I randomly saw this video this morning (thank you YT-algorithm), and this afternoon the movement-point functions that you pointed out here literally have saved me an hour or more of tedious work, and will continue to do so going forwards too - THANK YOU!

Amazing tip..that little gizmo is always getting dragged around and we had no idea why it was even there...and...we never bothered to ask in the forums. Now you have tamed our insanity because we don't have to draw lines for alignment anymore. Love these skill builder tips. Keep them coming!

The way the hand obscures the Gizmo really is fun to watch - BUT IT WORKS - and that's important. So much time saved do to this video! Thanks Aaron!

Really handy tip. I've always jumped into each viewport to move them around. This saves a ton of extra work!

This was great, I use layout a lot to do shop drawings for theater sets and quality layout tips are the hardest to find. Thanks, Aaron and keep them coming.

Brilliant!! I love it. Thank you so much, that was an additional thing to what I was searching for (my inferencing and using the shift key to maintain a straight line doesn't seem to be working, I think I'm doing something wrong, so I'll search that next) but this will be very helpful in aligning things!! (And I always wondered what that annoying little thing I kept grabbing by mistake was, lol)

I interpenetrated "Precision Movement" differently. As to line up two Groups and combine them. What I do is: a) Set group1 where I want it over group2. b) Copy group1. c) Open group2 to edit it. d) Do a "Past in Place". Now group1 is part of group2 and exactly where I want it. e) Exit the group2. f) Delete group1.
Another trick I do is: a) Open a group. b) draw a 100mm line in it (that I don't need). c) Measure that line. d) NOW, change that line length. Which will resize that (only) group. Do this to make a part the correct size to fit other parts of the model.

So THAT is what that dohickey is for! Thanks for pointing it out, it will be most useful.

Thanks Aaron, this is a really helpful tip. It would be great to hear more about drawing more precisely in Layout. Things I struggle with are using inferences generally (not as consistent and accurate as Sketchup currently) and rotating objects. I can't find a way to accurately rotate non right angle objects to align with other objects; the widget handle always sticks out arbitrarily at 90 degrees whatever the orientation of the object being controlled. Is there a way of re-defining the handle angle before starting a rotation action?

I have another "gizmo" question, and I'll ask it with a real workflow issue. I've created an electrical symbol library in SU, which I've saved as a scrapbook folder. Is it possible to set the "gizmo" point within each symbol so it's not necessarily in the center? For instance, when I locate switches or receptacles, I'd rather the "gizmo" be on an edge or endpoint of my symbol so I can quickly drop them on a wall edge. Thanks for a reply!

The manual placement is useful however if you had an alignment tool that allows you to select the first object (any line) then select your second object (any line) And the second selection would align with the first selection it would be extremely helpful as well. Similarly to “other” 3D software.
Keep in mind I’m a SketchUp 1st Revit 2nd user but it is a simple task in R. Helminator….

Using sound effect as snap indicator is good idea but maybe using a visual effect might be a less noisy if we have a lot of snapping points,
    Thanks Aaron

    Hello Aaron,
    Thanks again for this vids,
I may be the king of the dumbies but
    > How do you move like precisely 1 inch to the right ? (So far I create a stick 1 inch long, select my object to move, drag the handle to the start point of the line created, andthen the object so that the gizmo snaps to the end of the line..... Endless process....😭)

... a sound effect optionally when refering to a reference point - not a bad idea actually Aaron!
(are there are also guidelines in the layout?)

Gool stuff. They could make the gizmo 200% larger, and once it's moved, keep it on that place...
