As someone who has tried free to play games out of sheer curiosity I have to agree. The reason I tried them is because I was suspicious and sure enough they normally end up being pay to win. Either keep it as pay once and play like they do with most consul games now or say Guild of wars 2 on the PC for example. Or keep the subscription but just don't delete the account if they miss a payment. Freeze it until they can afford it again.
Well, if we want this to not happen, we MUST support Nintendo. They are a company first and foremost and right now they're kinda hurting. ... And the WiiU isn't actually a bad system. Hell, it's actually pretty damn good if you ask me. Sure, it's not a "Hardcore gamer" system but really, has anyone ever truly believed that Nintendo was a company that catered specifically to the "Hardcore gamer?"
The problem with free-to-play is that it corrupts the design of a game. The goal is no longer to make a fun game. It is to make a game that will attempt to get you to spend money. Usually, those games become tedious and require lots of grinding so that you won't burn through the content too fast if don't want to pay. You can't have too much fun without paying. Suddenly, decisions tyou take in the game are influenced by real world money instead of simple game design rules of what is fun. It is a model that is not compatible with all genres. I'd rather pay upfront for a full game that is designed to be fun.
Something that goes right along with this news story I think you may all be amused by venturebeat.com/2014/02/26/only-0-15-of-mobile-gamers-account-for-50-percent-of-all-in-game-revenue-exclusive/
Sure its unethical and i hope to god it doesn't work but to be fair its an idea that WILL make money. Think about it, most people who use their mobile as their main gaming device are probably casual players, the fact that the mobile market is littered with "Pay 2 Progress" games clearly shows people who game on their mobile are, to more or less of an extent, tolerable of such business practice. If Flappy bird got popular you think this wont? I agree that its immoral sure. But by god will this make a shit ton of money if it does fly.
Didn't Iwata say that they weren't going to go Moble at all during the last conference meeting? (the same one that he reviled the date MK8 comes out) Or was that in one of the older conferences?
yea it's really sane to depend on NO 3RD PARTY SUPPORT. so when big AAA titles are getting multiplatform releases. You'll still be depending on Mario and Zelda to get you by
***** Read my comment again. Nintendo are one of the few existing game *developers* with their sanity intact. I didn't say anything about them as a console manufacturer.
***** Well, they actually had a good amount of 3rd Party Support all ready for the first one-and-a-half year of the Wii U lifetime. Most of these thirdies just bailed out right after the launch (some say they want to deal revenge for having strict restrictions back in the NES-day. Might be true, it's a known fact that many 3rd Publishers are driven by ego, not by the concept of making good games to generate a profit and customer loyality). And while they may be depending on Mario and Zelda and such for their consoles... You make it sound like they have only bad or average franchises. Granted, not everything is a masterpiece, but they have a generally high hit-rate with their games where other companies struggle to get a good sequel out. That and even their average games have a tendency to be called "decent" instead of being called "Meh...", which is the difference between "This is a bit of a downer, but it's still nice" and "the franchise just became forgettable".
The mindset of these people is what pisses me off the most. "Wow, this new Mario/Nintendo game looks shit, stupid ass kiddy games. I will be here enjoying my movie games that are setting the standard backwards" Then the new Nintendo game becomes a hit and enjoyed by those that played it. "What the hell man, the game looks fun but I don't want to waste money on a Nintendo machine to play Nintendo games. Just put them on my shitty ass console and cellphone please." These same people piss me off, they talk shit about Nintendo games but want to play Nintendo games on their phone or other console that ins't Nintendo.
Jesus Marte Where did he say Wii U? I'm pretty sure he said "cancelling Wii online", moron. And i agree with him. Autistic fanboys only back them up because they're nintendo. They'll NEVER make another game like majora's mask because they're too caught up in creating fucking gimmics and games that have the same graphic style. (the 100 mario games that are already on the wii u) On a side note: i'm happy that wii u owners at least get pikmin 3, that game looks very much worth it.
I DIED at the end! Superman shoots a load in your face, and Jack Black just comes in and says while your head is flying off, "DECAPATATIOOOOOOON!" Hahaha, fuckin' awesome. And for anyone who doesn't know where that line from Jack Black comes from, play Brutal Legend. Badass fucking game right there.
A button...2 bucks A button...another 2 bucks Oh, you wanna run and jump that long gap....4 bucks. Oh, you're outta money? Well, Goomba's gonna own ya. Fuck it. I'm playing my NES.
The princess is in another castle... but she could be in this castle if you pay for her trip. "CLICK HERE TO BE A HERO AND PAY FOR HER TRIP!" "click here to be a cheap ass and try to find her in another castle"
Yet again showing that you're one of the few youtubers that speak nothing but the truth and make valid points that developers and producers really should take on board. Preach it man! Great job again!
