that ripper on the back and attaching a big cultivator or a chisel plow? It seems to be better than a big bud tractor.
A brand new Cat D11 starts at around $2. million. It's almost never charged by the hour. These dozers are used on large, and often lengthy jobs. Therefore, they are normally leased, or charged by the job. If you were to pay an hourly rate for this size dozer, you should expect to pay $500+ per hour
I know these machines are big but seeing people right next to them really shows how massive they are.

A 3208 has 636 cubic inches where a 3508 has 2105 cubic inches. Just a little difference in horse power. Love that yellow iron.

You can get a peak of the valve covers which are definitely not from a 3208

You wouldn't believe it but the tip protector on my D10 fell of the other day.. only took 2 minute and and a hand from the fitter to get it back on

This all started with Collins and Barger land leveling. They leveled the Tulare lake bottom in the 60's and 70's. Cat was king.

That fine soil can wear stuff out fast, but wow does it shine up the tracks!
If you own a D11 the tracks should never sit long enough to get dull or rusty. You would have to keep it booked with work 24/7 to make a profit.

We hire out for this deep ripping. The Fowler Brothers do custom work for farmers. We hire them just for that one time of deep ripping.

I used to do this on a D9, and you are constantly playing to see how perfectly straight you can make your passes, as the ground keeps trying to move you around.
Sometimes we were running two shifts, and at night on super long fields I would put a Coleman lantern at on end every 6th pass, so I would aim just to the right on one pass, follow the tracks back headed away, then aim for the lantern, follow back, then aim just to the left of the lantern, move the lantern over, and then follow the tracks back.
This way I would reset the line every other pass, and avoided compounding errors.
It was especially fun on super dusty fields where you couldn't see the ground because the dust was so thick.
You would be getting occasional glimpses of the last pass is all.
Oh to do it again in an 11, with an enclosed cab and A/C! Lol
Its all about making the big 💰 money !
For more weight & traction, leave the dozer blade on... but I'm sure you thought of that. Is there's a gauge in the cab monitoring track slippage? That clicking sound ?

@@red1bong I run a d10 for a living so it dosent take much away for me. And yes as strange as this sounds I forgot about the tracks, it's kind of always there so it becomes something that I ignore until it makes a bad noise. Nothing like hearing that POW then nothing but a turn.
What you're not taking into consideration is that it's Drone footage and all you would hear without the music overlay is the high-pitched buzzing noise of the little props going buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz

A brand new Cat D11 starts at around $2. million. It's almost never charged by the hour. These dozers are used on large, and often lengthy jobs. Therefore, they are normally leased, or charged by the job. If you were to pay an hourly rate for this size dozer, you should expect to pay $500+ per hour
