Rest well to my uncle Melvin 'Mel' London. He was truly an unsung song writer and producer of this time who worked with Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Junior Wells, etc. at Chess records. My uncle later recorded on his own label, Chief records. He never received his true just due...but many know one of his most famous work: "Mannish Boy" which has been recorded and re-recorded by multiple greats as well as used in commercials and in movies throughout the years. Thank you for your contribution to music history 'Unc'🎶🎵🎼🎵🎶🎵🎼
A lot of the blues singers were and still is the originals. Elvis Presley didn't create hound dog. Big Mama Thornton created that sound. Give honor to whom honor is due
❤ Surely , this was One of My Mother's favorite Musical memories, Thanks for preserving these memories ❤ A VOICE IN THE MALL ❤ California Love to All ❤❤❤
THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU TUBE FOR THIS GREAT DOCUMENTARY I LOVE IT! I LOVE IT IN 2019! CHI TOWN IN THE HOUSE CHICAGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
from Wikipedia: "The diddley bow is a single-stringed American instrument which influenced the development of the blues sound. It consists of a single string of baling wire tensioned between two nails on a board over a glass bottle, which is used both as a bridge and as a means to magnify the instrument's sound."
If The BBC wants to make some money ,they ought to release the rights to their mysic documentaries to Blu ray & Dvd.. So the people who live outside of Britian can both watch & buy them
I've watched TONS of videos about the birth, history, and evolution of Rock & Roll, "Rock", Country, Blues, R&B, Folk, etc., and I never knew that Muddy Waters and Chess started the whole format of guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard!! At least according to Little Steven Van Zandt. Yes? No? Agree?Disagree? 😶
did these black artists get their proper royalties or were they robbed like so many others. what about their families today are they still eating off the records put out?

*Watching This AFTER Watchin Cadillac Records Is JUST GREAT & REALLY INFORMAL 👍🏾*
#LaughWithLorenzo that’s exactly why I’m here lol.
The Chess Records documentary should be watched before watching Cadillac Records
Howlin Wolf is my favorite blues singer of all time.

Elvis did a cover of a Las Vegas club act's rendition of Hound Dog
Give some cudos to Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller who wrote the song for Big Mama
What got started at Chess records : Chicago Blues / R&B /Rock & Roll / Soul
It's spelled BLUES
@@Robert-d3y1f 👍🏾
Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley, Billy Stewart, Little Milton, Etta James & Howling Wolf made Chess Records!
Don’t forget Little Walter
And Willie Dixon...
Muddy Waters is the only musician to have a street named after him
Only in Chicago

1955 is the most universally instrumental year for modern music imo
This was wonderful, what a great documentary
If it wasn't for innovators like Muddy Waters and Leonard Chess we'd probably be listening to Disco Polka music on the Radio.
Not that there'd be anything wrong with disco polka music...
@@ajcarr1965 There wouldn't be any Disco music at all
Very good documentary
Gosh I love history. Alllll sorts. It's just so fascinating. This music history is so deep and thrilling... ❤❤❤
Bo Diddley was that Man..
Anyone know the music playing at 6:05?
Yes.

I would like to cite this for a paper. Could I have the director, and place where this was produced.

Everybody is talking about SUN, nobody about CHESS...
Or Motown Records ,Cameo Parkway ,Swan Records, King Records etc
CAME HERE AFTER WATCHING CADILLAC RECORDS ..
Watch this documentary before you watch Cadillac records
The son sounds kind of bothered. His descriptions and overall retelling is very biased. Sounds like his Father wasn’t like that.
Just saw on Bounce

Maybe after Leonard was gone, but no they were treated well;) The money, cars, and instruments! Oh yeah! They we’re havin an good ol time!;)
No They did not, Led Zepplin got sued for Copyright infringment
We're these black artists adults, meaning over 18? If anyone screwed them, it's their faults.
Chuck D is oblivious to the fact that The Little Walter song " Boom Boom ( Out Goes The Light) is a sex song
Perhaps Chess saw with his own eyes that Black ppl are people
Damn they still had slaves in the 50's. Smh. Wow.
That was only down in the deep South