There's a game called DLC quest. It parodies today's DLC and in app purchases. It's quite funny what you have to pay for. (You pay with coins you get in game, so after the initial purchase, you get everything,)
Nintendo is soo far out there when it comes to common sense, BUT even Nintendo themselves will be like "What? are you high? Do you want to piss people off?" I swear, can't believe gaming was a hobby back then...
"Thank you Mario, but our princess is in another castle!... And the castle costs 0,99... And the four levels leading to it cost 1,20 each... And the enemies cost 0,05... And the powerups..." WTF
the main problem with most investors in ANY video game company is this: they don't play games, they don't know what consumers really want and enjoy and especially what pisses them off! i don't think it would be a fatal move to add such pay features to mobile games, but it definately won't make for good plublicity ...
On an amusing side note, when went to type 'investors' that first time in caps, my finger missed the 'v', hitting the 'c' instead, turning the word into 'incestors', lmao! Just about right in my book. XD
I believe in Nintendo's Conference this year, they stated they won't do anything with mobiles. Am I right? or almost right? Also, if Nintendo does go mobile, then they would be competing against their own Successful Nintendo 3DS.
Mario to jump higher, that's Luigi's job! "I don't wanna hear the Luigi jump higher" sorry bout that x) wrote the comment before I had watched the hole movie ^^ (edited)
If I was going to pay money for something for a Mario game, then I would pay for new levels, new characters, or minigames. I would NOT pay to jump higher. I don't know who this "investor" is, but he is clearly not thinking for the benefit of Nintendo.
So we can get Mario to jump higher by paying...... HA! I don't think so. No ones going to do that. We all know Mario can jump high enough as he is. Also whoever came up with the idea of Micro-transactions, is a dick.
The original idea was probably quite innocent "We're releasing a game for free, ad-revenue won't pay for it well, why not add cosmetics that you can buy to not only support us, but show off your purchase with unique looking armor and weapons!" And then some big company picked that up and went "Oh, well these guys made it cosmetic so it's still fair... nah! if you pay us you can get everything done if twelve seconds!"
Isn't that pretty much what they did with the new Dungeon Keeper game? =P Though you had the option of waiting for a day or a week or so avoid having to pay for it.
As an investor in some companies I have seen the sheer stupidity investors say on some message boards sometimes about how the company should change something. I mean short term this idea may work but it would piss off an awful lot of fans losing money in the long term.
Thing is the short term for an idea like this would be insanely short, as in weeks if that. Long term would be well them damn near having to close up shop due to fans leaving left and right if they applied this to everything of theirs. Luckily they're a smart company
Yeah if he is a long term investor then that idea makes no sense but if it is from the perspective of a day trader then all they are seeing is quick money in the company where they can just get out as soon as they can to make a quick buck off of.
I really miss the late 80's and all of 90's gaming.. With all this dumb DLC bullshit, it has definitely turned me off to this generation of games. I actually unhooked my PS3/ PS4 and have my Sega Genesis, NES & SNES hooked up. If they want to play that game, I'll just stop buying shit all together and play my old carts that they have no way to charge me an extra dime to play.
Dingohnter Old school gaming all day man. Back when games had to be actually be finished when they were released. None of these Day 1 patches and DLC atrocities that have become commonplace today.
I doubt this will happen. Have people seen how stingy Nintendo is with putting their games on mobile platforms beside their own? This will never happen.
For the people that are blaming nintendo PLEASE ACTUALLY READ THE TITLE FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE! its not nintendo. Its the investors. Nintendo does make a lot of mistakes BUT we can forget the great stuff they did for us as well. Nintendo is no where near this stupid to do something like this. Not even Iwata would accept this.
Iwata would never do this. No one is that stupid. If you have to pay to get power-ups earlier, it wouldn't be as huge as a deal, but to JUMP higher? That's too low and money-hungry.
Nintendo has actually had a very good track record with keeping DLC bullshit in check. I can only recall Super Luigi U as being a pretty wierd DLC-ike thingy that they made.
AlluMan96 NSLU was a far more difficult version of New Super Mario Bros. U with different levels and gameplay for $20. Not too bad compared to DLC I've seen before
***** Over here that has a bit of a catch though. You say 20$, I say 40€. While most major releases are kept to the traditional 60€, budget titles seem to always jack up in prices. Because of this, I couldn't buy Deadpool when it first came out since while others were buying it for less than usual, I was stuck having to pay the full retail of 60€.
