New cta rail cars look to be a bit of most of the past rail cars 2200 series windows 2400 series front end of rail car body style 2600 series and 3200 series chains at end of car and corrugated sides also they have the cta color scheme I remember the days of the stripes on the sides of the el trains definitely a train car to fall in love with if you are a series rail transit buff !
I wonder why CRRC and Bombardier went to all that effort to design and implement a kneeling system for the trains when they could’ve just built the trains with the floor height a couple of inches lower... that would’ve saved them the money and effort of designing and maintaining a hydraulic kneeling system. Seems a bit like overkill IMO. Also, why were the marker lights on at the back of the train at 8:58? Shouldn’t it just be the red marker lights, not the orange line lights as well?
The kneeling system was implemented because wheelchair-bound passengers can roll off the train before kneeling when the train is somewhat raised to allow them to exit with ease. When the train kneels, wheelchair-bound passengers can roll onto the train in much the same way, using gravity to their advantage. I've heard that the 7000 series have alignment sensors to detect the exact platform level and align to it, which would eliminate the problem of some platforms that are very much higher or lower than most others on the system.
@@rileycoyote4924 that makes sense, but I’m wondering why they didn’t just build the trains with a floor height that was just a couple inches lower than the previous stock so that it matched the platform height at stations. That way the trains wouldn’t need to kneel at all and it would be more like other rail systems where the trains’ floor height is at the same height as the platform. It just seems like an extra mechanical system that will require maintenance and will break over time.
@@OliversElevators Every platform is different as far as height. Some platforms are uneven. There is no way to design a train with a "perfect" floor to platform level.

They’re probably never going to be able to get rid of the kneeling feature on new stock until they re-level all the platforms. Now you need to get New York to get trains that kneel so they don’t have such a vertical platform gap.
That light defect is what we were worried about having only 2 lights to run markers on instead of 8. Why CTA even uses red for route designators is head scratching.

@@kevinwilliams2643 I’ve been listening to squeal on the L for 40 years and riding them daily for 16. NO train squeals that badly on straight track pulling into these stations until these new trains hit the rails.
I wonder if the blue color on the front of the car (once in service)?will designate blue line, and cars assigned to red, brown, green etc lines will have front ends painted in colors of their lines. (I read they will be assigned first to brown, orange and blue).If it’s just for decoration, would prefer classic CTA mercury green or the later dark green. Whatever, They look great
CTA will not waste money repainting cars according to what line they'll be assigned to. That's why LED colored signs exist. CTA has used the color blue on their rail and bus vehicles for years now. It gives the train a very modern look.
Also, CTA corporate colors are mostly blue so it makes sense to have that on the front. Plus it pops out to the eye. This is not 1960. There is no need for green and orange anymore.
A major difference between CTA and other transit systems is that all of its rail cars/lines are pretty much universal; all cars can fit everywhere within the system. CTA will more than likely not spend money to repaint every single rail car that has to be reassigned to another line.

Not to mention, CTA uses top contact third rail with the shoes hanging down from the trucks as opposed to the usual side contact which means the weight of the car in Chicago probably presses down on the scraper slightly. Not sure if this is why, but it makes the most sense.
@@blue9multimediagroup the MBTA Orange and Red Line cars have there third rail ice scrappers next to the third rail shoe which rides on top of the third rail the only cars on the MBTA that does not have third rail ice scrappers is the Blue Line the third rail is in a tunnel from Airport Station to Wonderland Station is over head 600 volt wire
Can you explain in what ways the interior is outdated? I have pictures of the interior and I can tell you it's as modern as the R211s that are coming to your city.

All the American trains seem to be like that. Sometimes I keep asking, why can't they make the design so much more Modern? The Siemens metro in Warsaw looks nice, the trains in Paris look amazing! Even Montreal has better looking trains and their trains are about a few years old. Not the Mr-73s but the other newer ones I just can't think of the type right now. But I still love trains.

You probably didn't read the description. The reason why it's squeaks is the scraper on the 3rd rail.

That's a question that can't be answered until CTA finishes testing the 7000s.

You do know that switch lines on a regular? Some lines share equipment so having them painted in a line color would be out of place on other lines.

I love these cars, but it would've been perfect if the cars had the fronts all colored to their specific lines instead of all being Blue!

That's normal. Have you never heard brakes screech before? Look at New York's trains and how they stop when they come into a station.
Not to mention, as stated in the description, the squealing is mostly sleet scrapers meant to knock ice off the rails.
I drove for the MBTA Blue Line trains and the ice scrapers never made that sound

This is the Chicago L. What more do you expect? It's called modernizing but keeping the traditional design of an L car.
