That is a beautiful boat, especially as a living space. Widebeams are certainly a hell of a lot more liveable looking than narrowboats (from afar anyway). And you can have a dog or cat. You can travel at whatever pace you want and park it and go elsewhere too. In town and country. So cosy!
@@followtheboat I agree with that. The difference is on Esper you went to interesting place that I have no interest in seeing my self. Where as we have been to the UK a couple times, and the idea of exploring the canals has been something we are interested in doing. So either way you are a resource to us.
Congratulations on the new boat! I hope it serves you well. It'll be well suited for some very different water-based adventures than we've all grown used to seeing.
You look so happy and she really is a lovely boat. The extra width really will give you so many options when you arrange the interior. Don’t worry about the soot stains, you are canal boaters now and it comes with the job!
Haha, we've swapped sand everywhere for soot everywhere! Loving the life so far (after three days 😄). There are a LOT of similarities to yacht-life. It's good to be back on the water, but we need to be out of the marina as soon as... missing the peripatetic lifestyle. Cheers! 🙏 Liz x
I’ve thought about unsubscribing when you sold your boat, but now you’ve unexpectedly peaked my interest again. I’m looking forward to you describing a whole new way of life. Thanks for your work.
Well that's certainly a change, to say the least. There comes a time when one lifestyle finishes and another begins. No better or worse just different. I hope she is all you want her to be. Good fortune with your new adventures.
Congratulations on your new vessel and the start of your newest adventure. I shall certainly miss your sailing videos but look forward to seeing your canal trips.
@@followtheboat Thank you. I have also watched a number of episodes from the Cruising the Cut channel. Between you and him, I am thinking of taking a vacation in the U.K. and renting a narrow boat. Congratulations again!
Thanks! So far, we're absolutely loving it and wondering why we didn't make the change sooner. Don't get me wrong, we loved Esper and the Tropics, but we were ready for something new. Liz x
You guys were the first TH-cam channel I ever watched and subscribed to. I gave up for a while after we sold our sailboat. It was a wee bit painful to live vicariously. We are thrilled with your new purchase. What a beauty. Wishing your happiness, good cheer, cold beer and good health. Exciting stuff!
Looks lovely, light and spacious. Living in a Victorian house I know how nice it is having a fire to keep you warm. Turns the winters into something to look forward to rather than dread. You'll have a great time on this boat.
She's lovely, well done, I'm sure you will enjoy a slightly slower pace of life. When you get a pooch he or she is going to love curling up infront of the log burner after a frosty winter walk
This is an awesome home and a fantastic alternative to ocean sailing. I am sure you have made the right decision, plus after so many years roaming the planet, there is a time to “come home”. I cannot wait to see future videos of your new life on Britain’s canals👍
Congratulations, she's a beautiful new home and Liz the beaming smile on your face says it all. We look forward to following your journey and especially look forward to meeting the dog, whenever it joins you 🐾
Congratulations to you two and your new home. Can’t wait to follow to two through the canals. Love the fire place . And it looks so homey and comfortable. Cheers you two. 🍻🍻🍻

Hey Susanne. We moved in today (just after recording this) and she already looks lived in! We'll have some footage of the 10,000 boxes blocking our exits soon!
Excellent news! I wish you a beautiful and excellent adventure in your new life project! Many people will discover how beautiful the UK is! Thanks for sharing.
@@followtheboat I don't know the UK like my own hand, but the little I've seen I can only say: BEAUTIFUL! In fact, my English teacher, who was English and born in Portugal, used to say that the beauty of the UK was almost always hidden by clouds and fog! That England was so powerful that it had Mother Nature protecting it! She'd even inherited the English humour... She also used to say: ‘First we have London, then the colonies!’. She was really spectacular, driving an old Mini in Portugal, and of course with the steering wheel on the right! Ps. as long as she entered the classroom, only English was spoken! And she also taught Portuguese, and in Portuguese lessons she only spoke Portuguese, as she was born in Portugal, so she was an excellent Portuguese teacher too!
Great plan to get a wide beam/Dutch barge. I looked at canal boats ages ago and was amazed by how many people go for narrowboats when the mileage of canals you can’t access in a wide beam didn’t make the lack of width of a narrowboat worth it IMHO. And obviously it will be much better on rivers etc than a narrow boat. Can so tell you have lived on a sailing boat for a long time. People moving from a house would be saying: ‘it’s a bit small but we can do it’. For you it’s so much space you don’t know what to do with it all. Beautiful boat. Looking forward to your future films.
I am so happy for both of you; still on a boat, still on the water, and closer to family as I know that Jamie's parents are aging so getting to them if need be will be much quicker but hopefully you don't need to. Again excited for both of you and can't wait to see the trips around the canals with the cities and country side of your country. I think that it will be fun despite the elbow grease you will need to put into her in order to get her working, I mean the boat NOT Liz LOL
So happy you’ve found your next home on the water. Coincidentally I was watching one of my favorite episodes of “Great Canal Journeys” with Timothy West and Prunella Scales, who are long time canal lovers, traveling the Grand Union canal from Brentford to Limehouse “The London Ring” which I’m sure you will try in the future. Funnily enough I used to live in Northfields, just a stones throw from their start point, small world eh? If I wasn’t content living on land here in Thailand the idea of narrowboating, or wideboating in the UK would be very appealing, and anyway I couldn’t afford to buy a house there! So from Moon and I, congrats and good wishes, with Moon saying “no sails, no big waves, no hidden reefs or sandbars, no storms and dragging anchors, no raising and lowering dingy to go shopping, what a great way to live on a boat”. PS hope you kept all your UK power plugs. Cheers Mac and Moon.
Dear Mac and Moon, so nice to hear from you. I think Moon hits the nail on the head there, pretty much all the practical motivations of making the move to the enclosed canals versus the open seas. We may not have the weather but we do have the seasons. Looking forward to seeing daffodils for the first time in two decades!
So happy for you both! That's our other dream!! A canal boat! No worry about bad weather just love living on the water. ❤❤❤ Congratulations 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

CONGRATULATIONS to you both, FANTASTIC! I am so happy for you! I think you will have loads of fun and exciting times on your new boat! So glad you will be on the canal system in the UK and maybe some offshore use with you new Widebeam . So exciting!
A big change for you both. It was obviously the right choice because you both seem very happy and eager to get on with it. I am looking forward to watching your new episodes. 😊
Happy Days may the Fonz be with you. Narrow boats mirror the space and storage concerns of monohull sailing vessels. So glad you went with the wide berth. It looks so spacious and seems a much better proposition for living aboard. I hope your maintenance and damage repair time is much reduced and you can use that time to enjoy floating through the changing vistas. All the best and enjoy.
Yes, you could equate a wide-beam to a catamaran (equally ridiculed by narrowboaters, the monohull equivalent). TBH we were looking for a narrowboat, but circumstances threw us a great opportunity to buy Happidaze, so we took it. Perfectamundo. 😄Liz
So the Valium Express has a side hatch so you can serve cups of tea and sandwiches to passing boats. So much space as I was when I moved in to my apartment after living on the yacht for a couple of years. I did like the cathedral window midships to let in lots of light on those dim winter days. Yes the dodger looks like a stroller so when under it will you pull on a knitted head covering like a 5 year old? Great to see your both happy little vegemites. I look forward to catching up some time in June.