Alpha, I have to say that this intro song is by far my favorite :) sounds more gamer-y. And well, hopefully nintendo is in the right state of mind and told him to sit the fuck down or get the fuck out! Another great video as usual
AlphaOmegaSin: the voice of millions of real gamers worldwide. If I see an in-app purchase in a mobile game i hit DELETE right away. If it appears on Nintendo games guess what?? Poof no more Nintendo for me.
i love this guy!! a.o.s always hits the nail on the head. i used to be a pretty serious gamer but the way things have been changing and the way they are continuing to change little by little has almost completely put me off. no big loss though, i'm happier now that i've stopped buying new stuff. there's a whole back catalogue of games that i have to catch up on that are just as good if not better.
Nintendo better not support this idea...I love the Super Mario Franchise & I grew up with the series, but there's no way in hell I'm paying them to do something that I've been doing in Mario games for 13 years! That's like saying, "Hey let's make gamers pay Link to swing his sword faster."
Going mobile wouldn't be a bad iidea....if it weren't for the charging the gamer for in-game mechanics and micro-transactions that's stupid. This investor needs to get his head out of his ass and look at the real world of gaming.
Microtransactions is one of the things that is really causing gaming to go downhill. What happening to days of unlocking costumes, power ups, weapons, etc by doing tasks ingame? Worst part is some gamers are supporting this shit.
At the end of the day I always watch your videos and it makes me feel great man, keep up the awesome job, putting smiles on my face one video and a time!
Wow he said that 5 out of 500 people would pay the 99 cents to jump higher so it is a 1:100 ratio. The ratio of dislikes to likes is about 1:100 so he was dead on!
Yep. That same 1 out of a 100 will also flame people for speaking out against pre-orders and day one DLC. They're rich enough to be idiots, I suppose. Don't understand how they get rich in the first place though.
It's one thing to skim a video description, but how do you miss details that are right in the title? An invester wants Nintendo to do this, not the company itself.
Or Nintendo investors wanting you to pay to make Link swing his sword? Or making you pay to have Samus shoot her beam cannon? Oh crap! I better shut up now before some one gets bad ideas!
Indeed. Like Roy and Mewtwo. Tho I know they weren't free. They are good DLC. And Pokemon Rumble World. They updated it with a patch to add a new stage, to make it so you could catch pokemon you may not of seen. Good DLC. Free.
+Ҩᴜᴇᴇɴ Mewtwo wasn't good DLC. The issue with him was fixed before his paid release, but he was released earlier to people who had both versions of the game. If you got Mewtwo that way, there was a chance that your save file could get corrupted from using him in certain modes.
This is why investors should not have any say in video games. I can almost promise that the vast majority of these investors have never played a game in their life.
***** Only til you're about to make contact then they ask if you would like to pay for that extra facepalm. If you say no then it just sorta hover hands in front of your face or some shit 0_o
People still argue about whether or not video games are art. I don't believe there is much of an argument that they are not art that is left. However, if investors get to butcher games and cut corners, and money is the priority, I don't think it a an expression of emotion and communication anymore, and I'm not so sure if it's art anymore.
App games that are essentially "free" to play, but then suddenly during gameplay keeps asking you for money, has really become an issue for me. Tetris Blitz for example, super fun and an interesting take on a legendary classic, but if you wanna buy upgrades and "weapons" to make it more interesting, 40DKK each ($7)...WTF. Gold Rush, which is also a very fun on-rails game, okay they want additional Money for every extra stage you wanna play, and since the game itself is free I can live with that- sorta, but if you wanna unlock extra characters you have to pay too, why, because the amounts of in-game gold that is required to unlock ONE character, far exceeds what you are EVER going to accumulate by just playing the game regularly. So if you want those characters, the only way to get that much gold without having to play for a month straight till your fingers bleed, is to cough of the cash. And need I mention Sonic Dash? Where upgrades are ALSO so immensely costly that you pretty much have to pay real money to ever get close to the amount of Red Rings required?
Yo, if you're interested in getting Nintendo to do shit for their consumers, check out shokio, he's doing a thing to spam miiverse with as many people as possible at once, so Nintendo notices what people want, and gives them it. It's worked before, so he's just gathering troops and deciding on what to ask for and crap. If you own a Wii U, I'd recommend checking it out if you want it to be less shit tier. Later.
Just imagine the tech support Nintendo lady:hello You:Hello there is something wrong with my game Nintendo lady:Yes You:Mario won't jump high enough to.. Nintendo lady:€20 You:*Poker face*
Couldn't have said it better myself brother. Much respect to you. You don't mince words and you call it like you see it. I gave you a shoutout in my latest video.
