I don’t see any differences with ironing before cutting. The fur-like fabrics we usually use for making plush toys would shed when cutting. I usually pull the fur off of the cut edges and shake the pieces over a trash can. Or using lint rollers and small vacuum to clean the mess.

I usually use it to apply to applique fabric, then transfer it to the main fabric, so the applique pieces will not move around while I stitch them to the mail fabric later. Actually, you could pin or glue the pieces in place instead. If fusible web (adhesive is much stronger) is used instead of the iron-on adhesive paper, the applique pieces could be fused to the main fabric without more stitching. Hope this is what you are asking for.