Who else misses the days when video games or even websites/tech in general where about making the best you can for the gamer playing. Actually making the best gaming experience you could, putting work and effort into making masterpieces of art for the ages. Nowa days *everything* seems to be about how can we squeeze every last penny we can and fuck the customer, they're irrelevant. Exactly how did we allow people like this into a position where they can make decisions? Its crap like this that blew the aspect of copyrights and health + safety in society completely out of proportion =(
It's sad. I miss the days that games were released as feature-complete as possible. The business practices of this industry are manipulated by greed and consumers accepting mediocrity.
Two things Nintendo does not need to do. They do not need to go into the mobile market. They're dominating the handheld market. They make great games on the go and they are doing well with it. The second thing is that they do not need to be doing any Micro transactions for any of their games. Nintendo is known for great quality and solid game play. Why would they ruin that with something as loathsome as micro transactions. It will be a sad sad dark day in gaming history when Nintendo turns into EA.
Nintendo hardware and games sell because they are QUALITY!! Going mobile would lower quality, which would bring everything down. Shareholders stop playing game developer, ESPECIALLY with the worlds best game developers. I agree with everything said in this video
These corporations are becoming increasingly detrimental to the gaming industry.
The day the free-to-play model and its questionable practices invade Nintendo franchises will be the day gaming dies.
I'd rather pay upfront for a full game that is designed to be fun.
yep pay-to-win games blow
Well... it’s five years later and Dr. Mario just happened.
"I'm sorry but the princess is in another castle. ...But for $5.99, I can take you to where she is! Would you like to pay now?"
Then they ask if you wanna pay for fireworks after you you hit the flagpole
+AlphaOmegaSin hi!
+graphicsgod PAY 99 cents to swing the master sword
or you want to fight the gym leader that's going to cost you $6.99.
You wanna catch that Pokemon? $10.00 for a Poke ball, not a great ball, ultra ball, or even master ball. A run of the mill red and white Poke ball.
4:14 "I'm sorry Mario but the princess is in another castle..

I keep replaying this part haha X'D

And to lay bombs!!
XD I about died seeing that shit. I was sad, amused, stunned, then sad again seeing people say that legitimately lol

Don't you mean Bob-bombs? Plus, these people need to be gun down by Banzai Bills because I think some may be involved with EA.
Nah, for the morph ball and each time when using it is .99 a sec 83
microtransaction to make zelda a girl
I would pay to make Mario send me a pre-recorded message that I could use to order pizzas with in his voice

Dingohnter Old school gaming all day man. Back when games had to be actually be finished when they were released. None of these Day 1 patches and DLC atrocities that have become commonplace today.
I remember when I actually unlocked stuff at one point, now they just ask me to pay for it....and never give an option to unlock it otherwise.
id pay .99 cents to hear you rant every day.
Next micro transaction, you have to pay to move your character.
AlluMan96
NSLU was a far more difficult version of New Super Mario Bros. U with different levels and gameplay for $20. Not too bad compared to DLC I've seen before
*****
Over here that has a bit of a catch though.
If Nintendo does this im 100% done with any of there products.
Second
I really doubt Nintendo would do this stupid crap.
Fourth
AlphaOmegaSin: the voice of millions of real gamers worldwide.
If I see an in-app purchase in a mobile game i hit DELETE right away. If it appears on Nintendo games guess what?? Poof no more Nintendo for me.
What happened to the gaming industry
They figured out it was a thriving business and want to make as much money as possible at the expense of everything but themselves
i love this guy!! a.o.s always hits the nail on the head. i used to be a pretty serious gamer but the way things have been changing and the way they are continuing to change little by little has almost completely put me off. no big loss though, i'm happier now that i've stopped buying new stuff. there's a whole back catalogue of games that i have to catch up on that are just as good if not better.
Nintendo's Response:
hahahaha....Get out....
Congrats on 200k subscribers Alpha. Your Rage has paid off lol.
Pay to jump higher? Isn't that why we have Luigi?
Nintendo better not support this idea...I love the Super Mario Franchise & I grew up with the series, but there's no way in hell I'm paying them to do something that I've been doing in Mario games for 13 years! That's like saying, "Hey let's make gamers pay Link to swing his sword faster."
Going mobile wouldn't be a bad iidea....if it weren't for the charging the gamer for in-game mechanics and micro-transactions that's stupid. This investor needs to get his head out of his ass and look at the real world of gaming.
"Fuck it to oblivion"
I'm SO using that!
Out of Ammo you say? 5$ and we will reload your clip for you *evil grin*
REALLY NINTENDO REALLY
We robots have more ideas: Each fireball is a penny a piece. Also, each time you collect a coin you owe Nintendo 5 grand. Sound good, human?
$9.99¢ to use the stick in Jekyll and Hyde
9:30, AOS becomes AVGN with the comparisons.
I hope Nintendo DON'T agree with this idea and REJECT it.
Nintendo most likely will not but since Iwata is in charge, who knows what dumb decisions they will make.
jonn mace That's good.
I like this opening song. It's better than the other one, suits more to the style of the channel.
I can see it now... a dozen PokeBalls for $1.99 or individually $.49. -_-''
$20 bucks per Master ball
AlphaOmegaSin Each event Pokemon costs $7.
I imagine superman flying around and stuff and some guy comes out of nowhere and says that'll be $2.00 for flying.
Don't understand how they get rich in the first place though.
holy shit the megaman analogy totally resonated with me, subbed.......... again!
It's one thing to skim a video description, but how do you miss details that are right in the title? An invester wants Nintendo to do this, not the company itself.
Musical chairs with landmines, funniest shit ive heard in awhile. I literally spit out some of my monster wen i heard that lol
What's next? Sega's Investers want you to pay more for Sonic to run faster?
Or Nintendo investors wanting you to pay to make Link swing his sword? Or making you pay to have Samus shoot her beam cannon? Oh crap! I better shut up now before some one gets bad ideas!
I bought a Cooking Mama app on the App Store for $1; ever recipe cost a $1 to make. Fuck that shit!
DLC is good when it's free.
+Ҩᴜᴇᴇɴ also more of a cosmetics or optional content that doesn't ruin the game on both gameplay and pre-existing content.
Indeed. Like Roy and Mewtwo.
Tho I know they weren't free. They are good DLC.
And Pokemon Rumble World. They updated it with a patch to add a new stage, to make it so you could catch pokemon you may not of seen. Good DLC. Free.
Ҩᴜᴇᴇɴ TF2 is one of the good example of f2p game with excellent microtransaction which is optional and doesn't give the player unfair advantages.
EmperorFaiz Never played Team Fortress 2. So I wouldn't know.
+Ҩᴜᴇᴇɴ
Mewtwo wasn't good DLC. The issue with him was fixed before his paid release, but he was released earlier to people who had both versions of the game. If you got Mewtwo that way, there was a chance that your save file could get corrupted from using him in certain modes.
Worst, that guy owns 0.76% of entire Nintendo's stocks.
No. NO. STAY AWAY from Nintendo11!1!
So an EA employee walks into Nintendo HQ...........
Now you know why Nintendo is trying to buy back all it's stock.
When I buy a game I expect to make one purchase and that's when I buy it not several other purchases just to play what I had already bought.
Haha I love this dudes rants I learn something ridiculous that a company is doing and I'm entertained
This is why investors should not have any say in video games. I can almost promise that the vast majority of these investors have never played a game in their life.
I did a double facepalm when I saw that title.
Be careful the investors want extra for the second facepalm
AlphaOmegaSin Fuck... but they said it was FREE D:
***** Only til you're about to make contact then they ask if you would like to pay for that extra facepalm. If you say no then it just sorta hover hands in front of your face or some shit 0_o
People still argue about whether or not video games are art. I don't believe there is much of an argument that they are not art that is left. However, if investors get to butcher games and cut corners, and money is the priority, I don't think it a an expression of emotion and communication anymore, and I'm not so sure if it's art anymore.
Money money money
must be bloody funny...
I'm sure he'd like to charge gamers for every pot Link breaks too!
Mobile gaming, everybody.
Later.
Just imagine the tech support
Nintendo lady:hello
You:Hello there is something wrong with my game
Nintendo lady:Yes
You:Mario won't jump high enough to..
Nintendo lady:€20
You:*Poker face*
Next, their gonna have gamers pay to make sonic go faster.
Oh Hell No Fuck That Shit
My exact feelings.
Yep
No Undertaker In Sonic Boom Is Faster Since He Rides His Motorcycle
They are! that was a joke!
It will be a sad sad dark day in gaming history when Nintendo turns into EA.
kill this idea NOW!!!!!
If anything, Toad would say " Sorry Mario, but the princess is in the in-cart DLC".
Do we really need more mobile games? There is 1000 made a day basically and the market is a nightmare i say stay away til they can get it in order
Nintendo hardware and games sell because they are QUALITY!! Going mobile would lower quality, which would bring everything down. Shareholders stop playing game developer, ESPECIALLY with the worlds best game developers. I agree with everything said in this video
